(Kaeleigh’s POV)
I applied the last of my makeup in the mirror while Tatum sat on my bed watching me. I glanced over at her and frowned.
“Don’t you have anything better to do?” I asked, and she grinned.
“Nope,” she said, “So when will we get to meet this guy?” she asked, wiggling her eyebrows.
“Why would you meet him?” I asked, “I told you, it’s nothing serious. And even less serious now that we will be moving pretty soon,” Tatum pulled a face. She hated moving around more than the rest of us.
“Tell me about it, I just want to put down some good roots you know,” she said with a sad look on her face, “I’m just hoping dad finds somewhere with a garden this time, my plants are dying out on that balcony,” Tatum was such a green thumb, she had been since we were young. The apartment was filled with plants, each one cared for by Tatum.
“I’ll keep my fingers crossed,” I said, and she smiled.
“So back to the Beta babe,” she said, and I groaned, “do you think he will ask this time?” she asked and I pulled a face.
“I sure as hell hope not,” I replied. Whilst I had been spending time with Jensen over the last few months, I was very aware that he seemed to have changed somewhat. He seemed more demanding for my time and quick to defend me when that bitch friend of his started with her shit talk.
“He said he wanted to talk to me about something important,” I said with a frown, and Tatum scrunched her face up.
“Yeah, that sounds like it won’t be fun,” then she perked up. “But what if he did ask you and then you could put down some roots yourself?” I shook my head. I had a strong feeling that Jensen wanted more than the arrangement we had, and he had alluded to me joining the Dark Moon pack before. I, of course, had no intention of doing that.
I hated packs and their structures, and wanted absolutely no part in them. Whilst we still considered ourselves the Scarlet Circle pack, our pack was long since dead. You can be the biggest pack in the world, but if you don’t have your own territory, then you were a rogue pack, and they were considered less than the omega rank in an established pack. The standard on rogues is that were we all loners, thieves, murderers and traitors. It wasn’t true. Some were, but some of us just didn’t want to be ruled, but one small group of people who seemed to inherit their rank and not earn it.
I sighed. I knew that the conversation was coming with Jensen, and when he brought it up, well, then I would have to permanently end things with him. I was kinda just hoping that it would be after Ezra found us somewhere new. Or at least I was in the last day or so. Telling Jensen that I was leaving town would have been way better than outrightly turning him down. But in true sod’s law fashion, he would want that conversation today. I was seconds away from cancelling on him, but I knew he would then attempt to come and see me at home, and I really couldn’t have that happen.
I looked at Tatum and smiled weakly.
“Aw don’t worry about it,” she said and jumped up and gave me a hug. “I mean, what’s the worst that can happen, right?” I hugged her back, and I guessed she was right. I had been mentally preparing myself for this for weeks. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t care about Jensen, but I had to keep myself at a distance. It was better for everyone. There was a knock at my bedroom door and I looked over to see Luke standing in the frame. Luke was as big as Tatum was tiny. The fact that they were twins was crazy.
“Hey,” Luke said with a smile, “I’m heading down to the pool to do some laps. Do you want a lift to your friends?” I smiled back at him.
“That would be great, thank you,” I replied and picked up my back from my desk.
“Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” Tatum called after me.
“Yeah, like that would cut much out,” Luke said with a laugh,
“Hey!” Tatum exclaimed from my room and he just laughed harder.
Luke and I headed down to the underground parking lot. I had my own car but rarely used it since I didn’t really go anywhere that wasn’t within walking distance. But Luke had to drive further a field for the good pool. I jumped into the passenger side of his car and pulled on my seat belt. Luke pulled himself into the driver’s seat and began cursing to himself while trying to adjust his seat. He shared the car with Tatum and they constantly bickered about each other messing with the seats and stuff. They had begged their parents for their own cars, but the only response was to get a job and earn the money for one. That was the only reason why I had my own car, because I bought her. Luke finally started the car once he was settled and began to pull out of the garage.
“What do you think of moving again?” he asked as he drove up the ramp. I shrugged in my seat and looked over at him. I could tell from his expression that he wasn’t so happy.
“It doesn’t affect me much, there are plenty of bars in places,” I said, “But I’m guessing you aren’t so happy about it,” Luke glanced my way and sighed.
