Chapter five

Rayna/Aya

Six years later

"Welcome to New York," the automated voice announced from the airport speakers.

I took one deep breath and smiled. Welcome indeed. Once upon a time this city had destroyed me, but now, I was going to use this city to destroy others.

My phone began to buzz and I picked the call, pressing the device to my ear, "Yes?"

"Ma'am," the soft voice of my assistant began, "Welcome to New York. I've sent the driver to pick you and he should be in a black Mercedes right outside. I couldn't join him because there was a problem with your new house and I had to be on site to handle it."

"It's fine, Sera," I told her, "I don't need you shadowing me twenty four hours of the day. I'll see you when I get there."

With that I hung up and made my way out of the airport building, my five inch Manolo Blahnik heels clicking against the tiled floor.

Several heads turned as I walked by and I smiled, amused. My presence was always sure to cause a stir. With my waist length onyx hair, designer pant suit and mirrored Ray Bans.

I immediately spotted the Mercedes and climbed into the back seat.

"Make a stop to pick up some lunch," I told the driver, "And wine."

"Who the hell are you?" A cold voice asked from my side, causing a squeak to tear out of my mouth.

I snapped my head to the side, wondering how I had missed the presence of the man seated beside me.

I blinked at him, taking in his steel grey eyes, high cheekbones, dark brown hair, broad shoulders and black designer three piece suit. He was the most gorgeous man I had ever seen in my life.

Shaking my head to snap my mind from thoughts of what the intruding stranger would look like under the layers of cloth, I gave him my coldest stare, "What are you doing in my car? I'll give you three seconds to state your business and be on your way."

"Uh, ma'am_" the driver began, looking nervous.

The man held up his hand to silence the driver, "First of all, you're the one in my car, second It's very obvious my father sent you, so I'm going to give you two seconds to get out before I throw you out."

I raised a brow. Who did this asshole think he was? He was probably one of those misogynistic jerks who thought all women were somehow beneath him. Despite his expensive appearance, I could bet that I was worth ten of him.

"If you're so desperate for a ride, you can just ask for one," I snapped, "But you've missed your chance to receive any help from me. Get out."

"Ma'am_" the driver started again, and this time I held my hand up at him as my phone began to buzz.

"Yes?" I barked into the phone at my assistant.

"The driver says he hasn't seen you yet. Is there a problem, ma'am?"

It suddenly dawned on me that I was really in the wrong vehicle. I hung up the call.

"Ma'am, this vehicle isn't yours. I think there's been a mistake," the driver blurted out.

I glared at him, "Thanks for telling me about twenty minutes too late."

Ignoring the two men, I climbed out of the car, refusing to feel embarrassed even as i felt my cheeks heat up. I knew there was a reason I hated this city. Just a few minutes back and I was already annoyed.

I eventually find the correct vehicle and climb into it. My phone rings for the third time.

"Hello," I bit out.

"Ma'am, I'm afraid there won't be anytime for you to get back to the house. The meeting has been shifted to four pm which is just ten minutes from now."

With a growl of frustration I hung up and tapped the drivers shoulder, "Take me to The Hall office building, now."

The car made a sharp turn and I settled into the leather seats, feeling my heart thud. It was time to begin my revenge. A revenge that had been six years in the making.

A smile played on my mouth as I stepped out of the Mercedes and stared up at the The Hall headquarters building.

Jared Winehall, here I come.

I marched into the building and straight to the elevator which whisked me to the top floor. I knew I was already late and it served my purposes perfectly. I was the guest of honour after all.

"Excuse me," i beckoned at the receptionist at the desk right in front of the elevator, "I have a meeting with Winehall right now. Can you direct me to the correct office?"

"Of course," the red haired woman smiled politely at me, "It's just down that hall. The second door down."

"Thank you."

My breathing was relaxed and my heart beat was even as I stepped closer and closer to the man who had abused me. A man who had left endless scars on my skin.

I opened the glass door and walked into the room, coming to a screeching halt at the sight of a tall, imposing figure standing by the window, broad back to me.

"I must be in the wrong office," I said, "Can you please direct me to where I'm supposed to be meeting with Jared Winehall."

The man turned slowly and my breath caught in my throat as grey orbs clashed with mine. His eyes narrowed at me.

"You. What are you doing here?"

"I can ask you the same thing," I snapped.

"I'm here for a meeting with the CEO of Phoenix inc."

My eyes widened, "I'm the CEO of Phoenix inc. I'm supposed to be meeting with Mr. Winehall."

His jaw clenched, "You are looking at him. I'm Zane Winehall and I'll be representing my father," he held out his hand.

I couldn't breathe. How was this Adonis related to that slimy bastard?

"Aya Jacobs," I placed my smaller hand in his. The spark of electricity that shot up my hand at that brief contact had me tearing my hand away, heart pounding.

He looked as shell shocked as I was and I reminded myself that he was as much the enemy as his father was.

After all, the apple doesn't fall far from the three. My vengeance would continue as planned, and Zane would go down with his father.

My name is Aya Jacobs and I'm the machete of Justice on all who wronged me. I won't stop till they're all six feet under.
