Miguel's POV

“That's going to be very hard to cover,” Mason mumbled as we watched the plume of smoke danced into the sky.

I didn't care one bit. I felt the satisfaction hit and that was all that mattered.

Now it was unto the next hit.

Mason sighed heavily next to me as he turned to me. “Did you really have to set him on fire?” he asked, and I met his gaze.

His face contorted into a scowl as he glared at me, clearly displeased with my actions, and I was enraged at his reaction.

Did I really have to set him on fire? The question rang through my head, and I couldn't believe that he just asked me that.

My anger stirred inside me like a storm.

“Are you questioning me?” I flickered my brow, facing him.

I could feel the tension crackling in the air between us, and my rage was building up. I could already foresee where this conversation was heading, and I didn't like it one bit.

No one dared question my authority. No one! Never!

“I'm not, Don Miguel. I'm just worried that you're being a l

Ava's POVThe monitors hummed in the background, and I could hear it but so faintly. The bleached white that enveloped everything in sight was blinding, but I wouldn't call it harsh or anything of that sort. It was cool, relaxing, and beautiful, like nothing I had ever seen. The cloud was clear, and the sun looked more beautiful than I had ever seen it. Everything was more beautiful and elegant. I closed my eyes feeling the breeze sweep over me. It was perfect. I felt at peace here, unlike the world where I had come from. My heart felt at ease instead of the constant turbulence that haunted me as usual. Peace was a feeling I hadn't felt in a really long time, but now I could feel it holding me together, and the best part of all this was them —my parents and my aunt. They were all here. They were all before me, and it felt amazing to have them with me. My mom wrapped her arms around me, squeezing me in a long hug that seemed to penetrate every inch of my body. It felt great. I felt h

Ava's POVI forced myself to my feet, grabbing onto all that I could for support as I dragged my feet to the door. I lingered for a minute, leaning into the wall and trying to catch my breath before limping out of the room into the busy corridor where people rushed to and fro.I guessed whatever was happening was really a big deal if it could have everyone on their toes like this.I got to the small reception on the floor I was on and I saw the news.Fernando.This was all him, and I couldn't deny that I felt responsible for all this. I had invited Fernando into my life, and perhaps if I hadn't done that, all this would have never happened.Tears streamed down my face as I shuffled through the dimly lit corridor, determined to save everyone. I would never let anyone die.Every step felt like a weight dragging me down while others hastened down the corridor with urgency. They were all so busy trying to save themselves that no one cared to look at me. Nor noticed that a patient was ou

  • Auctioned To My Mafia Lord   Chapter 141: Goodbye Mama

Ava's POV Perez took me to the ground floor, and the minute Gracie saw me, she ran to me, “Ava, you're awake,” she grinned, but there was something sad about her smile, and with the situation of things, it was pretty normal. “I am,” I kissed her forehead, and my eyes darted to my angel, which she carried in her arms. Gracie offered her to me, and I took her, spraying her with kisses as my eyes filled with tears for what might very well be the last time I'd ever hold my baby in my arms. I tried to hold myself together, but I failed as my tears helped themselves. I pressed Mary Grace close to my chest and kissed her forehead before bringing my lips to her ear. “I love you,” I muttered, breaking into a full-blown sob, “M-mommy loves you so much.” My voice thinned as I squeezed her in my arms, “I will never forget you.” Final separation had to be the hardest thing a mother could ever be subjected to do. It was more painful than any pain I have ever felt in my life. My heart tore ap

  • Auctioned To My Mafia Lord   Chapter 142: The Sound of Pain

Miguel's POV The patients, doctors, and nurses burst out of the building, all of them running for fear of what was to come at any moment now. I turned to Mason, “Have you heard anything from Perez yet?” “No. The last I heard of him was when he requested that we wait because Nando might be provoked to blow up the place if we went barging in.” “Is that so?” I clenched my jaw. That prick was causing more trouble than he was worth, and I was enraged. “Yes, but there's another way in. I got the blueprint of the hospital right here. There is a tunnel under the hospital, and we can use that to work our way in, and get them out.” “Sounds good to me. Let's go,” I said, and the minute we took a few steps all that hope was immediately sucked away. Boom! The hospital went up in flames and my heart leaped out of my chest as I watched the fire swallow up the building before my eyes. The force of the explosion pushed me to the ground. No, it wasn't that. It was the thought of them —Ava, Mar

Ava's POVI woke up on the cold ground, and my senses were immediately flooded by the overpowering aroma of decay and neglect that filled the air. A stench that woke me up fast.I flicked my eyes open to the sunlit room, taking in my surroundings as I got into a seating position. The room was a complete mess, dusty and…well like I thought, messy. It was like being inside a trash bag —Only this was bigger.Empty bottles littered the floor with crumpled papers and discarded clothing scattered about in disarray.Breathing was hard labor, and I would have given anything not to breathe right now. Everything was disgusting, and I could feel a puke crawling up my throat, but I swallowed it.Yet the single thought that I had slept among this trash made my skin crawl even more.“I see you're finally awake,” his voice echoed through the room, and my eyes shot to the entrance where he stood, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest.Fernando.His eyes fixed on me, blazing wi

