(Kaeleigh’s POV)
“What the hell!” I exclaimed as I glared at Chase. I saw him glance at his father briefly before he looked back at me.
“Kae,” I heard Elaina’s voice and glared over at her. She flinched under my look and I immediately felt guilty. I closed my eyes and tried to breathe out the sudden anger that was rising in me.
“Kae,” I opened my eyes to Jeremy, who was watching me with concern.
“Is what they are saying true?” he asked. “Are you fated to this man?” I glared over at Chase again and shook my head.
“It doesn’t matter,” I said. “We are leaving soon,” I heard Jeremy sigh.
“Kae, the fated bond is the most sacred and powerful of bonds,” he said. This was exactly why I didn’t want to tell them that I had met my fated mate.
“Jeremy,” I turned to him pleading, “Please,” and he shook his head.
“Kaeleigh, Alpha Stone has petitioned for you to transfer to his pack,” he said “And as acting Alpha of our pack, I think it would be a good idea.”
“What?” I gasped “No! I don’t want to join their pack,”
The Alpha’s eyes snapped to me, a glint of anger flashing through them briefly. He walked around from the other side of the dining table, never taking his eyes from me. He sat on the edge of the dining table, still silently watching me. I returned his gaze with a glare.
“Kaeleigh!” Jeremy hissed. “Bow your head. Show some respect.”
I looked over to him glaring at me while Elaina pleaded with me with her eyes. They both looked concerned and tired. I let out a defeated sigh and bowed my head, my eyes on the floor. I couldn’t stand to see them hurt and what was I going to do, go up against the Alpha of the biggest pack in Europe? I would be slaughtered in minutes. I felt a single tear roll down my cheek and watched as it dropped to the floor at my feet.
“What would you have me do, child?” I looked up at the Alpha again. “You have no Alpha and no heir.” I closed my eyes to try to stop the tears from flowing out as he carried on. “The two of you are the only ones left of the Scarlet Circle pack.”
“What the hell!” I snapped, glaring back up at the Alpha.
“How dare you discount our Luna as a member of the pack while you stand in her home?” I felt rage building up in me again, and instinct took over and I leapt at the Alpha without thinking. But I didn’t reach him before something restrained me around the waist, holding me in the air from behind as I tried to kick and punch whoever had grabbed me. Panic set in as flashbacks from that night 18 years ago flashed through my mind, as I was once again helpless and unable to get free. One of my kicks must have hit somewhere though, as I vaguely heard a grunt before I was released and dropped unceremoniously to the floor.
“Fuck, that hurt,” I heard as I pulled myself to the nearest wall and wrapped my arms around my knees.
“ENOUGH!”
The power of the Alpha filled the room, and I involuntarily whimpered at the pain from the pressure to submit to it. The room went quiet.
“You have no Alpha, no heir,” he repeated in short, sharp tones. “All that is left of this pack is two wolves and a bunch of humans.” He spat, glaring at me. “And one of those wolves holds no respect for authority. And who is not much more than a pup, so traumatised by her past that she can’t even access her wolf.” I looked up in shock to see his eyes on me once more, this time with what looked like pity in his eyes. “And no, I do not consider your humans as part of the pack.”
I glanced over to Chase, who was standing there looking at me in shock. I didn’t know how the Alpha knew I didn’t have a wolf, but clearly Chase didn’t know that. Maybe now that he knew he wouldn’t want me after all.
Alpha Stone crossed the room again and leaned against the edge of the dining table, looking around at each of us, his eyes resting on me last. “You have lived among humans, lived like humans for too long,” he sighed.
“You have been unprotected for too long. It’s time I do what I should have done all those years ago.” He looked at me again with regret in his eyes before looking at Elaina and Jeremy.
“Maybe then this child could have got help sooner.”
He stood up straight and looked at me before turning to Jeremy.
“I think it is time,” and Jeremy looked at me and nodded slowly. I realised what was happening and jumped up.
“No!” I exclaimed, “Jeremy, please don’t do this,” Jeremy just looked away, avoiding eye contact.
“Please Kaeleigh,” Chase said, and I turned on him with a glare.
“This is what it comes down to, you self righteous prick,” I snarled. “I say no to you and you run to daddy and get him to fix your problems. You are really proving to be just like the others.” Chase looked hurt at my words, but I didn’t care.
“I swear, I’m just trying to protect you,” he insisted, and I felt anger beginning to boil inside me again.
“Protect me!” I snarled, “Is that what you were doing when you had your warriors try to drag me into a car last night?” Chase’s eyes widened in shock.
“What the hell, what warriors?” Jeremy demanded. “Alpha Stone, I agreed to talk about this, but not if you are going to attack my pack beforehand,”
“I did no such thing,” The Alpha growled and turned towards Chase, “Son?” That single word held so much weight, but Chase was already shaking his head, the look of anger on his face.
“I swear it wasn’t our men,” he growled, “I went to the bar with Jensen, but it was just the two of us,” his eyes widened again and he looked at his father again, “I got into a fight with some werewolves, they were from Crimson Shadow,” I saw similar reactions on Alpha’s, Jeremy’s and Elaina’s faces and looked between them.
