Chapter 36: No Sense of Gratitude

I stared at Hover, horrified.

His fingers, icy cold and trembling, still gripped my ankle. His once strong and commanding presence was now reduced to a desperate, broken shell.

I hesitated, my mind racing.

Hover was Torres’s most loyal guy. He did some shitty things to me. He caught me while I was trying to escape, brought me to Shadow Valley and helped Torres kept me here. He was one of the enemies.

But on the other hand…he was kind of nice to me.

He told me news about Gray. He protected me from Nigel’s harassment. He did everything he could to make sure that I lived with dignity.

And according to Torres, he was punished because he stood up to Torres’s tyrant, saying that he wouldn’t let them set me up like that.

So in a way, he did end up like this because of me.

Hover’s eyes were filled with pain and desperation. They locked onto mine as I pondered.

“Help... me,” he gasped again, his voice barely audible over the rain.

My mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions.
