-EMILY-

I sat by the side of the hospital bed; the sight of my mother breathing through oxygen tubes made my heart sink. She had survived the horrible scene along with my father, but her body couldn't take in the advent repulse of energy.

"Are you ready to talk?" His deep voice rang in my ears as I rose from the stainless steel chair. I had been sitting there for days, no food and no sleep, but I felt nothing but an awestruck feeling, which made me gloomy.

"I have just twenty minutes; make it worth my while." His lips curled into a smile, his eyes hidden behind the shadows of the cloak.

"Thanks for saving us back there and also helping my mom get out of the hospital. The doctors said she would have died if not for your urgent response." I went on my knees, tears in my eyes.

"Is that all?" His voice resonated in the room.

I said nothing, staring at his lips, which were barely covered by the wraps of dreads swaying down from his head. His sinister aura still weighed me down, my whole body crumbling with each word that came out of his mouth.

"My name's Emily." I stretched my hand forth, hoping he would accept it.

"Damian." He grunted, his hands clenched like he was fighting something deep inside him.

"Are you okay?"

A chuckle emanated from his lips, his fingers now playing on his laps. He remained silent, his jaw sitting in one position.

"Miss Emily." The doctor's feminine voice crawled in. The door creaked open, her feminine bodice emerging from the other side.

"Yes!" I did a quick check on him, but he wasn't there anymore. Not a trace of him remained, not even his scent.

"Your mom has been stabilized; you can return home now with your father." The doctor said, a smile plastered on her face. Her aura didn't smell like confidence, which made me calm down a bit.

I motioned towards Dad, his gaze directly on me. His eyes were bloodshot like he had been crying for days. Was it because of Mom or because he had begun to feel strange about the sudden burst of power I had shown? I couldn't understand.

After one last check on Mom, Dad rushed me into the car. He drove down the road with speed, not caring about the speed limits. I didn't bother saying a word knowing he would either reply with a typical "okay" or his favorite word to close a conversation, "not now.".

Upon getting home, he parked the car properly in the garage, shutting it permanently with the new silver casting door he had bought. He walked me in, still maintaining the silence.

"Dad, is Mom going to be alright?" I asked.

"Your mom is strong; she will be okay." He held up a smile.

He was worried, trying to hide the truth with his smile. I could see through it but didn't want to trouble him any further. With a sigh, I retired to my bedroom.

It had never occurred to me that monsters really existed. Our history teacher had taught us all about ancient mythology, but we had trampled on her words, calling it a superstition. She always responded with a smile, watching us joke around with whatever she thought.

Had she known?

Night fell, and the sound of the roaring wind crawled into my ears. I opened my eyes, rolling lazily off the bed. The room was dark, but I could see perfectly like it was day.

"Emily…" a masculine voice reached out to me.

I searched the room with my eyes, the sight of a black-covered book coursing through. I could remember the book from the hospital desk but I hadn’t brought it home. How did it get here?

The book looked disheveled, big, and had a strange inscription on it. I didn't remember buying such a book, nor had I seen it in Dad's hands.

"Emily…" The sound came once more and I panicked, hitting my hand on the window. The window shattered, fragments of it piercing through my skin.

"Arghh!"

"Emily! Emily!" Dad's footsteps echoed in my ears as he ran up the stairs. I tried walking but ended up falling onto the bed as the pain clutched.

My hand found its way to the black book the mysterious man had left, the words revealing itself as I stared at it "Lamia". I wondered what the words meant, but I couldn't look them up at such a time.

The moonlight found its way to the bed through the open window, illuminating directly on the book.

"Emily, are you alright?" Dad's deep voice came once again as he pulled the door open. I lifted my gaze, staring at the horrified look on his face.

"Dad." Tears flowed down my eyes as the pain gathered around my back. Fragments of the glass had come in contact with a vital part of my limb, leaving me paralyzed on the bed.

"Get away from the book, Emily." He said.

The book was glowing, a red light emanating from the inscriptions. A part of the book had a drawing, a crucifix in the middle, which the illuminated ray concentrated on.

"Emily, we have to leave." Dad grabbed my hand, beads of sweat settling on his face. His heart was beating faster than the average person’s, his eyes reflecting the red light from the book.

"I can't stand." I cried.

"Not now," he reached for my back, pulling the fragments out of my vitals. I screamed, hitting the book continuously as I rolled with the immense pain.

"Stand up, Emily…" The voice whispered into my ears.

My eyes felt hot, tears streaming down as I shook off the remaining fragments. My body moved on its own, scrambling off the bed like a child late for school.

"It's time to leave, Emily." Dad yelled, heading for the door first.

"Open the book, Emily."

My hands began to move, reaching for the book. I tried to stop myself, but I couldn't; the force was much stronger than I could handle.

"Emily, don't!" He grabbed me, pulling me towards himself. I didn't budge, my hand inches away from the book.

"Emily." He yelled, his face stern. I wish I could tell him that I couldn't stop myself, but my mouth had been sealed and my body taken over.

"What's happening?" The door flew open, the nurse who my had been assigned to take care of my father stormed in. She was devastated, clutching her chest like she had met with the devil himself.

"Grab a cloth, stop the light." She yelled, her hands moving towards her neck. "Do it now."

Dad searched the room, searching for a piece of clothing enough to cover the book. "Dammit, where do you keep the sheets?" He cursed in frustration.

"Mike, hurry up." The lady cried out as she strangled herself.

"It's too late." Dad muttered.

I had opened the book, the silver pages flipping as the wind in the room grew stronger. Dad grabbed the nurse, throwing her out of the room alongside himself.

"Well-done, Emily, you have accomplished your mission." A sinister scent emerged, a wicked laugh echoing across the room.

The once blue sky was now a mixture of black and white with the moon reflecting its radiant image. Wails filled the air as a ray of light fell from the sky, hitting a mountain on the other side of town.

I groaned, wincing as my hand was scorched by the flaming book. The pages settled, words in red appearing on the pages. "Strigoi, Nosferatu, Jiangshi…"

Suddenly black smoke emits from the words, a figure emanating from the black smoke.

"I'm finally free, free from the clutches of the chronicles. It's time to claim the world once and for all and create a New Dawn under my rule." The voice chuckled.

"What's happening?" I shuddered, the sinister aura cloaking the smoke.

"The King of the Vampire has arrived."
