Rylan’s POV

“Maya!” I called out in panic, trying to hold her. “Open your eyes, Maya. Listen to me. I’m right here.”

She clutched the blanket, her sweat-soaked dress clinging to her as tears streamed down her cheeks. The scene felt foreign to me; I had never seen anyone hallucinate before.

“Let me go, please,” she sobbed, curling up on her side. “Mom… please help me, Mom. I don’t want this.”

Her whimper felt like a sharp knife cutting through my heart. I didn’t know what had happened to her to cause such pain, but the sight was unbearable.

“Do something!” Ryker yelled, snapping me out of my trance.

“I hate you… so much,” she muttered, her breathing uneven.

“Maya?” I pulled her up, and her eyes fluttered open. “What just happened to you? Who were you arguing with?”

“I’m tired, Rylan,” she whispered, wiping her tears. “I need some rest. Is that too much to ask for?”

“I won’t ask any more questions. Just relax, okay?” I said. She lay back on the blanket, facing me.

I joined her, staring

Maya’s POVThe alley was dark, and the air was cold as I pulled my coat tighter around me. My heartbeat raced, my lips trembled, but my feet kept moving, leading me toward the shadowy figure ahead. A part of me whispered that he was the one, the man I had been searching for my entire life.Suddenly, a strong scent filled my nostrils, accompanied by the sound of boots behind me. My breath hitched as I spun around. A tall, ominous man stood there, his face hidden behind a black mask and a hoodie pulled low over his head.I glanced over my shoulder. The shadow I had been following had stopped, giving me a chance to catch up. Yet the masked man’s scent lingered, pulling me toward him with an irresistible force.“Stop,” I whispered, my voice barely audible over the sudden gust of wind. The man reached for the edge of his mask as if to reveal his face. Then I felt it, a tap on my shoulder, followed by a faint, distorted voice calling my name.“Wake up, Maya!”White light blurred my vision a

She bullied me.”“What? That’s not…” I started, but before I could finish, a hard, metal-like hand connected with my cheek, sending me crashing to the floor. The sharp sting spread across my face, leaving my body trembling from the impact.“How dare you!” he roared, his fists clenched tightly as he loomed over me like a storm cloud.“She ruined my hair!” Tiffany’s wail cut through the air, her voice full of false anguish. The man grabbed me by the scruff of my neck, slamming me against the wall. My breath caught as his hand circled around my throat. His forest-green eyes burned with an otherworldly intensity that froze me in terror.“Let… let go,” I whispered, choking on the words.“You have no right,” he thundered. “No one has the right to lay a finger on her!”“Hold her tight, Rylan!”

Rylan’s POVSilence blanketed the meeting hall the moment I entered and took my seat at the end of the long table. Uncle Dawson, one of the pack elders and my uncle, sat at the opposite end, his piercing gaze fixed on me. From the moment he arranged this meeting, I already knew what was coming. The elders exchanged uncertain glances, hesitant about who should speak first.“Can someone tell me why I’ve been summoned?” I snapped, my patience wearing thin.“Your Luna, Rylan,” Uncle Dawson said, sitting upright and lacing his fingers on the table. I knew exactly where this was headed. Leaning back in my chair, I folded my arms across my chest.“We’ve given you more than enough time to choose a Luna,” he continued. “The pack lives in constant fear of attacks when you’re away studying. We’re left to protect ourselves without leadership. You’re already 20 years old. You could…”“I’m still 19, Uncle!” I groaned, slamming my fist on the table as I stood. “Why do you keep bringing up this fucki

Maya’s POVThat bloody bastard! I knew he was up to something, but I kept going back to him anyway. “You sold me out again, Schmuck!” I yelled, trying to kick Stephen between the legs as he yanked me off the floor.“He offered a mouthwatering reward, Maya. I couldn’t say no to that,” he said, dragging me toward the man who had apparently gone to book a room—to have his way with me. All for money.“You’re the most despicable, useless person I’ve ever met,” I spat, spitting in his face.“Don’t worry, pip-squeak. I’ll tell him to go easy on you,” he smirked.“Mom?” My head snapped in a direction. Stephen immediately let go of me, and I fell onto my back. My heart pounded in my chest as I scrambled to my feet.“Where the hell is your mom?” he demanded, scanning the crowd.“Fuck you!” I cursed, bolting away.“Cunning little freak! Get back here!” he yelled, chasing after me. I sprinted through the crowd, crashing into someone at the entrance before slipping into the darkness outside.Crouc