“I’m just tired, Kae. I don’t know if I am actually happy or not. But we haven’t had a home since I was two years old. I barely even remember the old place, just snapshots. But I’m afraid to make friends, especially if they are going to be ripped away after a year or so,” I nodded. I could understand what he was saying. It was hard to make connections. I thought about Jensen and what he meant to me. Would I really be upset to leave him behind? I think I would.
Luke and I sat in silence for the next few minutes as he navigated his way through the streets towards Jensens apartment. He had dropped me off more than once, so he knew it well. He pulled into a side street nearby and parked up.
“Do you need picking up later?” he asked, and I smiled and shook my head.
“No I will be okay,” I said. “I can walk if needed,” and Luke nodded. He acted like such a big brother despite being three years younger than me, but I loved him for it. I reached over and gave him a hug.
“Go swim, little fish,” I said, and he grinned at the old nickname. He had always been attracted to swimming and at one point, you couldn’t get him out of the pool.
“I like to think of myself as more of a shark now,” he said, puffing out his chest, and I laughed.
“Yeah, but little fish is cute,” I replied, and he scoffed.
“Away with your insults, woman,” he said, and I laughed again. I unbuckled myself and jumped out of the car, closing the door. I waved as he drove away and waited until he was out of sight before I headed round the corner and to the front entrance to Jensen’s place.
The door was already opening as I walked up and I saw Jensen poking his head out. He smiled when he saw me, and I couldn’t help but smile back.
“Hey beautiful,” he said, running down the steps and kissing me on the cheek, “Glad you made it. I was sure you were going to cancel on me.”
“I said I would come, didn’t I?” I said with a smile, even though I was actually debating whether I would actually come or not less than an hour ago. Jensen took my hand and led me up the stairs into the main apartment building. I knew for the most part that it would be empty, with it being owned by the pack, but I was still wary about other pack members being here while I was here.
Jensen led me to the apartment on the top floor, which, of course, was the biggest, and took the whole of the top floor. The building was an old Victorian one, but the inside had been renovated in a full modern look, and was fresh and bright white everywhere. I dropped my bag by the door and headed into the living room. While Jensen headed to the kitchen. The first thing I noticed was the two wine glasses and the bottle of Sauvignon Blanc chilling in an ice bucket on the coffee table. I arched my eyebrows at Jensen as he walked into the room holding a plate of mini cheese pizzas.
“My favourite wine and my favourite snacks?” I asked, and he grinned.
“I like to think that I know you pretty well by now,” he said with a wink. He placed the plate on the table and sat down next to me on the sofa.
“Kae, I wanted to talk to you about something important,” he said, taking my hand. Oh shit! This was it. Well, best to get it over with quickly and put us both out of our misery.
“We’ve been together for a while now,” he said
“Well, we’ve been friends,” I corrected, and he frowned.
“I think you and I both know that we are more than friends,” he said, his voice losing the charming tone a little. Last month he had asked me to be his girlfriend, and I had tried to be nice when I said that I wanted to keep things casual, but he had still taken offence and then I didn’t see him for a week.
“Jensen please,” I said and moved in closer to him. If I could distract him enough so that he would forget the topic, then we could have a good evening. I leaned in and began to lay little kisses on his neck. I felt him react as I pushed my body against his. But then he groaned. “No Kae,” he said and pushed me away, “I need to get this off my chest.” I sighed at the determined look in his eyes. There was no getting around this.
“Fine,” I said, “Just say it,” he frowned at my tone again, but then shook his head.
“I want to petition Alpha Daniel for you to join the pack,” he said. And there it was. I knew this was coming, but I didn’t think that seeing the excited look in his eyes was going to be so hard. I sighed again. I really didn’t want to do this. But I knew I had to, because there was no way in hell that I planned to join the Dark Moon, or any pack for that matter.
“No,” I said with a firm tone. Jensen frowned again and huffed.
“What do you mean no?” he demanded, and I stood up, pulling my hand out of his.
“You know what I mean, Jensen,” I said, “You know that I don’t like packs or all the stupid rules you all have,”
“What stupid rules?” I could see he was getting annoyed.
“Oh, how about having to petition for me to join for one,” I snapped, “Or my favourite one. If you did petition him and for some reason your almighty Alpha allowed a rogue to sully the presence of his pack, then what would happen?” He knew what I was talking about, but just stood there, scowling at me.
“Yeah exactly, Jensen, I would be a lowly Omega, and I know what you pack people think of Omegas. You think they are there to clean your toilets and all your other shit,” I shouted. “Well no thank you. I have no plans to be yours or anyone elses servant.” I could tell I was getting angry, and I hated it.
