(Chase’s POV)
“Dammit!” I looked up and down the street, but she had already disappeared. I could try to chase after her, but I didn’t even see what direction she went in. I headed back inside and took the stairs two at a time. I needed to find out where she lived and I needed to get to her.
I walked into the bedroom to see Jensen still sitting on the floor. I winced at the sight of the bruises, and his already swollen eye. Now that I wasn’t under the fog of a possessive jerk, I felt bad. I went to help him up when the image of him naked in bed with my mate flashed through my mind, and I growled without realising.
“Whoa!” Jensen said, pulling his hand back. He glared at me and I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. It wasn’t helping. I was on edge. Not only seeing them together infuriated me.But now my mate was running around the goddess damn city unprotected.
“Listen Chase, I didn’t know. You know that…” He trailed off as I growled at him. He needed to drop the subject until I could think clearly. He might be my best friend, but I still couldn’t get that image of them together out of my head, and I wouldn’t hesitate to rip him apart right now. He pulled himself to his feet and then backed away, his hands in the air. “Put some fucking clothes on,” I growled at him, my alpha tone accidentally coming through. He nodded and grabbed some jeans from the floor, wincing in pain, before limping into the bathroom.
“And hurry up, because we need to get back home,” I called through the door.
“Yes, sir,” I heard back through the door. That hurt for a moment. I had never pulled rank on him, but I guess I had just kicked the shit out of him. I sighed as I noticed something on the nightstand light up. I went over and saw it was a mobile phone. And someone called Jeremy was ringing. I was deliberating whether to answer or not when the call rang off. I could tell from the screensaver that the phone didn’t belong to Jensen. It was a picture of my mate with a younger blond girl, a friend maybe? I shrugged and pocketed the phone. Maybe I could get Ivy to hack it, or whatever my kid sister did with her computers.
Jensen came limping out of the bathroom, thankfully fully dressed. He nodded at me and I nodded back. I knew I would need to apologise for being a dick, but now wasn’t the time.
“Okay, we need to go pick up my mate and then head back home,” I said. “My dad sent me to pick you up due to some emergency with an ally,” Jensen nodded.
“Sure, just one thing, well two actually,” he said, and I raised my eyebrows, waiting for him to continue.
“First off, how do you plan to find her? And should you find her, I highly doubt she will come back willingly.”
“What do you mean, how am I going to find her? You know her address, right?” I asked, and he shook his head.
“Nope, she never told me,” he said. Dammit! What the hell was I going to do? I guess that I could only go home and have security, put a search on her and see if Ivy could get some information from her phone.
“Right,” I said defeatedly, “Let’s get home and then we can sort this crap out from there.” Jensen nodded and we set off. The pack territory was around a twenty minute drive once you go out of the city, so it wouldn’t take us too long to get there. Jensen hesitated as I headed to my car that was parked on the street.
“Erm Chase?” he asked, and I looked over. “I don’t think I’m in any state to drive right now.” Fuck! I am such a dick. He was right, one eye was swollen shut, and he was still limping. I shook my head.
“We’ll get a pair of omegas to pick up your car later,” I said, and he nodded before heading to my car with me. We got set off and luckily traffic was good and we made it back to the territory gates in good time, which was good because the tension in the car was awful.
We waited in silence as security opened the gates and then I drove down the long drive into the territory. We were lucky to have such a big pack territory. We even had some commercial businesses here. Most packs had to attach to a town of sorts so that they could get daily supplies, but we were one of the few packs that were self-sufficient. I turned at the waterfall and headed towards the pack house. The pack house and the two boarding houses were separated from the rest of the territory by a river that ran through our land. A lot of the pack activity happened there, but the family homes and the commercial side were in the main part of the territory or the next valley. And we were lucky that our whole ground was nestled within a couple of valleys, making it a lot easier to protect our borders.
I crossed the river at the main bridge and turned past the main park and up to the pack house. The two boarding houses were for single pack members, one for civilian members and one for the pack warriors. There was a third boarding house off territory, which was for when we held special events like the mating balls. My father encouraged socialisation, and we had our fair share of events, mostly with the intent of me finding my mate in time, but also so our pack members had a chance to meet other packs and potentially find their mates too.
I smiled at myself as I pulled up to the pack house that stood at the head of the park. I guess I wouldn’t need to be so keen to attend these events now that I had found my mate. I jumped out of the car and looked around at all the activity, pack members going about their business, happy that I would soon be able to introduce them to their future Luna. I knew my dad was keen to retire from his position as Alpha and pass on the title to me. And I was keen to take the position and be the best Alpha that I was able to for my people.
Jensen made it round the car, and I offered him an arm for support. He raised his eyebrows at me in question and I grimaced.
“I’m gonna head to my room first,” he said, and walked past me into the house. The pack house housed the ranked families. I shared the top floor with my parents and my sister Ivy and then the second floor was split between Beta Alrik, his mate Bridgit and Jensen, and our Gamma Seth and his family. Then the first floor housed the main offices and the ground floor was where the grand hall was, as well as a few common rooms for pack members to hang out in.
