(Kaeleigh’s POV)
I walked slowly down the bar and stood in front of Jensen. I avoided the burning gaze of the future Alpha standing right behind him.
“Kae,” he said and went to reach out, but a growl behind him stopped him in his tracks. He glanced to the side, a hesitant look on his face, but then looked at me again with a bright smile. He put his hand in his pocket and took it out, holding something that he placed on the bar carefully, so he wasn’t too close to me. I looked down at the object and saw my phone. I picked it up and sighed. I didn’t need to look to see that it was blank. I had wiped it days before. But with a pack like theirs, probably not quick enough.
“Thanks,” I said and turned to walk away.
“Kae,” he said again, and I stopped.
“No Jensen,” I replied, “Please don’t,”
“We need to talk to you,” he urged, and I turned back to him to see both men staring at me with intense gazes.
“Jen, I have nothing to say,” I looked at the man standing behind him, “To either of you.”
“Kae, please,” Jensen begged, and I couldn’t resist the look in his eyes. He looked sad, and maybe a little lost. I sighed and nodded to Bobby, who had been hovering nearby. He nodded back and backed off. It looked like he was going back to his own business, but I knew he would be watching in case I changed my mind.
I nodded down to the edge of the bar, on the opposite end to the gathering of werewolves, and the Alpha who was pretending not to watch. I walked down slowly and Jensen and his Alpha followed down. I ducked under the bar end and waited for the men to come around the corner. This was as private as I was going to allow at this point.
“Kaeleigh,” the Alpha said as he stepped forward. I held out my hand and backed away.
“No, keep your distance,” I said. I could feel the pull of the fated bond, and I knew the closer he got, the harder it would be to resist it. He looked hurt, but stopped at my request.
“My name is Chase Stone. I am the future Alpha of the Dark Moon pack,” he said, his voice held a formal tone. I stared at him like he was an idiot, and Jensen rolled his eyes.
“She knows who you are, dumbass,” he said, and I couldn’t help but crack a smile.
“Well, I don’t know how to formally introduce yourself to your mate, do I?” Chase snapped, and I raised an eyebrow.
“We are not mates,” I said, and he frowned at me. “We might have the fated bond, but I haven’t agreed to act upon it,” I said and he took a deep breath.
“Do you know how difficult it is to find your fated mate?” he asked, and I nodded.
“I do. I also know that I have no interest in werewolf politics or hierarchy or any of that shit,” I said, “so don’t start peacocking your Alpha status to me either. At this point it’s a hindrance to you, not a benefit.” Chase looked like he was going to burst, although to give him credit, he was holding it in. Jensen, on the other hand looked like he was holding in his laughter.
“So what was so important that you pulled me from my work?” I asked, all innocently. I knew what was coming, but I could play dumb for a moment. Chase took another deep breath.
“You need to come to the Dark Moon pack straight away,” he said with a tone of command. “As my fated mate, you are in danger and I am sworn to protect you.” I rolled my eyes.
“I have been in danger for the past twenty-odd years,” I said, “And most of the time it has been at the hands of Alpha dicks like yourself. Why the hell would I trust you to protect me from anything?”
“Kae,” Jensen said, “He’s being serious, and I promise he is not like all the others that you have met. Chase is a good man.”
“Ha!” I exclaimed, “Seriously, Jensen, not like the others? So I didn’t see him kicking ten bells of shit out of you for no reason the other day?”
“That was different,” Chase snapped, “That was…”
“That was you being just like all the other self important egotistical, act first think never Alphas that I met,” I snapped back at him, “No thank you, I am even less interested in your pack rules and shit than I am in mating with a chauvinistic Alphahole like you,”
I turned to leave, and I felt his hand on my arm as he spun me around and backed me against the wall. His body was so close to mine, barely touching. But it was enough. I could feel the sparks of the mate bond between us, trying to pull us together. The world narrowed down to just him. His firm, muscular body and the scent of fresh rainfall and oak trees invading my senses so strongly that if I closed my eyes, I could have been standing in the middle of a forest. I felt my breathing speed up as I looked into his eyes. From this close, I could see that the amber held a gold star in the centre around his dilating pupils. I tried to look away, but I was caught in the depths in them. I held up my hand to push him away and the sparks almost knocked the breath out of me as my hand connected with his rock-hard chest. He reached up and covered my hand with his and I could feel his racing heartbeat under my palm.
“Please,” he whispered as he gazed into my eyes, “I promise, please let me prove to you that I am not bad,” I wanted to agree, everything in me wanted to nod my head and give in to the bond. I wanted so desperately to let him in but I knew that if I did for just one second that I would be lost. I wasn’t strong enough to resist, and I needed to get away from him as soon as possible. I took a deep breath and pushed against his chest as hard as I could. I didn’t know if he let me, or if he was surprised, but he stepped back with my push, allowing me to put space between us. I shook my head and stepped back towards the bar.
