(Kaeleigh’s POV)

I sighed as I hung my coat and bag up in the staff room at The Cove. I had missed the last few shifts after finding out about Ezra’s accident. I couldn’t bring myself to leave the apartment and had spent the last three days on the sofa with Tatum and Luke just watching movies and trying to process what had happened.

I wanted to be there so much for the twins, but Ezra’s death had brought back feelings of loss from my own parents and we had all ended up just supporting each other through our grief. The twins had probably fared better than me. Luke was mostly silent and just went with the flow. He had the occasional outburst but would then be back to his cool, calm self. And Tatum was a rock for everyone. She switched between being with us and helping Elaina with the funeral arrangements.

I, of course, was a big mess of emotions, dealing with that and the revelations of not only finding my fated mate but the fact that he was an Alpha too. It had been a whole day before Tatum had finally demanded I tell her what had happened to my phone.

“Oh my goddess,” she said after I had told her everything from staying with Jensen and his Alpha walking in on us and then me running away. “I mean, that must have been so awkward,” she started giggling, and I looked at her in disbelief.

“Thanks,” I scoffed, but then felt a smile on my face. She was right, as far as introductions to your fated mates went. Being in bed with his Beta must have been up there with the best.

“What are you going to do about it?” Tatum asked, and I shook my head.

“Erm, nothing,“ I said. “We are leaving after the funeral. I’ll never see him again. Problem sorted,” and Tatum frowned.

“Kae, this isn’t just some guy, this is your fated mate,” she said, and I sighed. Despite her more eccentric ways, I knew Tatum was a romantic at heart.

“Tay, he’s an Alpha,” I said, and she grinned.

“I know,” she wiggled her eyebrows, and I laughed.

“It’s more than just sex,” I said. “I can’t, not to an Alpha. I can’t let him have such control over me.”

“Would it really be so bad?” Tatum asked, “I mean the Dark Moon pack, they are a big pack right?” and I nodded, “So he’s an important Alpha, or will be when he takes over,”

“Exactly,” I said, “And what if he was like Callum? I was powerless against him,”

“Kae, you were sixteen!” Tatum exclaimed, “And he was a bastard. No one is like him.”

“I’m not much stronger now, not without my wolf,” I said “And with the fated bond, I wouldn’t stand a chance,” The fated bond was a powerful one, and the higher-ranking mate was always the more dominant one of the pair, even if the lower ranked mate ranked up they would still be the one that could be beat into submission easily. Even if I had my wolf, I was still only a Gamma rank, so my fated mate being an Alpha rank meant that he would hold the control in our bond. The wrong type of Alpha, and my experience, showed me that there weren’t too many good Alphas, and I would be powerless against him.

“And what if he was one of the good ones?” Tatum asked and I screwed my face up.

“You didn’t see the way he reacted when he found us. I mean, according to Jensen, they are good friends, but that didn’t stop him from kicking the shit out of him. I’m sorry, but no, I think he is just like the rest. All power in their head and self important egos,”

“And do you really think he will stop looking for you?” Tatum asked, and I sighed, “Let’s just get through the funeral, we’ll be gone by the end of the week,”

“And your phone?” Tatum asked, and I groaned. I had realised that morning that I didn’t have it and had sent the wipe code on my laptop for precaution. Hopefully it would be enough, but then I didn’t keep anything too personal in there. A lifetime of hiding meant that we were all cautious about that sort of thing.

“Tay, please don’t tell anyone,” I begged her and even though she looked conflicted, she nodded. I knew she didn’t want to keep secrets from the family, but I couldn’t risk Elaina and Jeremy finding out about this. I had a feeling that if they knew, it would complicate things.

“What are you doing here?” a voice pulled me from my thoughts and I rolled my eyes and turned to Bobby, “Kaeleigh, you don’t have to be at work right now,” He reached out and pulled me into a hug. I wrinkled my nose at the slightly musty smell all vampires seemed to emit, but let him hug me. He finally let me go and held me at arm’s reach to look at me.

“Thanks Bobby,” I said and forced a smile onto my face, “Please, I just need to do something normal, besides I need the money.”

“I’m still paying you,” he scoffed. “You don’t need to work, plus I spoke to Jeremy. He told me you guys are leaving.” I looked at him in surprise. I had no idea that Bobby and Jeremy knew each other. He laughed and winked at me.

“Sorry kid, I know more than you thought I did.”

“Oh,” I said, “I didn’t know you knew him,” and he nodded and smiled sadly.

“I knew your parents too. How do you think they met?” I frowned at that. I always thought my parents were from the same pack. A look came over Bobby’s face like he realised what he said and then he laughed nervously.

“Okay, fine,” he said, “I will let you work, but if you need to go then do, I’m still paying you till the end of the month.”

“Bobby!” I exclaimed. There were at least two more weeks in the month. He just shook his head.