I watched as Jensen limped his way up the stairs and sighed. I couldn’t believe how much of a mess this was. I had heard so much about the girl that Jensen had been seeing at the club in the city. About how much he liked her and how he even wanted her to be his chosen mate. If I had just gone with him once, then this could have been a lot less messy. I sighed. There was nothing that I could do about it now.
I headed into the house and nodded at a few of the pack members that I passed and headed upstairs to the first floor. I walked down to my father’s office and knocked before walking in. Everyone looked up from their seats as I headed towards the bar at the far end and poured myself a whisky and grabbed a can of coke from the mini fridge. I turned around to see the room looking at me.
“Nice to see you finally arrived, son,” my dad said from behind his desk. I nodded and poured the coke into the glass before putting the empty can in the trash and walking over to one of the empty seats. Other than my dad, Beta Alrik, Gamma Seth, and his son Zack were in the room, as well as Everett Stanton, our pack Commander, in charge of the warriors and the elite warriors. It must have been serious if everyone had been called in.
“Sorry about the delay,” I said with a smile. “Things got a little complex when I went to get Jensen.” My father looked up from the documents that he was reading.
“Complex? How?” I couldn’t stop the grin on my face.
“I found my mate,” I said proudly, and everyone looked at me in shock.
“Your mate?” my father repeated a grin appearing on his face. He stood up to refill his glass.
“Congratulations, man.” Alrik got up and came over and patted me on the back. “Can’t wait to meet her. Where is she from?” I grimaced slightly.
“Erm, I met her in the city,” I said, and they all looked confused.
“But You went to pick up Jen,” Alrik said, “When did you have time to go shopping for your mate? And by the way, where is that son of mine?”
Just then, as if on cue, there was a knock and the study door opened and closed and Jensen limped into the room and nodded to my dad who still stood at the bar.
“I’ll take one of them.” I saw eyes around the room widen and Alrik jumped up, fury on his face.
“What the fuck happened to you?” Alrik looked at his son in alarm. Jensen nodded to me as he sat in the seat next to me.
“This douchebag kicked the shit outta me.” He avoided looking at me directly and I really was going to apologise when the image of him and my mate flashed in my head again and I instinctively tensed up and growled at him.
His head snapped up, and he jumped up, and then winced at the pain.
“Hey, man.” He held his hands up in defence. “I already told you, I had no clue. How was I supposed to have guessed that she would turn out to be your mate?”
“Wait, you were with his mate?” Alrik exclaimed. “I thought you were going to meet with that girl…” He trailed off at a glare from Jensen and realisation dawned on his face, and he turned to stare at me.
“Wait! Kaeleigh? She’s your mate?” Zack blurted out. “Aw man, you’re fucked.” and started laughing. Kaeleigh, that was her name, of course. I remembered Jensen and Zack talking about her. It’s crazy that they were talking about the person I had spent so much of my time looking for. My father walked over to Jensen and handed him a glass.
“I made it a double,” he said as Jensen took it from him and settled back into the chair next to me. I looked at Zack, who was still chuckling to himself.
“What do you mean by fucked?” And both Jensen and Zack grinned.
“Kaeleigh is erm..” Jensen started.
“That girl is feisty. She’s gonna chew you up and spit you out.” Zack said and started laughing again.
“She squares up against Adelaide all the time in the bar,” Jensen said. “They hate each other.”
“And I have seen her kick guys twice her size out without batting an eyelash,” Zack said.
I sat and listened with pride as they told tales about my mate. It seemed that she was certainly amazing Luna material.
“Well, where is the girl?” Seth asked, “When do we get to meet her?” and I looked down.
“I don’t know,” I said and Jensen laughed.
“She kicked him in the balls and ran off,” he said, and Zack burst out laughing again. I glared at Jensen, and he shrugged. I guess I deserved that. I turned to my dad, and he nodded.