Even so, my heartbeat quickened, and my breaths came shallow. What the hell had just happened?“What’s your name?” he asked calmly.I narrowed my eyes on him. He acted like a two-faced coin: perfect one moment, villainous the next.“Maya,” I said, my voice barely audible.“How did you know my name?”“That vixen called your name the other time,” I replied. “And I won’t let you or her go scot-free for what you did to my hair. She tossed her hair over her shoulder and gave a bright, toothy smile, though it seemed forced and insincere.“Did you miss your way?” I asked, my tone sharp.“Certainly not,” she replied, her voice soft and sultry as she closed the distance between us. “I know exactly where I came,” she whispered, her fingers lightly grazing my arm.“Personal space,” I said, gripping her hand and pushing her back. “Who the hell are you, and how did you get here?” My patience was wearing thin.“I sent her,” Uncle Dawson said, walking into my room. “There are more of them in the waiting hall.”I frowned. “I don’t understand. Rylan’s POVThe persistent banging on my door jolted me awake. The pain in my head throbbed, blurring my vision. I hated hangovers, yet I couldn't stop myself from drinking too much last night.“Rylan!” Uncle Dawson's voice boomed, the force of his knocks shaking the walls.“Don’t break down my door!” I shouted back, scrambling out of bed. “It’s still early.”“It’s past 10 a.m., and you’re still sleeping!” he barked, pushing past me and entering the room. “Where were you last night? You made us look like fools in front of everyone.”I closed the door, leaning against it and folding my arms across my chest. “That’s what you get for doing things without my consent,” I retorted.“Stubborn brat! Have you found your mate? Who is she, and when are you introducing her to us?” he demanded.I ran my fingers through my hair and sat on the vanity chair.“I found her,” I said.“So, when are we meeting her?”“She’s human,” I blurted out.Uncle Dawson’s

You should believe me!” Her tone was filled with disappointment.“I did once, but you broke that trust. I hate lies, Tiffany. You know that.”“You’re not even calling me Tiffster anymore! What has that slut done to you?” she cried, storming out of my room. I shook my head and followed her out.“Today is your birthday,” Uncle Dawson said the moment I reached the garage. He was standing with Beta Beckett.“So?” I tilted my head.“Where are you going? The guests will start arriving soon.”“I didn’t invite anyone, so why would my presence matter to them? They’re your guests. Take care of them,” I said, opening my car door.“Today is the end of the ultimatum, Alpha,” Beta Beckett added, drawing a glare from me. “If you don’t sense your mate, you’ll have no choice but to choose a random Luna.”“I know,” I replied sharply. “The day isn’t over yet, so don’t bother me

Rylan’s POVMaya’s reaction spoiled my mood for the day. I didn’t bother going to class; I went back home instead. I had no idea what I did this time. I thought we had moved past the rape incident. Why was she so pissed at me?“Hey, Rylan,” Tiffany greeted, walking into my room as I sat on the bed. “You came back so early. What happened?” she asked, sitting beside me.“For the last time, Tiffster, did Maya ever bully you?” My question caught her off guard as she narrowed her eyes at me.“Where is that coming from?”“Just answer the damn question!” I snapped, losing my temper. “There’s no way Maya would have bullied you to the extent of ruining your hair. She’s just human, and you’re a wolf from the Brook bloodline. How did she manage to overpower you?” My glare was intense, and she shifted back.“Fine, she didn’t, but I needed to teach her a lesson. Happy now?” she admitted.“How dare you!” I yelled, lifting my hand to hit her.“Don’t you dare!” Uncle Dawson’s voice interrupted as Tif

Maya's POV “You never cared to know, Mom. Why are you suddenly interested?” I asked, my voice breaking. “Whenever I tried talking to you about my problems, you never gave me a listening ear. You left me to handle my problems alone and forced your orders on me without caring about how I felt. Don’t try to act concerned now. Just focus on taking care of Annabel; she’s all you ever cared about,” I poured out, tears filling my eyes.“What are you talking about, sweetheart?” she asked softly, cupping my face with one hand. “Of course, I care about you. You’re my first child, so why would you think I care about your sister more than I care about you? I’m your mother. I will always listen to you, and I’m sorry if I failed you in that aspect. Why do you take those medications?”I sniffed, wiping my tears. “I was depressed, Mom. Mr. Dante…” I paused, watching my mother’s eyes narrow at me. “Never mind. You won’t believe me anyway,” I declared, storming into the bathroom.“Come on, sweetheart.

Maya’s POVMy chest tightened as I stared at him, my gaze filled with disdain. Tears welled in my eyes, but I fought to hold them back. He wasn’t done with me yet. Maybe his clients didn’t want minors anymore.“So, you can use me over and over again?” My voice wavered, despite my efforts to sound firm. “Fine, Rylan. Fine. Sell me off to those bastards—those monsters. But please, just tell me where Stephen is. Moxie needs him. Without him, she can’t survive.”“Why do you always assume I have something to do with Stephen?” His voice was barely a whisper. “You don’t even give me a chance to explain myself. When I try, you don’t believe me.”His eyes flickered amber, and I gasped, cringing in my seat. He clenched his fists, as if battling some internal struggle. Then he steadied himself. “Will you listen to me now, please?” he asked, his tone more controlled.“Fine,” I muttered, looking away from him.“I’m a regular at the club,” he began. “But I had no idea what Stephen was doing. Maya’s POVI tried so hard to move on from the incident. It wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. I should be used to it by now, but the thought of Rylan orchestrating the whole scheme brought tears to my eyes. He had always bullied me, always hurt me. And for what? Pouring water on him? That was enough for him to hire men to assault me? How heartless could he be?My shoulders slumped as I walked to the bench where Moxie sat. “Hi,” I said, forcing a smile as I sat beside her. She didn’t even look at me. Her fingers repeatedly dialed a number, her hazel eyes shimmering with unshed tears.“What’s wrong, Moxie?” I asked, draping an arm around her shoulders. She jolted, startled by my touch. “What happened? Who are you trying to call so desperately?” I pressed, my concern growing. She wiped her tears and put her phone away before facing me. “I don’t deserve to be called your friend, Maya,” she said, tears now streaming freely. Her hands trembled as she spoke.“What are y