“Well, it’s still better than being a rogue,” he snapped, and my jaw dropped. I stared at him, unable to believe what he just said. I turned around and walked out of the room, heading towards the door before I started crying.
“Hey where are you going?” he called, chasing me into the hall. He managed to get in front of me and stood, blocking the door.
“Let me out Jen,” I snapped, “I don’t want to bring you down by being near a dirty rogue now, do I?”
“Kae,” he said, his voice pleading, “Please, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it,”
“No Jensen,” I said. “That’s the problem, you did mean it. You all think such crap about rogues, and lump us all in together, but you don’t even know why we are rogues. Why don’t we just join a pack or why do we cling to the remnants of our old pack, despite it not being real anymore.” I pushed at him, the tears streaming down my face, “You just think we are all thieves and murderers, and something to step on.” I fling my bag back on the floor, “You don’t even get that my Gamma rank is the only connection that I have left to my parents, or that the Scarlet Circle pack is the only pack that I ever wanted to belong to because it was the one where all my family was.” Jensen gets a funny look on his face when I mention the name of my old pack and for a brief second I worry I’ve said too much. But then I guess it didn’t matter. We would be out of here soon enough.
“You’re from the Scarlet Circle pack?” he asked, his eyes widening, and I step back away from him.
“You know it?” I asked, and he nodded his head.
“Yeah, of course, I was almost ten when…” he trailed off and I nodded, knowing what he didn’t want to say.
“But I heard that nobody survived,” he said, and I lowered my head and kicked my feet in the air.
“That was the plan,” I said. “We wanted whoever did that to us to think they had won,” I sighed and looked up at him and shrugged.
“But I guess it doesn’t matter because it didn’t work,” he quirked his head to one side, with an unspoken question.
“They are still looking for us. That’s why we move around so much. Whatever those bastards want, apparently we still have and they are still coming after us for it.” I looked him in the eye. I guessed this was the best time to tell him.
“That’s why we will probably be leaving in the next couple of days,”
(Jensen’s POV) The first thing that came to me as I woke up was her scent. I opened my eyes and saw her fast asleep on the pillow next to me and smiled. Her features were relaxed and peaceful on her milky skin, and her beautiful light red hair cascaded across the pillow behind her head. I laid there next to her, just watching her. I could honestly stay like this all day. After our argument last night, and Kaeleigh’s devastating revelation that she would be leaving town soon, I didn’t know how to feel. My original plan was to tell Kaeleigh that I was going to petition for her to join the pack. I knew that she wouldn’t be happy about that part. But she had blown up about it so much that I hadn’t got to the best part. Once she turned twenty-five, then I would have been able to ask to have her as my chosen mate. It was an old rule that we had to wait until
(Kaeleigh’s POV) “Oh my God!” The door to the bedroom had just burst open and the most amazing scent of oak and rainfall slammed into me, and through me, intoxicating me, and sending my mind into overdrive. Then I heard one word! “MINE!” And everything crashed into place. It was like suddenly a piece of me had been missing and I didn’t even know it was missing until now. I could have lived without knowing that piece, but now that I knew about it, there was no way I could consider an existence without it. I looked up at Jensen, who must have realised what was happening. “Oh, fuck!” he said and then he, and the covers, disappeared into a blur. I felt the chill of the lack of his warm body as I heard the crashing to t
(Chase’s POV) “Dammit!” I looked up and down the street, but she had already disappeared. I could try to chase after her, but I didn’t even see what direction she went in. I headed back inside and took the stairs two at a time. I needed to find out where she lived and I needed to get to her. I walked into the bedroom to see Jensen still sitting on the floor. I winced at the sight of the bruises, and his already swollen eye. Now that I wasn’t under the fog of a possessive jerk, I felt bad. I went to help him up when the image of him naked in bed with my mate flashed through my mind, and I growled without realising. “Whoa!” Jensen said, pulling his hand back. He glared at me and I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. It wasn’t helping. I was on edge. Not only seeing them together infuriated me.But now my mate was running around the goddess damn city unprotected. “Listen Chase, I didn’t know. You know that…” He trailed off
(Alpha Daniel’s POV)I nodded to my son as I saw the worried expression on his face. I knew he was concerned about the danger that his mate would be in if the wrong person found out about it. But for now we would have to put that to one side as we had more pressing, although strangely connected matters to deal with.Chase sat back in one of the chairs opposite me and Jensen glanced over at him from the other. I watched as Jensen nodded, obviously satisfied that his best friend, and soon to be his Alpha, was happy to put the matter of his mate to the side for now. He sat back himself, although winced and shifted in his chair.“After this, go get checked out at the hospital,” I ordered, and he glanced at Chase before nodding. I wasn’t too worried. As werewolves, we healed quickly and he would probably be back to full health in a couple of days, but if any bones were broken and healed out of place, they would nee