“Don’t worry son, we’ll find her,” he said, “But first I need to talk about something else as equally serious, if not more so,”
I am sorry it took a while for this to make an appearance. I was working on a private project but that should be cooling down now so I can focus on this. If you want to be kept up to date on all updates then follow me on I G and F B at @ aislingelizabethauthor
(Alpha Daniel’s POV)I nodded to my son as I saw the worried expression on his face. I knew he was concerned about the danger that his mate would be in if the wrong person found out about it. But for now we would have to put that to one side as we had more pressing, although strangely connected matters to deal with.Chase sat back in one of the chairs opposite me and Jensen glanced over at him from the other. I watched as Jensen nodded, obviously satisfied that his best friend, and soon to be his Alpha, was happy to put the matter of his mate to the side for now. He sat back himself, although winced and shifted in his chair.“After this, go get checked out at the hospital,” I ordered, and he glanced at Chase before nodding. I wasn’t too worried. As werewolves, we healed quickly and he would probably be back to full health in a couple of days, but if any bones were broken and healed out of place, they would nee
(Alpha Daniel’s POV)“What?” Chase exclaimed before turning to face me. I could see the concern etched on his face.“Dad!” he exclaimed, and I nodded and held up my hand.“Well, this just got more complicated,” I said and Alrik scoffed.“Complicated doesn’t cover it.” he said, and I glared at him before carrying on.“At least we know where to find her,” Seth offered, and I grimaced. At least there was that, but I knew that group. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t disappear at the first available chance, and then Chase would be frantic with worry. And rightly so, the poor girl wasn’t just in danger from the damn curse, but also whatever had been chasing her pack her whole life. “Wait,” Chase’s eyes suddenly lit up with excitement, “You’re saying Kaeleigh is from the Scarlet Circle pack?” and Jensen
(Chase’s POV)I left my dad’s office and headed up to the top floor to my room. I started to change my top but realised that the one I was wearing held my new mate’s scent. I wasn’t ready to let that go just yet. I checked in on my little sister, Ivy.“Hey,” I called as I knocked on the door. I opened it to see that she was alone and tapping away on her laptop.“What’s up?” she asked, pulling her headphones off. “Your meeting finished already?” I could tell by the bitter tone in her question. I knew she wanted more to do with pack business, but dad was very protective of her. He even declined her request for warrior training when she turned eighteen, which pissed her off for months. Dad was an old-fashioned Alpha and an Alpha’s daughter was the princess, and as such was treated as so. Even if she didn’t like it.“Yeah, for now,” I said. I
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I sighed as I hung my coat and bag up in the staff room at The Cove. I had missed the last few shifts after finding out about Ezra’s accident. I couldn’t bring myself to leave the apartment and had spent the last three days on the sofa with Tatum and Luke just watching movies and trying to process what had happened.I wanted to be there so much for the twins, but Ezra’s death had brought back feelings of loss from my own parents and we had all ended up just supporting each other through our grief. The twins had probably fared better than me. Luke was mostly silent and just went with the flow. He had the occasional outburst but would then be back to his cool, calm self. And Tatum was a rock for everyone. She switched between being with us and helping Elaina with the funeral arrangements.I, of course, was a big mess of emotions, dealing with that and the revelations of not only finding my
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I walked slowly down the bar and stood in front of Jensen. I avoided the burning gaze of the future Alpha standing right behind him.“Kae,” he said and went to reach out, but a growl behind him stopped him in his tracks. He glanced to the side, a hesitant look on his face, but then looked at me again with a bright smile. He put his hand in his pocket and took it out, holding something that he placed on the bar carefully, so he wasn’t too close to me. I looked down at the object and saw my phone. I picked it up and sighed. I didn’t need to look to see that it was blank. I had wiped it days before. But with a pack like theirs, probably not quick enough.“Thanks,” I said and turned to walk away.“Kae,” he said again, and I stopped.“No Jensen,” I replied, “Please don’t,”“We need to talk to you,” he urged
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Nobody was up when I finally got home. Which was good. I was sweaty and exhausted and really didn’t want to answer any questions or cause any problems. I grabbed a quick shower and slipped into my room clean and fresh but still a little shaken. Was Chase really willing to go so far as to have men try to drag me into a car? If so, then he really was just like all the other Alphas. I normally hated moving, but this was the first time I would be happy to leave a place, and all its mess, behind.I slipped into bed and quickly fell asleep with thoughts of Alphas chasing me again. Soon enough, the familiar recurring dream started up. I was five years old, and I was terrified, running through the dark woods…My eyes flew open to full daylight, with the image of Jonathan’s dead eyes staring at me, accusing me of being the reason his life was cut short. I looked up at the black dress hanging up on the outsi
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“What the hell!” I exclaimed as I glared at Chase. I saw him glance at his father briefly before he looked back at me.“Kae,” I heard Elaina’s voice and glared over at her. She flinched under my look and I immediately felt guilty. I closed my eyes and tried to breathe out the sudden anger that was rising in me.“Kae,” I opened my eyes to Jeremy, who was watching me with concern.“Is what they are saying true?” he asked. “Are you fated to this man?” I glared over at Chase again and shook my head.“It doesn’t matter,” I said. “We are leaving soon,” I heard Jeremy sigh.“Kae, the fated bond is the most sacred and powerful of bonds,” he said. This was exactly why I didn’t want to tell them that I had met my fated mate.“Jeremy,” I turned to him pleading, &ld
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I was given two days to get my affairs in order before someone would arrive to pick me up to take me to my new home at Darl Moon. Tatum took things the hardest, and she shouted and raged for a whole day at her mum, at Jeremy, even at poor Luke, who was just trying to calm his sister down. I mostly kept to myself. I didn’t know how to feel. I still felt betrayed and rejected, but I knew that really Jeremy had no choice. He couldn’t have gone up against an Alpha as powerful as Daniel Stone. I had a feeling that Elaina, Jeremy and Jade felt guilty as well. I would walk into a room and they would all stop talking and either smile at me or avoid looking at me altogether.I just felt like crying. Everything in my life was changing. Pack life was so different from human life. I remembered bits from my early childhood and from the occasional visits to other packs. I knew that the majority of the pack lived in a ce

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
