Maya’s POV
The alley was dark, and the air was cold as I pulled my coat tighter around me. My heartbeat raced, my lips trembled, but my feet kept moving, leading me toward the shadowy figure ahead. A part of me whispered that he was the one, the man I had been searching for my entire life. Suddenly, a strong scent filled my nostrils, accompanied by the sound of boots behind me. My breath hitched as I spun around. A tall, ominous man stood there, his face hidden behind a black mask and a hoodie pulled low over his head. I glanced over my shoulder. The shadow I had been following had stopped, giving me a chance to catch up. Yet the masked man’s scent lingered, pulling me toward him with an irresistible force. “Stop,” I whispered, my voice barely audible over the sudden gust of wind. The man reached for the edge of his mask as if to reveal his face. Then I felt it, a tap on my shoulder, followed by a faint, distorted voice calling my name. “Wake up, Maya!” White light blurred my vision as I opened my eyes to find a figure leaning over me. “You’re running late for your lectures, Maya. Get up!” my mom snapped, shaking me awake. Reality hit me hard as I swayed my head around. My heart still pounded in my chest. “You’ve got a lecture at 10 AM. Look at the time!” she said, pointing at the wall clock. “It’s five minutes past nine, and you know the transit takes 15 to 20 minutes to reach campus,” she grumbled, pulling clothes from my closet. “Go shower now and come downstairs for breakfast.” “Mom!” I groaned, slamming my fists on the bed. “I told you I didn’t want to go to college. I asked you to withdraw my application. You just ruined my sleep and my chance to see the face of the jerk who keeps haunting my dreams. I was so close!” “Enough, Maya!” she snapped, turning to face me. “I’ve had it with your nonsense. Get into that bathroom, freshen up, and get ready. You have ten minutes.” She slammed the door behind her. I grumbled under my breath as I dragged myself out of bed. *** My shoulders slumped as I stared at the campus building. Frustration and anger bubbled inside me. I had been so close, and now I was stuck here. For what? To study? What was studying compared to my investigation? “I hate this, Mom!” I muttered, clenching my fists as I stomped toward my department. Distracted, I collided with someone and fell flat on my back, my books scattering to the ground. “I’m so sorry, miss. Are you okay?” a deep, captivating voice asked. I looked up to see a man offering me his hand. Our eyes locked, and for a moment, I was lost in his forest-green gaze. “Your hand, miss?” he said, snapping me out of my daze. I batted his hand away and scrambled to my feet. “Watch where you’re going. Or get glasses if you need them,” I snapped, my irritation flaring. He tilted his head slightly, making my heart skip a beat. “You bumped into me, remember?” he said, his tone sharp. “Watch your steps, or maybe get glasses yourself.” Before I could retort, he turned and walked away. I clenched my fists, grinding my teeth. If looks could kill, he would be six feet under. Then he pulled on his hoodie, and my breath caught. My mind reeled as I stumbled back. The figure from my dream, the scent that had pulled me toward him, it was him. “Him... That’s him,” I whispered as he disappeared into the foggy distance. My phone buzzed, my mom’s name flashing on the screen. “Ugh!” I groaned, spinning on my heels and marching to class. How would I find him again? Did he study here? Was he a professor? Questions flooded my mind as I stared out the classroom window, the lecturer’s voice fading into the background. As soon as the lecture ended, I was the first to leave, my eyes scanning the campus for him. “Look who we have here,” a malicious voice sneered behind me. I knew that voice, and my blood boiled. “Never thought you’d make it to college,” she continued. “Surprising to see you here.” Tiffany stood in front of me, flanked by her two red-haired minions. She popped her bubble gum obnoxiously close to my face. “Enemies should always be surprised, shouldn’t they?” I retorted, glaring at her. “Oh, you’re right,” she said, a cruel smile spreading across her face. “And you just reminded me, we have unfinished business. Girls, grab her.” Her minions seized my arms, dragging me toward a secluded corner despite my struggles. “Let me go, Tiffany!” I yelled, jerking my head in protest. “Pin her to the wall,” Tiffany ordered. Her minions shoved me against the wall as Tiffany pulled a pair of scissors from her bag. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” I demanded, my chest heaving, eyes wide with shock. “Just a little trim,” she said, bringing the scissors dangerously close to my hair. “Don’t you dare! Let me go!” I cried, struggling against their grip. But then something changed. Tiffany’s hands trembled, and the scissors fell to the ground. Her expression shifted to one of terror as she swayed slightly. “Hide, girls. Hide now,” she ordered, her voice shaking. Her minions fled, leaving me slumped against the wall, unsure of what was happening. Tiffany dropped to the floor, clutching the ends of her hair, and cutting them. “Stop it, please,” she begged, her voice breaking. “Don’t do this, my hair!” Her fake panic left me bewildered. “Tiffster?” someone called, rushing toward us. My heart caught in my throat as Tiffany threw the scissors toward me.Maya’s POV“What’s wrong?” he asked, his voice low and stern. It was him, the same man from my dream. “She…” Tiffany pointed at me, her chest heaving as tears streamed down her face. “She cut my hair. She bullied me.”“What? That’s not…” I started, but before I could finish, a hard, metal-like hand connected with my cheek, sending me crashing to the floor. The sharp sting spread across my face, leaving my body trembling from the impact.“How dare you!” he roared, his fists clenched tightly as he loomed over me like a storm cloud.“She ruined my hair!” Tiffany’s wail cut through the air, her voice full of false anguish. The man grabbed me by the scruff of my neck, slamming me against the wall. My breath caught as his hand circled around my throat. His forest-green eyes burned with an otherworldly intensity that froze me in terror.“Let… let go,” I whispered, choking on the words.“You have no right,” he thundered. “No one has the right to lay a finger on her!”“Hold her tight, Rylan!”
