Kaliya's pov
____________ "Please let me come with you, I never go anywhere""And that is for a reason Kaliya," my father said. I can tell from the sound of his voice that he was so done with this conversation but dismissing me was one thing he couldn't do.
"But you and Uncle Kato would be there, I shall be well protected" This was my trump card, I just hoped I was playing it well. My father cared for nothing aside from my safety.
My mother died early but before she did I had been taught and tutored on what I was, and my importance to the Kingdom. I understood why he was so skeptical about letting me attend my cousin's wedding but that was probably the only fun thing that would ever come my way and I was not ready to pass on the opportunity.
"Come on father, where else better to protect me from than your sight? Please let me go, Lumi needs me there too," I said looking for more sad things to utter.
My father was a strict man and had rules for
everything, but he loved me and he loved Lumi. We both knew how happy my presence would make her, I didn't need to say much cause I knew he was considering it. To add the final spice I turned around and began to walk away looking sad, I didn't get to the door before I heard him call my name, and I paused with a smile on my face."You must remember the rules Kaliya, rules are what keeps.."
"Us safe, I never forget the rules," I said, as if content with my reply he nodded his head.
"We leave in thirty minutes," he said and I gleefully ran to my room to get changed. I already packed a day before but my father didn't need to know that.
The ride to Uncle Kato's mansion was not far, it was where the wedding preparation was to take place. Again in my burka, a clothing made specifically for me, covering every inch of my body except my eyes, I had to always wear socks and gloves when going outside of the castle - one of my father's rules, one I have never objected to because it was what was best to avoid men from looking at me.
"Remember to speak to nobody except your cousin, and me," My father said for the fourth time since we got on the road.
"Yes Father" I answered. His decisions were final to me, he was the greatest alpha of our pack, and he alone made it what it was today, he had never been out of sorts.
"You made it!" I heard a girly shriek before I felt the carriage come to a halt, my cousin was looking at me with tears in her eyes. I hastily got out and jumped into her arms which I shouldn't have, another rule from my father was never to be out of manners in the open. I met his gaze and I bowed my head in shame, waiting for the lecture.
"Thank you for letting her come, Uncle," Lumi said to my father, luckily that eased the air and I quickly held onto her as we walked towards the mansion.
"That was a quick save," I said to Lumi who chuckled and directed me straight to her room.
"Rules are there for a reason and if you can't follow rules then you have no business outside," she said mimicking my father and we both chuckled.
"Your impressions are getting better, have you seen him?" I asked immediately we sat down.
"Oh, I have to close the door first," Lumi said and I immediately shunned myself, if my father had heard that I was asking about a man, I would have been on the first carriage back home.
"It's as if you don't like being here," she said and I clearly understood what she meant, but then I could not help it, I wanted to know how she felt about all of these things.
"Are you happy you're getting married?" I asked with a lower voice this time.
"Yes, I am excited even, this is what I've been trained my whole life for, the only future I know, and it's finally here of course I am happy," she said and I giggled.
We were more like sisters, there was a great amount of trust between us, we never fought or argued and when we agreed on something it was final, I could tell she was happy and it made me happy."I have so many preparations to do personally that I don't even know where to start"
"I can help you out with something " I volunteered and she chuckled.
"That's not necessary, you just sit still and gossip with me while I do them," she said and I smiled, she was still the same even though I had grown, she was older than me but never acted like it until it got to times where she needed help, she was always fine on her own.
"Okay then, I need to just take this off and get ready to..."
"Get out!" I heard Lumi scream and I stopped what I was doing,
"What happened?"
"Sorry, the guard came in when you were taking off your face cover"
"Oh, thank you," I said putting it back on, as she ran to lock the door. Breathing was a bit difficult in it but it was better on than off.
"Anyways I heard the Southerners will arrive soon, some are around but since I have never seen him before I can't tell if he's one of them," she said I listened closely, not sure how I was to react but I smiled.
"I also heard he's the king"
"Oooh royalty, that's double amazing," I said, I was happy for Lumi even though she had no idea what life was going to be like for her there I was happy still. Was I?
Kaliya's Pov _____________Midnight came, but we were still not asleep. It was overwhelming, the stress Lumi had to face for a wedding. I was extremely glad I was part of this process, I wasn't going to experience it anyway, so why not soak in the moment? The first minute I tried closing my eyes to get some sleep in Lumi's room, the door opened and she squealed. "You need to see this" She dropped a dress on the bed. "You are going to be my bridesmaid."I sat up, looking at the dress beside me. "You know that is not possible. I have to stay with father all through the wedding.""No one else can take your place, Kaliya and you don't have to do much. You only have to stay beside me" she said, not waiting for me to say anything, she started to tear the wrap of the dress. "It's a burqa dress specifically made for you, no skin, all covered.""It's beautiful," I muttered, my hand brushing the fabric of the dress. Indeed no one else dressed in a burqa like me, so if I rejected Lumi's offer,
Cody's pov _____ "Every darn body here looks like they got a stick up their ass, what's with the freaking glares, it should be their happiest day," I said in a whisper to my friend Lou, we had sat down for like ten seconds and the glances we had gotten were provocative."Well if it's true what they say about the North then that stick is far up their asses than we thought" Lou spat out."And what fine asses they are" Clinton, another friend that I had sent to the North earlier before I came eyeballed one of the workers who was hurriedly cleaning the ornaments by the aisle."I agree," Lou said licking his lips, I knew I never should have agreed to them coming along but I needed close people around in case a shit storm tried to happen."How do you think your queen-to-be is gonna look like?" Clinton asked."Bet she's gon have a hole that deep in for days" "Shut the fuck up Lou," I said shunning him. "That is my wife-to-be you're talking about," I said with a smirk on my face. I didn't
Cody's Pov ___________"Let us have a word, now!" Akkar uttered, trying to sound authoritative in front of his people but all I could see were his dilated pupils which appeared troubled and that soothed my heart. He then whispered something to the other man and led the way. I followed him, not because I was a puppet, but letting him remain in his reverie. Let the others think he was in charge today, I would give him that privilege.Far behind the wedding aisle, Akkar took me to a room and the instant he shut the door, my hands gripped his throat, till his old cranky skin started to redden. "Coward!" I spat on his face. "I see that the North has been doing better than I expected, how do you thank me for that?" He could not speak because I wouldn't let him, I strangled him further till it looked like his eyeballs were going to pop out from his socket. "You sought my help only to play tricks?"His claws dug into my skin causing me to retract from his neck, and he growled at me. "What d