“No arguments,” he said with finality, and turned and walked away. I shook my head. The money would come in handy until we got set up in the new place, and Jeremy had already broached the subject of me helping him in the business once everything settled down.

I headed into the bar. It was still quiet. There were a couple of witches in one of the corner tables and a werewolf sat at the bar. I could tell by his scent that he was a pack wolf and that he was a high ranking one. A Beta was my guess. I was good at guessing ranks. Ezra had told me that not all werewolves could recognise a rank unless the werewolf in question chose to reveal it, but I seemed to just know. Ezra had said it was clearly my keen senses or something. A quick sniff told me that the Beta wasn’t from a pack I knew, although familiar. But I relaxed, knowing he wasn’t from Dark Moon. I knew their scent well from my time with Jensen.

The Beta noticed me and smiled. I smiled back out of politeness but saw his glass was half full so continued on into the bar to where a witch was waiting at the other end. I kept myself busy for the next half hour, serving customers and stocking the shelves and fridges for the rush. It was Thursday night and would likely get busy very soon.

A movement caught my eye, and I looked over to see the Beta waving. I smiled and headed down to that end of the bar. I got a good look at him as I did. I could see that he was built like most werewolves, albeit more slender. But he was covered in tattoos. Both arms were full tattoo sleeves and from what I could see under his black shirt that the tattoos continued all the way up onto his neck.

“Can I get another love?” he said in a really thick Irish accent when I reached him.

“Sure thing,” I smiled, and reached for another glass under the bar. “Vodka and lime?” I raised an eyebrow, and he laughed a rich laugh.

“What can I say? I like them sweet,” he said with a wink and I couldn’t help but grin. I poured his drink just as a few more werewolves came into the bar.

“Aw love, better get one for the boss too,” he said “top shelf whisky and coke for that one,” he said and I looked up to see the Alpha from the other night among the new wolves. I forced a smile on and reached for another glass and poured the drink. I placed it down just as the Alpha sat down and he smiled at me.

“Ah thank you,” he said with a bright smile. “You haven’t been working lately. I thought I had scared you off.” I smiled and shrugged, taking the money from the Beta.

“Girl needs a holiday every now and then,” I said as I rang up the order. I went to hand the change to the Beta, and he shook his head.

“Keep it love,” he said, and I smiled a thanks and dropped it into the tip jar. I went to head off down the bar when the Alpha spoke again.

“Still alone?” he asked, and I smiled and nodded. “Ever thought about joining a pack?” I couldn’t help but roll my eyes and the Beta laughed.

“Bet a pretty one like you gets that question a lot,” he said and patted his Alpha on the back.

“Sorry man, I can spot a lone wolf when I see one,” he said with a wink, “I reckon she would be too much trouble to add to your list anyways,” The Alpha glared at his Beta for a moment but then rolled his eyes,

“Oh I don’t know Cade,” he said, his eyes looking me up and down, “There are some she-wolves who could make a guy want to settle down,“ the Beta responded by almost choking on his drink. I raised an eyebrow at the pair. I was used to attention from werewolves, mostly rogues, but I did seem to attract the attention of the Alphas too.

“Bloody hell!” the Beta exclaimed. “That’d be a sight, the all mighty Asher settling down with one woman,” he laughed again. The Alpha just rolled his eyes and then smiled at me.

“Don’t listen to him darling,” he said, “And if you ever do want to put down pack roots, then I’m sure we would always have room for a wolf such as yourself,” he winked at me and I forced a smile on my face again.

“Thanks for the offer,” I replied, “But I as I said the other day, I am good by myself.”

I heard the door open before the scent hit me. I was still facing the two werewolves at the time, but noticed the Alpha stiffen and glanced to the side towards the door.

“All alone but not alone again,” he said, and grinned at me. I didn’t even need to turn around to know who had just walked in.

“Kae,” I stiffened at the voice and sighed. The Alpha gave me a curious look before turning to his Beta, but I knew he was still watching.

“Kae, please, we need to talk,” the voice at the other end of the bar called.

I plastered a smile on my face and turned to face Jensen, and standing right behind him was his Alpha and my fated mate.

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I walked slowly down the bar and stood in front of Jensen. I avoided the burning gaze of the future Alpha standing right behind him.“Kae,” he said and went to reach out, but a growl behind him stopped him in his tracks. He glanced to the side, a hesitant look on his face, but then looked at me again with a bright smile. He put his hand in his pocket and took it out, holding something that he placed on the bar carefully, so he wasn’t too close to me. I looked down at the object and saw my phone. I picked it up and sighed. I didn’t need to look to see that it was blank. I had wiped it days before. But with a pack like theirs, probably not quick enough.“Thanks,” I said and turned to walk away.“Kae,” he said again, and I stopped.“No Jensen,” I replied, “Please don’t,”“We need to talk to you,” he urged

