CHAPTER 72

The pain was worse than I had imagined.

“Damn it, Neal,” I muttered, reaching out for my wolf, but she wasn’t responsive.

I managed to pull my body up, ignoring the pain. A liquid trickled down my forehead, almost getting into my eyes. I wiped it off my face and glanced at it—it was blood, my blood.

A howl caught my attention, the scent of marshmallows hitting my nose. Slowly raising my head, I stared in the direction of the sound, only to find a wolf walking toward me. If I got hit by that thing again, it would have a severe effect on me.

The wolf picked up its pace and lunged at me. I tried reaching for the little knife I had with me, groaning in the process, but the knife was no longer there.

Was I going to die? I just wanted a peaceful vacation with Tedros and to take a break, but here I was, in the middle of a rogue attack without a wolf, a weapon, and badly injured. I never wanted death, and even if I did, I didn’t want to be killed by a rogue.
