Chapter 6

“Alright, Christelle. I’ll see you at the courthouse in three days.”

I got out of the car with Lucas, while James tried to follow with teary eyes. However, Williams held him back.

“Mom, I’m sorry. Please don’t leave me.

“I won’t play games anymore. I don’t want those toys either. Mom, please don’t go.”

The car door slammed shut, and I saw Williams holding on to him tightly through the window.

Lucas gently squeezed my hand.

“What’s wrong?” I looked down and asked calmly, but my voice cracked.

He stood on tiptoe and patted my head.

“Mom, don’t be sad. I promise that I’ll be very obedient.”

I could no longer hold back. I covered my face and began sobbing.

I had once poured my heart and soul into that relationship. It hurt me deeply to take everything back.

However, it did not matter anymore, and time would heal all wounds.

Three days later, Williams and I finalized our divorce. Immediately after, I started filling in the paperwork for Lucas’s adoption.