“I’m sorry,” I said to the hurt look on his face, “I can’t.” I went to duck under the bar again but felt his hand on me again.
“I won’t give up,” he said. “You understand that, don’t you?” I looked down at his hand on my arm, the sparks warming my arm and sending shivers through my body.
“It won’t be an issue by the end of the week,” I said and pulled out of his grasp.
“What do you mean?” his face twisted in concern and I was about to answer, saying it was none of his business when someone else came ambling around the corner.
“Hey,” the new werewolf called, “This is where you are. Hey guys, why are you hogging the hot rogue?” Both Chase and Jensen growled at him.
“Back off,” Chase growled, and I saw his eyes flash the Alpha gold.
“Seriously man,” the werewolf said, laughing, “I didn’t mean anything by it,” he then turned to me and grinned.
“If I thought you would have been entertaining sweet thing, I would have tried my luck weeks ago,” I would have responded with him having no chance, but Chase growled again and lunged at the werewolf. Another werewolf came flying over to help his friend against the furious Alpha, and Jensen soon joined in the rapidly escalating brawl. I took a second to watch in horror before ducking under the bar again. I noticed the Alpha at the other end of the bar waving to me as if a full on fight wasn’t happening right on the other side of the room. I headed down the bar with the odd look back at the fight. This Alpha threw me a charming smile as I got close to him.
“I thought it was looking intense for you down there,” he said, and my eyes widened in shock. I looked down and could see that he would have had a full vantage view.
“So I sent one of my men to create a distraction for you,” he smiled again, the charm oozing out.
“That was you?” I asked, and he shrugged.
“You can thank me another time,” he said “But if you want to make your escape, now would be a good time,” I saw Bobby looking over and I mouthed an apology. He just grinned and nodded his head towards the back entrance. I nodded a thanks as he headed with the bouncers to wade into the werewolf brawl.
“By the way,” the alpha said as I turned to leave. “My name is Asher Bowman, I am Alpha of the Crimson Shadow pack, if you need to hide from certain werewolves,” he nodded his head towards the brawl, “Then you are always welcome in my territory,” I forced a smile on my face as a thanks and nodded.
I turned and headed into the back and grabbed my coat and bag. I had already slipped my now useless phone into my pocket and I pulled it out and put it into the bag before heading towards the back door. I was still slipping my jacket on as I left the bar. I headed down the alley way to see two werewolves standing there. They were both dressed in full black and were tall and wide muscled warrior types. I could tell they had a military air to them. They both stood at attention when they saw me.
“Miss,” one of them said in a deep voice, “Our Alpha has requested that you join us in the car. He stepped back to a black SUV type and opened the back door. Great, Chase had guys waiting for me outside. This was just like an Alpha. Can’t take it when someone said no.
“No thank you,” I said with a forced smile. The other werewolf stepped forward and grabbed my arm.
“The request part was to be polite,” he growled. “It wasn’t a request, it was more of an order.” His hand closed around my arm and squeezed tight. He began to pull me towards the car and I panicked. I screamed for him to let me go, but he acted like he didn’t hear me. I did the only thing I could think of. I whipped my bag around as hard as I could and aimed for his face. I heard him swear as one of the buckles hit him straight on, but instead of pulling out of his grip I used I as leverage and swung around behind him. It twisted his arm back and he let go. I turned quickly and kicked as hard as I could, aiming for the money shot right between his legs. Luckily I was wearing my boots, so they made a nice impact. The warrior doubled over swearing, and I reached into my bag quickly and grabbed my body spray. I had it uncapped and sprayed it towards the other werewolf who was advancing on me. He screamed and covered his eyes as the spray hit him full on. I grabbed my bag and turned and ran down the street as fast as I could. I didn’t turn back to see if either of the brutes were following. I just ran. I had done some training with Jeremy growing up, but he had always said fighting dirty saved your life when you were against bigger and better opponents, and that was how he taught me. In this case, he was right.