(Alpha Daniel’s POV)“What?” Chase exclaimed before turning to face me. I could see the concern etched on his face.“Dad!” he exclaimed, and I nodded and held up my hand.“Well, this just got more complicated,” I said and Alrik scoffed.“Complicated doesn’t cover it.” he said, and I glared at him before carrying on.“At least we know where to find her,” Seth offered, and I grimaced. At least there was that, but I knew that group. I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t disappear at the first available chance, and then Chase would be frantic with worry. And rightly so, the poor girl wasn’t just in danger from the damn curse, but also whatever had been chasing her pack her whole life. “Wait,” Chase’s eyes suddenly lit up with excitement, “You’re saying Kaeleigh is from the Scarlet Circle pack?” and Jensen
(Chase’s POV)I left my dad’s office and headed up to the top floor to my room. I started to change my top but realised that the one I was wearing held my new mate’s scent. I wasn’t ready to let that go just yet. I checked in on my little sister, Ivy.“Hey,” I called as I knocked on the door. I opened it to see that she was alone and tapping away on her laptop.“What’s up?” she asked, pulling her headphones off. “Your meeting finished already?” I could tell by the bitter tone in her question. I knew she wanted more to do with pack business, but dad was very protective of her. He even declined her request for warrior training when she turned eighteen, which pissed her off for months. Dad was an old-fashioned Alpha and an Alpha’s daughter was the princess, and as such was treated as so. Even if she didn’t like it.“Yeah, for now,” I said. I
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I sighed as I hung my coat and bag up in the staff room at The Cove. I had missed the last few shifts after finding out about Ezra’s accident. I couldn’t bring myself to leave the apartment and had spent the last three days on the sofa with Tatum and Luke just watching movies and trying to process what had happened.I wanted to be there so much for the twins, but Ezra’s death had brought back feelings of loss from my own parents and we had all ended up just supporting each other through our grief. The twins had probably fared better than me. Luke was mostly silent and just went with the flow. He had the occasional outburst but would then be back to his cool, calm self. And Tatum was a rock for everyone. She switched between being with us and helping Elaina with the funeral arrangements.I, of course, was a big mess of emotions, dealing with that and the revelations of not only finding my
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I walked slowly down the bar and stood in front of Jensen. I avoided the burning gaze of the future Alpha standing right behind him.“Kae,” he said and went to reach out, but a growl behind him stopped him in his tracks. He glanced to the side, a hesitant look on his face, but then looked at me again with a bright smile. He put his hand in his pocket and took it out, holding something that he placed on the bar carefully, so he wasn’t too close to me. I looked down at the object and saw my phone. I picked it up and sighed. I didn’t need to look to see that it was blank. I had wiped it days before. But with a pack like theirs, probably not quick enough.“Thanks,” I said and turned to walk away.“Kae,” he said again, and I stopped.“No Jensen,” I replied, “Please don’t,”“We need to talk to you,” he urged

(Kaeleigh’s POV)*** Two Weeks Later ***I stood on the stage at the former Dark Moon and now Dark Circle pack territory and looked out across the crowd. I felt warmth rush through me as Chase squeezed my hand beside me as we waited for the crowd to quiet down. The crowd was a mix of werewolves, witches and hybrids, although the latter were massively outnumbered by the first two. The last two weeks had been crazy busy as we worked to create some sort of order in everything. The battle had ended in our favour, but we still had losses. I had been upset to learn from Jensen that Zack’s mate had been expecting and watching as she received the news that she had already felt was heart wrenching. I had been told that the death of her mate had sent her into shock. This wasn’t uncommon, as the separat
(Kaeleigh’s POV)I clung to Adam as I screamed for help. There was blood everywhere, and his eyes were fluttering. Dayna was crying.“Why can’t I do anything?” she screamed. “Adam I mean it, don’t you dare die on me, not when I have just told you I love you.” I looked up at her in shock and she looked at me, tears streaming.“Kaeleigh, tell him he can’t die. We agreed. We are choosing each other as mates. He has to live.” She shook Adam as his eyes closed. “Kaeleigh, order him, please,” I shook my head and looked down at Adam in my arms.“Why did you do something as stupid as that?” I cried at him and his eyelids fluttered open again. He looked up and smiled.