“You see now,” the Alpha turned to Jeremy, “You see why this can’t wait,” and Jeremy nodded.
Alpha Stone turned back to Jeremy.
“I, Daniel Stone of the Dark Moon pack, request that you, Beta Jeremy Maxwell, acting Alpha of the Scarlet Circle pack, relinquish control of pack member Kaeleigh Buckley to my pack,”
“What, no!” I screamed and charged towards the Alpha, but once again the blond wolf had me around my waist and off the ground before I could take two steps. I kicked at him and punched and screamed for him to let me go.
The blond wolf tightened his hold on me as he leaned into my ear and whispered,
“Stop.”
But it wasn’t the word that stopped me, it was the power that rolled off him, that paralysed me instantly. Shit. I realised that I was messing with the Beta of likely one of the biggest packs in the world, not just another pack warrior. When he saw that I had stopped struggling, he lowered me to my feet and let me go, stepping back.
Alpha Stone turned back to Jeremy, who looked at me with an apologetic look and shook his head.
“I’m sorry, Kae, I really am,” he said before turning back to the Alpha.
“I, Beta Jeremy Maxwell, accept your request and relinquish control of Kaeleigh Buckley to the Dark Moon pack.” Tears rolled down my cheeks as I felt a snap in my body. I didn’t need confirmation that the feeling was the bond with my birth pack breaking. Even though we were technically rogues, I still felt the bond, until now.
I glared at Jeremy. How could he do this to me? He knew that I didn’t ever want to be in a traditional pack, and certainly not one that would likely be as strict as Dark Moon. I felt angry, I felt empty, and I felt betrayed. Most of all, though, I felt powerless, which is what I was. Or was I? I looked over at Chase, who was watching me with concern and grimaced. If I was going to be rejected from my pack, then I would be part of no pack, a true lone wolf.
“I Kaeleigh Buckley, declare myself a true rogue and reject Alpha Chase Stone as my-”
“NOOOOOOO!” Chase screamed and Alpha Stone roared. He stalked towards me and stood in front of me, the look of fury on his face.
“Submit to me now!” he roared, and I glared at him.
“No,” I whispered, and I saw something that looked like regret flash across his face before the anger came back.
“I really did not want it to come to this,” he growled. And then I felt it, the full force of his Alpha power forcing down on me. I screamed as the power ripped through me in painful waves.
“Submit!” he growled again as I fell to my knees.
“NOOO!” I screamed, part in pain, part in fear and part in anger. I could vaguely hear shouting and saw through the tears in my eyes that Tatum was in the room and screaming, although being held back by Jeremy. And Chase was fighting against their Beta. The power suddenly stopped, and I collapsed to the floor, panting.
Everything went quiet, and I felt a hand on my head. The pain disappeared and I looked up to see the Alpha kneeling in front of me.
“I know it seems wrong now, but I swear to you, child, that it is vitally important that you join with us,” he whispered.
“I’m not a child,” I muttered under my breath, glaring at him and I looked up to see the Beta chuckling. I shot him a dirty look, and he held up his hands in defence, clearly still amused.
The Alpha glanced up at his beta before looking back at me. “I swear to you now, if you submit to me, I will ensure we will find an answer for your absent wolf, and I will do everything I can to help you reunite with her.”
I blinked at him. He could see the pain that my lack of wolf caused me, more than anyone else had before.
“I have to protect my pack,” I whispered, and he shook his head.
“What use are you to them without your wolf?” he asked, and I sobbed, because I knew he was right. I was less than useless against our enemies, against the ones who had chased us most of my life.
“I swear I will help you to be strong,” he said, and I looked into his eyes. They looked just like Chase’s, right down to the gold star in the middle. I looked over at Chase, who was on his knees across the room. He was watching me with a desperate look in his eyes.
A cough from the other side of the room drew my attention. I looked over at Jeremy and he smiled at me. “Please Kaeleigh, be safe and I promise I will look after our other people. You have my word on that.”
I looked at Chase again and then back at Alpha Stone.
“I’m not agreeing to mate with anyone,” I said, and the Alpha chuckled.
“That’s acceptable,” he replied.
“What!” Chase exclaimed, and the Alpha held up his hand to him.
“You said you wanted to earn her love, well now you have the chance,” he said.
“Good luck man,” the Beta chuckled, and I glanced up at him and he winked at me. I couldn’t help a small smile. I could see so much Jensen in him.
“Kaeleigh?” the Alpha asked, drawing my attention back to him. “As a rogue joining our pack you will join as an Omega. Do you understand that?”
“Dad, no!” Chase exclaimed, which earned him a glare from his father. I looked at Chase and nodded before looking back at the Alpha.
“I understand,“ I said. Even losing my Gamma rank would be better than being tied to and controlled by an Alpha mate.
“Then I ask you again, will you submit to me as your new Alpha?”
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I nodded again and whispered, “I submit.”