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Nobody was up when I finally got home. Which was good. I was sweaty and exhausted and really didn’t want to answer any questions or cause any problems. I grabbed a quick shower and slipped into my room clean and fresh but still a little shaken. Was Chase really willing to go so far as to have men try to drag me into a car? If so, then he really was just like all the other Alphas. I normally hated moving, but this was the first time I would be happy to leave a place, and all its mess, behind.I slipped into bed and quickly fell asleep with thoughts of Alphas chasing me again. Soon enough, the familiar recurring dream started up. I was five years old, and I was terrified, running through the dark woods…My eyes flew open to full daylight, with the image of Jonathan’s dead eyes staring at me, accusing me of being the reason his life was cut short. I looked up at the black dress hanging up on the outsi
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“What the hell!” I exclaimed as I glared at Chase. I saw him glance at his father briefly before he looked back at me.“Kae,” I heard Elaina’s voice and glared over at her. She flinched under my look and I immediately felt guilty. I closed my eyes and tried to breathe out the sudden anger that was rising in me.“Kae,” I opened my eyes to Jeremy, who was watching me with concern.“Is what they are saying true?” he asked. “Are you fated to this man?” I glared over at Chase again and shook my head.“It doesn’t matter,” I said. “We are leaving soon,” I heard Jeremy sigh.“Kae, the fated bond is the most sacred and powerful of bonds,” he said. This was exactly why I didn’t want to tell them that I had met my fated mate.“Jeremy,” I turned to him pleading, &ld
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I was given two days to get my affairs in order before someone would arrive to pick me up to take me to my new home at Darl Moon. Tatum took things the hardest, and she shouted and raged for a whole day at her mum, at Jeremy, even at poor Luke, who was just trying to calm his sister down. I mostly kept to myself. I didn’t know how to feel. I still felt betrayed and rejected, but I knew that really Jeremy had no choice. He couldn’t have gone up against an Alpha as powerful as Daniel Stone. I had a feeling that Elaina, Jeremy and Jade felt guilty as well. I would walk into a room and they would all stop talking and either smile at me or avoid looking at me altogether.I just felt like crying. Everything in my life was changing. Pack life was so different from human life. I remembered bits from my early childhood and from the occasional visits to other packs. I knew that the majority of the pack lived in a ce
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Morning came and I couldn’t help but feel nervous about what the day would bring. Today I would be leaving my friends, the family I grew up with, and my life. I knew that by this time tomorrow, everything would be different.Elaina had packed the majority of my clothes but had left out a dress for me. It was a jade green skater-style sleeveless dress that had a delicate black lace pattern down one side and it brought out the green in my eyes. I left my strawberry blond hair loose and wavy as it fell halfway down my back.I walked out of my bedroom for likely the last time and into the main apartment. Elaina, Jeremy and Jade were sitting at the table, all silently drinking their coffee. They all watched me as I walked into the kitchen and poured myself a glass of water. I turned around and looked at them as I drank. I didn’t know what to say. I don’t think they did either. I sighed and put the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)From what I knew, the Dark Moon pack was around 30 or so miles away, so it would only take us around an hour to get there. I watched the scenery out of the window as the cities gave way to the countryside. Most packs were pretty secluded away and protected from prying eyes, and around 50 minutes later, I could tell when we were getting close just by the lack of civilisation.Adam pulled into what appeared to be a private road that looked like it cut into the entrance of a mountain range. There was a tall black iron gate and a small gatehouse just inside. The gate began to open electronically, probably controlled by a guard in the gatehouse. When it had opened wide enough, Adam pulled the van through, and as we passed the gates, I felt butterflies in my stomach. This was it. We had arrived at our destination, my new home. Adam slowly drove the van past the gatehouse, stopping briefly and speaking to another guard, and
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I walked into the room with hesitation and was surprised to see Chase leaning against the back wall. He stood up and smiled at me. He made a move to step forward towards me, but I moved away from him. He stopped and looked hurt, but then nodded and stepped back again.“Welcome to the pack,” he said quietly and smiled. I forced a polite smile on my face, but I think it came out more as a grimace. The Beta closed the door and walked round to stand behind and to the right of the Alpha, his face completely expressionless now. The Alpha looked up from a file that he was reading from. “Ah, Miss Buckley,” he smiled. “Please take a seat.” He indicated another leather chair in front of his desk.I sat in the chair a
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“What offer?” My interest was piqued.“You will be assigned to work with Emmerson on the pack businesses,” he stated. I had a feeling that this was non-negotiable in his eyes, but it sure was going to be up for discussion with me. It seemed pretty suspicious that he would know about my involvement with Ezra’s and Jeremy’s business. I always made a point of not being mentioned or taking any credit for their business dealings. I just gave ideas. It was up to them to decide if they should act upon it. So for Alpha Stone to know that I was involved, no matter how small, made me cautious. Did he want me in the pack for something other than mating with his son? It would explain why he so readily agreed to my request to not be forced to complete the mate bond.
(Alpha Daniel’s POV)“Then I accept your offer.” Kaeleigh looked defiantly at me, but the look in her startling green eyes was that of defeat. I smiled and nodded.“Wise choice.” I said.I mind linked Sarah, my assistant, to send in the girl who had been waiting outside. Seconds later, there was a knock at the door.“Come in,” I called, and the door opened and a young woman walked in. She had her blond hair tied back and was wearing workout clothing that showed more of her body than it hid. She walked to the desk and bowed her head.“Alpha.”“Remind me of your name again, dear?” I queri

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
