"What are you... What are you doing here?" May asked, confusedly.
Mike didn't want to beat around the bush so he just went straight to the point. "I needed to talk to you, that's why I came here."
"Talk to me? You barely even know me, and I do not entertain strangers, so please leave." May wanted to close the door, but Mike blocked it with his leg, preventing her from closing it.
"What do you think you're doing?" She asked in annoyance.
"Please, just let me talk to you for a second, and I promise I'll be on my way." Mike pleaded, but May wasn't having any of it. He already seems like a creepy person to her, and that's the kind of person she would never want to entertain in her life, only God knows what would happen to her if she doesn't chase him away now, and to make matters worse, Anthony isn't home.
"I already said I don't want to talk to you, so please leave me alone." She tried forcing the door shut, but Mike still wouldn't let her, and her strength was in no way compared to his. "I swear I'll scream if you don't leave me alone right now!" She threatened.
"I really mean no harm, all I want to do is talk." Mike pleaded, still preventing her from closing the door.
"What could you possibly want to talk to me about? You don't even know me!"
"I just want to ask you some questions, so please hear me out. I promise not to bother you again."
May stopped struggling to stare into his eyes, and all she could see was sincerity. Anthony already warned her to stay away from him, and she knew he would be so angry for what she's about to do.
"What the hell are you doing May?" She mentally questioned herself. She badly wants to chase him away, and not listen to anything he has to say, but there's something about him that keeps getting to her, and she can't even explain the feeling. She wants to believe he's a creepy guy, but the longer she stared at him, the more she believes that maybe he's not that kind of guy because she could tell from his eyes that he's a pure soul.
"God! I hope I don't regret this." She thought to herself.
"Why should I let you in? How do I know you're not a killer or a rapist or someone who harvest people's organs?"
Mike badly wants to burst into laughter but he managed to control himself. "Do I seem like that kind of a person to you?" He asked.
"You're sure I can trust you?"
"Yes, I promise you can trust me. It's just a few questions and I'll be on my way." Mike promised.
"Fine, come in then." May opened the door a bit wider, then she stepped aside to let him in.
When she closed the door, she rushed to the storage room and grabbed a shovel. As she returned, Mike's eyes widened in surprise. "You're not serious, are you?" he asked, his tone laced with amusement.
May shrugged, her grip on the shovel tightening. "Prevention is better than cure. Don't try anything stupid." She raised the shovel, its tip pointing menacingly at Mike.
Mike chuckled softly, his eyes never leaving the shovel. "I won't."
May gestured to the living room. "Let's sit." She led him to the couch, offering him a seat before sitting opposite him. Her expression turned stern. "I won't be offering you a drink. Let's get this over with."
As she spoke, May's eyes narrowed, her jaw clenched in determination. She was acutely aware of the shovel's weight on her knees, a silent warning to Mike. Inside, she hoped her tough exterior was convincing enough. She prayed Mike wouldn't see the faint tremble in her hands or the fear lurking behind her eyes.
"So...what questions do you want to ask me?"
Mike's gaze lingered on her, his eyes searching for any hint of familiarity. The resemblance was uncanny, and he struggled to reconcile his emotions. His hands twitched with the urge to reach out and touch her, to hug her tightly and cry on her shoulder. The ache of missing his late girlfriend, May, felt like a fresh wound.
He took a deep breath, reminding himself that this woman wasn't May. She looked like her, but she wasn't the same person. Mike's eyes stung as he fought to compose himself. He couldn't afford to let his emotions cloud his judgment. Not now, when he needed to understand what was happening.
"Hey, are you okay?" May asked, her voice laced with concern.
Mike sniffed, his eyes welling up. "Yes, I am...I'm sorry." He apologized, his voice shaking slightly. He cleared his throat, attempting to regain his composure.
May's eyes narrowed. "Why do you always look at me like that?" she asked, her curiosity evident.
Mike's brow furrowed, his eyes squinting slightly. "Like what?"
