Chapter 14

Shawn's mouth twitched slightly.

He realized he had overreacted, almost like he’d confessed to something without being asked. He silently scolded himself for losing his composure.

Raising a hand, he rubbed his temples and spoke gently, “I just didn’t want you to misunderstand, that’s all. If you want to sleep in the guest room, then you can do as you please. Once you’ve recovered, we can sleep together. Hannah, we have plenty of time ahead of us.”

They had a whole lifetime, at least fifty more years. He wasn’t in a hurry at all.

He watched as Hannah hugged her pillow and left.

Fifteen minutes later, Shawn received a call from Denise. “Shawn, it’s all my fault. Is she still upset?”

Having just dealt with Hannah, Shawn felt a bit annoyed with Denise. But hearing her voice, full of self-blame and on the verge of tears, he couldn’t help feeling a pang of guilt.

He sighed, his tone gentle. “It’s not your fault. How’s your injury?”