Rylan’s POVSilence blanketed the meeting hall the moment I entered and took my seat at the end of the long table. Uncle Dawson, one of the pack elders and my uncle, sat at the opposite end, his piercing gaze fixed on me. From the moment he arranged this meeting, I already knew what was coming. The elders exchanged uncertain glances, hesitant about who should speak first.“Can someone tell me why I’ve been summoned?” I snapped, my patience wearing thin.“Your Luna, Rylan,” Uncle Dawson said, sitting upright and lacing his fingers on the table. I knew exactly where this was headed. Leaning back in my chair, I folded my arms across my chest.“We’ve given you more than enough time to choose a Luna,” he continued. “The pack lives in constant fear of attacks when you’re away studying. We’re left to protect ourselves without leadership. You’re already 20 years old. You could…”“I’m still 19, Uncle!” I groaned, slamming my fist on the table as I stood. “Why do you keep bringing up this fucki
Maya’s POVThat bloody bastard! I knew he was up to something, but I kept going back to him anyway. “You sold me out again, Schmuck!” I yelled, trying to kick Stephen between the legs as he yanked me off the floor.“He offered a mouthwatering reward, Maya. I couldn’t say no to that,” he said, dragging me toward the man who had apparently gone to book a room—to have his way with me. All for money.“You’re the most despicable, useless person I’ve ever met,” I spat, spitting in his face.“Don’t worry, pip-squeak. I’ll tell him to go easy on you,” he smirked.“Mom?” My head snapped in a direction. Stephen immediately let go of me, and I fell onto my back. My heart pounded in my chest as I scrambled to my feet.“Where the hell is your mom?” he demanded, scanning the crowd.“Fuck you!” I cursed, bolting away.“Cunning little freak! Get back here!” he yelled, chasing after me. I sprinted through the crowd, crashing into someone at the entrance before slipping into the darkness outside.Crouc

Do you understand?” he warned. I nodded, and he finally looked away. Whatever invisible force had bound us snapped, freeing me from his irresistible gaze. Even so, my heartbeat quickened, and my breaths came shallow. What the hell had just happened?“What’s your name?” he asked calmly.I narrowed my eyes on him. He acted like a two-faced coin: perfect one moment, villainous the next.“Maya,” I said, my voice barely audible.“How did you know my name?”“That vixen called your name the other time,” I replied. “And I won’t let you or her go scot-free for what you did to my hair. You’ll pay dearly…” His hostile glare shut me up immediately.“Which direction?” he asked.“This way,” I muttered, pointing to the left. When we arrived at my mom’s house, she was standing outside with Annabel, my little
Rylan’s POVAs I finished dressing and picked up my phone to leave, there was a knock on the door.“Yeah, come in,” I said, assuming it was Tiffany. But when I turned, my eyes narrowed at the unfamiliar woman standing there. She tossed her hair over her shoulder and gave a bright, toothy smile, though it seemed forced and insincere.“Did you miss your way?” I asked, my tone sharp.“Certainly not,” she replied, her voice soft and sultry as she closed the distance between us. “I know exactly where I came,” she whispered, her fingers lightly grazing my arm.“Personal space,” I said, gripping her hand and pushing her back. “Who the hell are you, and how did you get here?” My patience was wearing thin.“I sent her,” Uncle Dawson said, walking into my room. “There are more of them in the waiting hall.”I frowned. “I don’t understand. More women? What’s the occasion?”“Your Luna choosing festival. Since you spend most of your time studying and training, I decided to bring some women to enter
Rylan's POV“Alpha?” Tiffany called, stopping abruptly and covering her mouth with her hand. My gaze shifted to her as she made a guilty face and mouthed, “I’m sorry.”“Alpha?” Maya chuckled, stepping away from me and wiping her tears. “Both of you are delusional losers,” she mocked, heading off.“How dare you?” Tiffany groaned, her fists clenched as she tried to lunge at Maya, who turned to face her instantly.“Hey, watch it!” another girl interjected, stepping between Maya and Tiffany. “You only got your way with her last time because I wasn’t there. Try it again, and you’ll leave this campus with a bald head,” the girl threatened, meeting Tiffany’s hard glare.“Can you believe this, Rylan?” Tiffany cried, turning to me for support.“Let her go,” I said, my eyes locked on Maya, who was now hiding behind her defender.“You can’t do anything, douchebags. It’s two against two,” Maya taunted. Her defender shot her a warning glance, and she instantly fell silent.Shaking my head, I grabb