May's eyes locked onto Mike's, her gaze intense. "Like you're longing for something," she said, her voice soft and gentle. "Like you're in so much pain." Mike's expression faltered, and he looked away, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for an escape.
May's words struck a chord, and Mike felt his emotions simmering just below the surface. "I'm sorry," Mike muttered, his voice strained. "It's just...you look so much like someone I used to know." May's eyes filled with compassion, and she leaned forward, her voice filled with empathy.
"Who was she?" May asked, her question hanging in the air like a challenge. Mike's eyes snapped back to hers, and for a moment, they just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable.
May's expression softened, and she sat back, her voice gentle. "It's okay if you don't want to talk about it, Mike. Really, it's fine. Maybe we should just...get on with what you came here for, and then you can leave?" May suggested, her tone kind and understanding.
Mike felt a wave of gratitude wash over him. He didn't feel like talking about his past, about May, about the pain that still lingered. He just wanted to get this over with and leave. "Yeah, that's probably for the best," Mike agreed, his voice still rough with emotion.
"So, what's the question?" She sighed.
"It's...I want to ask if there's a possibility that you have a twin sister." Mike's eyes locked onto hers, searching for any hint of confirmation.
May's expression was skeptical. "No, I don't. I do have a younger sister, though."
Mike's face fell, his shoulders slumping in defeat. "A...are you sure?" He asked, his voice laced with desperation.
May's eyes softened, and she leaned forward. "Yes, Mike. My parents only gave birth to two children, and that's me and my younger sister."
May's words hung in the air, and Mike's gaze dropped, his eyes fixed on the floor. May's expression was filled with compassion as she spoke.
"Is this about me looking like the person you know?" She asked, her voice gentle and understanding.
"It's..." Mike trailed as he didn't even know what to say. He suddenly felt like a fool. "It's nothing, nevermind." He immediately stood up, and May followed suit.
"I'm really sorry to have bothered you in the first place. I'll just leave." He said and left before May had the chance to say anything else to him.
May watched as Mike hastily retreated, feeling a pang of concern. She hadn't expected him to react like that. For a moment, she considered chasing after him, but something held her back.
As she stood there, frozen in indecision, the door closed behind Mike, leaving May alone with her thoughts. She couldn't shake the feeling that she had just witnessed something more profound than a simple mistaken identity.
May sat in the living room, watching a movie, but her mind wasn't even focused on the movie because she couldn't stop thinking about Mike. Although she already told herself not to bother about him, and that there's also a huge chance that she might never get to see him again, but that's not even helping as she still find it difficult to get him out of her head."Focus, May. Focus!" She tapped her cheek, then she tried to focus on the movie she was watching. She suddenly heard the door being opened and soon Anthony walked in. May immediately stood up to welcome him."Hey, you're back." She said with a smile. "How was work?" "It was okay." Anthony replied, equally smiling. He's so stressed out from work, but seeing May was more than enough to make his stress go away. "I hope you weren't too bored being alone."May shook her head. "Not really. In fact I..." She trailed off when she remembered that Anthony had warned her to stay away from Mike. Only God knows what he'll do if she dares t
As Mike pushed open the door, the bell above it rang out, announcing his arrival. His eyes swept the store, locking onto May as she browsed through the racks, her fingers trailing over the fabrics. Anthony stood beside her, his eyes scanning the store, oblivious to Mike's presence.Mike's heart skipped a beat as he froze, his feet rooted to the spot. He felt a rush of uncertainty, unsure of how to proceed. Should he approach them, or slip away unnoticed? The air seemed to thicken around him, heavy with anticipation, as he struggled to make a decision.Mike was still thinking of what to do when May suddenly turned and saw him. Mike's eyes widened when their gazes locked, and he instantly rushed out of the boutique."Er...I'll be back, just gimme a sec." May said to Anthony before rushing off, going after Mike.Luckily for her, Mike was still outside when she got there."Hey." She called, and Mike turned to face her. "It's you again." She smiled at him. "What brings you here? Don't tell
