Chapter 39: New Friend on the Road

Regina’s POV

I knew that those people at the market might tell on us.

But I didn’t know the soldiers would come this fast!

Hover’s eyes widened with anger.

“We need to move, now!” he said urgently, grabbing my arm, and turned to the old man. “Come with us!”

“No! I will only slow you down! Hurry, leave! I know where to hide!” The old man waved his hand and disappeared around the corner.

We darted towards the car, but the soldiers were closing in fast, their shouts growing louder.

I could heart my loud heartbeat as I ran. Every second stretching into an eternity.

Just as we reached the car, a spotlight from one of the vehicles swept over us, illuminating our faces.

“There they are!” a voice yelled. “Get them!”

Panic surged through me. We were trapped!

I fumbled with the keys, my hands shaking. “Come on, come on!” I muttered, desperately trying to start the car.

Hover scanned our surroundings, his face set in grim determination.