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I was given two days to get my affairs in order before someone would arrive to pick me up to take me to my new home at Darl Moon. Tatum took things the hardest, and she shouted and raged for a whole day at her mum, at Jeremy, even at poor Luke, who was just trying to calm his sister down. I mostly kept to myself. I didn’t know how to feel. I still felt betrayed and rejected, but I knew that really Jeremy had no choice. He couldn’t have gone up against an Alpha as powerful as Daniel Stone. I had a feeling that Elaina, Jeremy and Jade felt guilty as well. I would walk into a room and they would all stop talking and either smile at me or avoid looking at me altogether.I just felt like crying. Everything in my life was changing. Pack life was so different from human life. I remembered bits from my early childhood and from the occasional visits to other packs. I knew that the majority of the pack lived in a ce
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Morning came and I couldn’t help but feel nervous about what the day would bring. Today I would be leaving my friends, the family I grew up with, and my life. I knew that by this time tomorrow, everything would be different.Elaina had packed the majority of my clothes but had left out a dress for me. It was a jade green skater-style sleeveless dress that had a delicate black lace pattern down one side and it brought out the green in my eyes. I left my strawberry blond hair loose and wavy as it fell halfway down my back.I walked out of my bedroom for likely the last time and into the main apartment. Elaina, Jeremy and Jade were sitting at the table, all silently drinking their coffee. They all watched me as I walked into the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. I turned around and looked at them as I drank. I didn’t know what to say. I don’t think they did either. I sighed and put the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)From what I knew, the Dark Moon pack was around 30 or so miles away, so it would only take us around an hour to get there. I watched the scenery out of the window as the cities gave way to the countryside. Most packs were pretty secluded away and protected from prying eyes, and around 50 minutes later, I could tell when we were getting close just by the lack of civilisation.Adam pulled into what appeared to be a private road that looked like it cut into the entrance of a mountain range. There was a tall black iron gate and a small gatehouse just inside. The gate began to open electronically, probably controlled by a guard in the gatehouse. When it had opened wide enough, Adam pulled the van through, and as we passed the gates, I felt butterflies in my stomach. This was it. We had arrived at our destination, my new home. Adam slowly drove the van past the gatehouse, stopping briefly and speaking to another guard, and
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I walked into the room with hesitation and was surprised to see Chase leaning against the back wall. He stood up and smiled at me. He made a move to step forward towards me, but I moved away from him. He stopped and looked hurt, but then nodded and stepped back again.“Welcome to the pack,” he said quietly and smiled. I forced a polite smile on my face, but I think it came out more as a grimace. The Beta closed the door and walked round to stand behind and to the right of the Alpha, his face completely expressionless now. The Alpha looked up from a file that he was reading from. “Ah, Miss Buckley,” he smiled. “Please take a seat.” He indicated another leather chair in front of his desk.I sat in the chair a
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“What offer?” My interest was piqued.“You will be assigned to work with Emmerson on the pack businesses,” he stated. I had a feeling that this was non-negotiable in his eyes, but it sure was going to be up for discussion with me. It seemed pretty suspicious that he would know about my involvement with Ezra’s and Jeremy’s business. I always made a point of not being mentioned or taking any credit for their business dealings. I just gave ideas. It was up to them to decide if they should act upon it. So for Alpha Stone to know that I was involved, no matter how small, made me cautious. Did he want me in the pack for something other than mating with his son? It would explain why he so readily agreed to my request to not be forced to complete the mate bond.
(Alpha Daniel’s POV)“Then I accept your offer.” Kaeleigh looked defiantly at me, but the look in her startling green eyes was that of defeat. I smiled and nodded.“Wise choice.” I said.I mind linked Sarah, my assistant, to send in the girl who had been waiting outside. Seconds later, there was a knock at the door.“Come in,” I called, and the door opened and a young woman walked in. She had her blond hair tied back and was wearing workout clothing that showed more of her body than it hid. She walked to the desk and bowed her head.“Alpha.”“Remind me of your name again, dear?” I queri
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“Oh, Kaeleigh?” I turned and glared at the Alpha. “Welcome to the Dark Moon Pack.”It took all the control I had not to tell him to go fuck himself, and to turn around and just leave, the smug bastard. I glanced at the Beta as I was turning and he looked like he was trying not to laugh. Well, he can go fuck himself too. Everyone in this hateful place can go fuck themselves for all I care. First chance I got, I was out of here! At least Chase had the spirit to look annoyed. I slammed the door shut in anger and Zoey jumped and looked at me in surprise. I guess I must have looked as angry as I felt because when I involuntarily glared at her, she winced and quickly averted her eyes before turning around and walking down the hall.Ah crap, first potential friend
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I stood outside Zoey’s room, willing myself to knock. I was nervous. I was never good at talking to people, but eventually I took a deep breath and knocked. And nothing. Oh! I turned to walk back to my room when I heard an excited squeal.“Kaeleigh!” Zoey had just walked round the corner with three other beautiful women. “You came. I wasn’t sure if you would.” She ran up and pulled me into a hug.“Girls, this is Kaeleigh,” she said excitedly as she swiped her card and dragged me into her room. I could see the other women exchange looks as they followed us in. Her room was, well, pink, like lots of pink, everywhere!Zoey introduced me to the three women. The petite blonde who looked like sh

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