"He just annoys me so damn much, Adams." Mike complained bitterly. "I had to fight the urge to punch him right there."Adams looked at his friend and shook his head. "You seem to have too much time on your hands, Mike. You've recently taken over your parents company, and you should be working, not drinking at a bar and sleeping there, also fighting because of a woman, remember she's not May." Adams stated calmly."And who said I wasn't working? I'm really trying my best Adams, but it hasn't been easy, it's way different from when I was working with you. And I wasn't fighting anyone because of a woman." Mike defended."You only worked with me so as to gain experience and prepare yourself for this moment. It's not going to be easy, but I'm sure you've got this, and I'm always here to help you if you need anything." "Yeah, I know that." Mike replied, giving Adams a small thankful smile."So, with that said, I think you should focus on the company and leave that woman and her boyfriend a
Mike's car pulled up in front of Anthony's apartment, and Mike didn't waste any time in getting out of the car. Mike hastily came out as well.May was about going in, but Mike rushed to block her path. "I literally just saved your life but you won't even tell me goodnight before leaving." He shook his head in disappointment.May rolled her eyes hard at his words. "I already thanked you for saving me, now I have to tell you goodnight as well?""Yes." Mike replied.May scoffed. "That's too bad. I don't want you to have a goodnight, not when you're hell bent on ruining my friendship with Anthony!" She fumed."Oh, come on. Don't tell me you're still mad about that. I was only doing you a favor." Mike defended."I don't need your favor, Mike. I don't need anything from you, so please stop doing things that's only going to annoy me okay? A huge frown instantly appeared on Anthony's face, and he balled his fists in rage, the event of last night flashing through his mind, fueling his anger even more.Mike only smirked when he saw the expression on Anthony's face, he didn't say anything to either of them, rather he simply walked into the cafe."I should take a break from work today." Anthony said."Anthony! You're doing too much. I thought we both agreed that we're going to ignore him. You're not taking any break from work so you better start going or you'll be late. Anthony's hands stilled on the mop handle as an urgent knock echoed through his home. He hastily set aside his cleaning equipment and took a moment to survey the tidy room, nodding in satisfaction. With a deep breath, he hurried to the door and flung it open."May." Relief washed over him as he enveloped her in a warm hug, holding her close as if his life depended on it.May's composure crumbled, and she sobbed uncontrollably into Anthony's chest. He held her tight, his voice a soothing balm. "You're safe now, May. I've got you." He lovingly pats her hair, while constantly reassuring her that she was safe and no harm will come to her anymore. When May finally managed to calm down, he guided her inside, settling her onto the couch with a gentle nudge. "I'll get you some food and water. You're safe here."As he busied himself in the kitchen, May's whispered mantra drifted through the air: "I'm safe... no one can hurt me..." But her trembling belied her words. No matter what she says to
"Do you know me?" May asked with a confused expression, her voice bringing Mike out of his reverie."I'm sorry, what?" The man's face turned beet red with rage as he thundered, "Where is she!? Where could she have gone to!?" His eyes bulged, and the veins on his neck pulsed menacingly. He snatched a nearby wooden object and hurled it at the bodyguard standing before him. The object crashed into the guard's forehead, sending him stumbling backward as blood gushed from the gash. The guard's face contorted in pain, but he dared not show any expression, fearing his boss's wrath. "W-we'll find her, Sir," he stammered, his entire body trembling like a leaf in a hurricane. "I-I promise we'll find her."The man's expression twisted into a malevolent sneer. "You'd better find her," he spat, his voice dripping with malice. "Otherwise, I promise to make you suffer a fate worse than death. You'll watch as I destroy everything you hold dear. Your family will beg for mercy, but it will be too late. You'll be the one who'll be left to pick up the pieces of your shattered life."The guard's eyes widened in terror as