I grabbed a quick shower and slipped into my room clean and fresh but still a little shaken. Was Chase really willing to go so far as to have men try to drag me into a car? If so, then he really was just like all the other Alphas. I normally hated moving, but this was the first time I would be happy to leave a place, and all its mess, behind.I slipped into bed and quickly fell asleep with thoughts of Alphas chasing me again. Soon enough, the familiar recurring dream started up. I was five years old, and I was terrified, running through the dark woods…My eyes flew open to full daylight, with the image of Jonathan’s dead eyes staring at me, accusing me of being the reason his life was cut short. She flinched under my look and I immediately felt guilty. I closed my eyes and tried to breathe out the sudden anger that was rising in me.“Kae,” I opened my eyes to Jeremy, who was watching me with concern.“Is what they are saying true?” he asked. “Are you fated to this man?” I glared over at Chase again and shook my head.“It doesn’t matter,” I said. “We are leaving soon,” I heard Jeremy sigh.“Kae, the fated bond is the most sacred and powerful of bonds,” he said. This was exactly why I didn’t want to tell them that I had met my fated mate.“Jeremy,” I turned to him pleading, &ld

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I was given two days to get my affairs in order before someone would arrive to pick me up to take me to my new home at Darl Moon. Tatum took things the hardest, and she shouted and raged for a whole day at her mum, at Jeremy, even at poor Luke, who was just trying to calm his sister down. I mostly kept to myself. I didn’t know how to feel. I still felt betrayed and rejected, but I knew that really Jeremy had no choice. He couldn’t have gone up against an Alpha as powerful as Daniel Stone. I had a feeling that Elaina, Jeremy and Jade felt guilty as well. I would walk into a room and they would all stop talking and either smile at me or avoid looking at me altogether.I just felt like crying. Everything in my life was changing. Pack life was so different from human life. I remembered bits from my early childhood and from the occasional visits to other packs. I knew that the majority of the pack lived in a ce

(Kaeleigh’s POV)Morning came and I couldn’t help but feel nervous about what the day would bring. Today I would be leaving my friends, the family I grew up with, and my life. I knew that by this time tomorrow, everything would be different.Elaina had packed the majority of my clothes but had left out a dress for me. It was a jade green skater-style sleeveless dress that had a delicate black lace pattern down one side and it brought out the green in my eyes. I left my strawberry blond hair loose and wavy as it fell halfway down my back.I walked out of my bedroom for likely the last time and into the main apartment. Elaina, Jeremy and Jade were sitting at the table, all silently drinking their coffee. They all watched me as I walked into the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. I turned around and looked at them as I drank. I didn’t know what to say. I don’t think they did either. I sighed and put the

  • Alpha Hybrid Queen   Chapter 16

(Kaeleigh’s POV)From what I knew, the Dark Moon pack was around 30 or so miles away, so it would only take us around an hour to get there. I watched the scenery out of the window as the cities gave way to the countryside. Most packs were pretty secluded away and protected from prying eyes, and around 50 minutes later, I could tell when we were getting close just by the lack of civilisation.Adam pulled into what appeared to be a private road that looked like it cut into the entrance of a mountain range. There was a tall black iron gate and a small gatehouse just inside. The gate began to open electronically, probably controlled by a guard in the gatehouse. When it had opened wide enough, Adam pulled the van through, and as we passed the gates, I felt butterflies in my stomach. This was it. We had arrived at our destination, my new home. Adam slowly drove the van past the gatehouse, stopping briefly and speaking to another guard, and

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I walked into the room with hesitation and was surprised to see Chase leaning against the back wall. He stood up and smiled at me. He made a move to step forward towards me, but I moved away from him. He stopped and looked hurt, but then nodded and stepped back again.“Welcome to the pack,” he said quietly and smiled. I forced a polite smile on my face, but I think it came out more as a grimace. The Beta closed the door and walked round to stand behind and to the right of the Alpha, his face completely expressionless now. The Alpha looked up from a file that he was reading from. “Ah, Miss Buckley,” he smiled. “Please take a seat.” He indicated another leather chair in front of his desk.I sat in the chair a

(Kaeleigh’s POV)“What offer?” My interest was piqued.“You will be assigned to work with Emmerson on the pack businesses,” he stated. I had a feeling that this was non-negotiable in his eyes, but it sure was going to be up for discussion with me. It seemed pretty suspicious that he would know about my involvement with Ezra’s and Jeremy’s business. I always made a point of not being mentioned or taking any credit for their business dealings. I just gave ideas. It was up to them to decide if they should act upon it. So for Alpha Stone to know that I was involved, no matter how small, made me cautious. Did he want me in the pack for something other than mating with his son? It would explain why he so readily agreed to my request to not be forced to complete the mate bond.

  • Alpha Hybrid Queen   Epilogue

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat

(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.

(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h

(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n

(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the

(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g

(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