(Asher’s POV)“Well, look what we have here,” I snarled as I walked into the clearing. “If it isn’t my not so loyal Beta.” I had seen Cade just as he had snapped the neck of that imbecile Fischer. As I got closer, I saw him holding his mate. I watched them as he comforted her. He was so gentle and caring. Before her, Cade had been a different sort. He had always been ready for a good time with the supply of Omegas that we kept around and I could pinpoint to the day that he had met his mate. Everything changed. He stopped drinking as much, stopped going out. He disappeared on weekends on private business.I got why. A fated mate is an awful weapon in the wrong hands and my father had taken a dislike to Cade pretty much after his own father had left the pack. If my father had known that Cade had found his mate, he would h
(Zoey’s POV)“I gotta go,” I hissed, watching the blond streaks as they flashed through the woods. “I got a score to settle.” I started walking towards the last place that I saw the bleached blond trash. I could feel Cade’s presence behind me. I wasn’t sure whether he was there to protect me or to protect her at this point.I woke up crying almost every night after reoccurring dreams about what she did. Dreams that repeated over me held in silver chains and her smirking face as she… I shuddered at the thought of it. I had never been so violated before in my life. I still struggled with intimacy with Cade. The irony of the fact that for the first time in almost five years I could be open and not hide my love for my mate and yet I couldn’t stand to be touched by him. Cade had tried to talk to me about w
(Jensen’s POV)“My Hero,” Tatum grinned at me, and I couldn’t help but grin back.“Yeah, well, let’s not need that anymore,” I said as I helped her to a sitting position.“What about Jeremy?” Tatum asked and Elaina called over from where she was sitting next to the unconscious wolf.“He’s gonna be fine. It’ll take some healing, but werewolves do that quickly.” I looked at Tatum, who looked relieved.“Where’s Luke?” Tatum asked, looking around.“Your brother is as silly as you are,” the other witch, who I was unfamiliar with, said, glaring at the entrance to the n
(Tatum’s POV)I rushed into the entrance of the nook where I could see the evidence of magic flying around everywhere. I knew Jade and Luke were close behind. I surveyed the area and saw Chase on the ground next to a big black wolf and a woman with jet black hair. The woman was tending to the wolf as he laid on the floor, panting. At the other end of the nook I could see the redhead witch Isabella and my mum. There was a redheaded man standing between me and them and from the magic he was using, I could tell he was a sorcerer. I glanced at Luke, who nodded and he cast a slow down spell. While he did that, I felt for my new-found powers and sent out energy, or whatever it was, to the surrounding trees asking them for help. I felt the connection and began to bend the trees to my will.Jade appeared as well as Jeremy and I grinned. The sorcerer, on the
(Kaeleigh’s POV)“ATTACK!”I watched as thousands of bodies appeared from the surrounding area, some in human form, some in wolf. They reached the outer edges of the town in a matter of seconds, so they must have been in the immediate area and the woods surrounding. I drew my eyes back to Asher who was watching me with an intense look. He smirked as his eyes found mine and then pulled his shirt to reveal the mark again.I rolled my eyes before closing them and blocking everything and everyone around me out. I envisioned my army of wolves, the symbol of my Alpha power and the reason I would never bow to anyone. I pulled the energy from that power and pulled it in tight. The tension alone was enough to make me feel like I was going to burst. I opened my eyes, knowing that right now they shone g
(Kaeleigh’s POV)Three hours later, a now mobile and newly sealed Cade was sitting on the sofa in the living room with Zoey on his knee and I was inspecting Tatum’s wrist. She and Jensen had emerged from his room a few minutes before and Tatum was jumping around excitedly. They had completed the bond last night and through the night Tatum had completed the transition into a Hybrid, much in the same way as Chase had with me. I looked at the pattern that had formed on her wrist and saw it was an extension of Jensen’s pattern. I smiled. I still didn’t know how everything worked, but I was loving finding out.“Oh, and watch,” Tatum said, suddenly very excited. She turned and looked around and then focused on a dying houseplant that a scowling Luke was standing by. She walked over and placed her hand on the soil and, slowly