Miguel's POVThe car arrived at the largest private hospital in the city a while later, and I took Mary Grace from Gracie’s arms as I headed inside the building. She was now asleep, and she looked so at peace. I held her tightly in my arms as I walked, keeping my eyes on her at all times. I couldn't help it.When the nurse had said it, I put it off as normal concern but the whole ride I had been worrying about her like crazy, and now that she was finally in my arms, I couldn't help but notice that her temperature was slightly off balance. She was a little too warm, or maybe I was overthinking it, which, in any case, couldn't be helped. My heart felt heavy, and not knowing what was really wrong with her was driving me crazy enough. There was something wrong with my little girl? The word twisted in my chest.I really hoped it wa

Miguel's POV My knees weakened. Every bit of this information sounded fishy. It was planned. It had to be because none of this made sense. I clenched my fist and the name of the culprit, easily came to mind. Nando. He must have done this. But something as dangerous as this? I was sure he didn't come up with the idea or do it alone. Li —fucking— No. That bastard son of a DiAngelo! Nando wasn't smart enough to pull this off, so this must have been Lino’s plan—that nutjob. He injected my daughter with the biohazard and set the ranch on fire. It was his fail-safe just in case I saved her and didn't die in the attempt. She was going to end up being the death of me either way. Lino. I clenched my teeth. Bastardo! My eyes flared. I needed to beat this, it was the only way he wouldn't win. “Please, doctor. You have to do something about it,” I grabbed his arm, “Please, you need to rid my daughter of the compound. I don't care how much it takes, I'll pay any price. Just find a cure,

Miguel's POVA few hours later, the result of the test came, and I was summoned to the doctor’s office. When I walked into his office, he had the report in his hands, and a look on his face that wasn't too promising. This couldn't be good.“Take a seat, Mr. Castell,” the doctor said, gesturing to the seat, and I shuffled across the room, and sat down.He flipped through the report in his hand and darted his gaze from the paper to me.“The result of your tests came back,” he paused, scratching his ear, “I have some bad news for you,” he said, and slid the result to me.I picked it up and glanced through the paper but I couldn't make sense of what I was looking at. It was all figures and medical jargon that I couldn't decipher.“What am I looking at here, doctor?” I asked after a minute, lowering the report to the table.“It's positive,” he clarified with a finger pointing at the result, “The biohazard was detected in all three of you. The result also indicates the level, and you have

Ava's POVIt had been a week since the Jet incident, and Mason's death. The cops had done their part with the investigation and had managed to connect the hospital explosion, and the van explosion together linking it to Lino. They had also traced some of his illegal businesses to Naples among other crimes and shut it down but since there was no one to punish that was all they could do.Angela, on the other hand, was arrested, and sentenced to ten years in prison for impersonation, fraud, and for being Fernando's accomplice which was a lot less than she deserved.Miguel and I had stuck around for the investigation, and I was pretty glad when it was finally over and done with. There was nothing more that I wanted in my life than to put the hellish past behind us and focus on the promise of the future.Whatever was in store for Miguel and me was something I was dying to see.The days after the incident at the Jet

Ava's POV Miguel was there, sleeping peacefully with Mary Grace cuddled into his side.My heart felt hurt and I wished for just one second I could turn back the hands of time —just to make myself worthy again. But all of those were just wishes.I couldn't risk another moment around them for fear of causing them more problems. It was clear that I was the secret ingredient for trouble. And for the people I loved to be safe, I had to be far from them.I scooped Mary Grace from her bed quietly not wanting to wake Miguel. I kissed her forehead, tears gathering in my eyes as I whispered. “I love you, sweetie, and I'll always be here. I'll always be watching you like a hawk but for now, mama has to go,” I pressed my lips to her head again, and again.“I'm going to miss you, darling, but don't worry you're in safe hands. Your dad will take good care of you,” I squeezed her in my arms and then finally laid her in the crib, not wanting to risk waking Miguel up by dropping her by his side as s

Ava's POV A gun rolled to the entrance of the cockpit and I only hesitated for a second before handing Mary Grace to Gracie. I knew what I had to do.I walked over to the door and picked it up as Lino stretched out his gun to Miguel. I stood behind them but none of them noticed my appearance in the room. The weapon was heavy but that didn't matter much. It was now or never, and I had to make a quick choice —a scary one but I didn't have much of a choice. I had never fired a gun in my life until this moment. But I had to do it, our lives depended on it.I focused my vision on him and the gun went off in my trembling hands.Lino's body dropped to the ground with a loud thud.If I had been just a second late he would have killed Miguel. I saved him. I saved the man I loved. Something about that numbed the guilt that came with taking a life. The gun slipped out of my hands to the ground as tears rolled down my face. Miguel's eyes met mine.I saw the worry etched on his features as I rush

Miguel's POVI raked a hand through my hair, listening to Perez fill me in about what happened at the hospital, and the men he had lost in the van explosion on their way here.Bastardo! My blood stirred.“Those were good men,” I mumbled, reeling in the loss as I ground my teeth and clenched my fist, “Lino. That scumbag,” I cursed, fuming inside.“I have everyone looking for him, and Mason. Perhaps he could lead us to him—”The sudden sound of the engine roaring to life echoed from behind us, and my head swirled to the Jet which was getting ready to take off. What the hell? I thought. Stunned.I creased a brow at the unbelievable sight before me. I could hardly believe it. I had no clue what was going on but that Jet was definitely not supposed to take off without an order from me.I couldn't understand it but Ava and my kids were in there, and that was all that mattered.Instantly, I sprinted towards the Jet, and Perez joined me as we raced to the aircraft. Ava's POVI bolted upright, my heart pounding against my chest as though it was trying to rip itself out of my body. I was anxious. No. More than that I felt unsettled and for no reason too. I just had this bad feeling in my gut that I couldn't quite shake. Something felt very wrong but I didn't know what it was.I sat up in bed, staring into the darkness with the only source of light being the moonlight spilling in through the window. The air in the room felt heavy, suffocating, as if laden with an ominous foreboding that I couldn't quite place, and the uneasiness tightened in the pit of my stomach. I suddenly felt stuffy and needed some air.I slipped out of bed and glanced over my baby’s crib to see if I had woken her. I hadn't. Mary Grace was still sound asleep.I sighed with relief and made my way to the door. I stumbled towards the door, but my heart jumped again as I heard the sudden sounds of hurried footsteps. My stomach tightened and I pushed the door open gently, peeking

  • Auctioned To My Mafia Lord   Chapter 154: Dead Man's Game

Miguel's POVLino was alive? That couldn't be.I had set the place on fire. I had watched it burn. It had to be a lie. Nando was definitely lying. I glanced at him, “You're lying,” I said.“I'm not!” He yelled with desperation in his voice and words, “I swear it. Mason is involved. I can prove it. Where is he?” I hesitated and turned to one of my men, “Where is Mason?” I asked, right in front of Nando. The man shook his head, “I haven't seen him all day. None of us have,” he responded. The words echoed in my head, and Nando's voice echoed beside me, “He knows... he knows you're onto him, and he's made a run for it.”Nando’s words made sense, and my mind was starting to churn with all sorts of thoughts. There had been something off about Mason since we caught Nando— maybe even since Lino.He hadn't come down to the cell for once, and I had barely seen him. It was almost like he had been hiding away all this time, and I just never really noticed.Everything was starting to align in my

Ava’s POVIt was midday, and Gracie helped me with a napkin to wipe the breast milk that spilled down Mary Grace’s clothes while I was breastfeeding her. I wiped it, cleaned her face too, before lowering my shirt.I pulled her to my chest and cradled my precious baby in my arms as I began to hum a gentle lullaby. Miguel’s favourite one and I hoped it would one day be her favourite one too.The melody flowed from my lips like a soothing river, wrapping us in its tender embrace like a blanket and its effect was tremendous on my baby. Mary Grace fell straight to sleep with her palm clutched tightly around my finger. I noticed she loved to do that, and I loved the feel of her palm around my finger. It was warm, and it made me feel a tremendous amount of peace. I rocked her back and forth, with the rhythm of the lullaby, and Gracie grinned beside me, wrapping one hand around my arm while caressing Mary Grace with the other, although she let her be the minute she was asleep so she wouldn't

Miguel’s POVI walked out of the underground cell, making my way up to the ground floor. Perez spun around the second I entered the room, “I was just coming to see you,” he said as he slid his phone in his pocket.“I spoke with the doctor, he will be here shortly,” He reported, and I regarded him with a nod. “How’s he holding up?”“He’s still a long way from hell but I'll make sure he gets there,” I replied. Perez smiled, “He's more than earned it,” he remarked, “Care for a drink?” he gestured, raising the bottle for a second before going on to pour himself a glass.“Sure. I haven't had one in a while,” I motioned towards him, taking notice of the room. “Where's Mason?” I asked after a minute of not spotting him anywhere around the room. “I’m not sure but he should be outside,” he said, and offered me a glass of scotch. I gulped it all at once and lowered the glass to the table.“Any lead for the antidote yet?” He asked.I shook my head, “Not yet,” I paused, “But I was thinking, per
