The clouds were dark, the wind was too much not talking of the cold but he wasn't back. Ariel kept on looking through the window if his car was coming in that she forgot her pain, then rain started to fall adding to her worries.
She wore her slippers and headed downstairs, maybe she can get a way of finding him on phone. If not for anything, the fact that he has been treating her well made her worried about him.
Everyone was asleep so she sat on the couch and picked the remote. It was almost midnight and the rain had reduced when she heard a car enter the compound and she yawned getting up from the couch, she was so tired and needed rest to help with her cramps.
She headed to the door and opened just as he was looking for his keys. He was soaked with water that the water was dropping from his clothes.
"Welcome," she said stepping aside for him to come in and he just nodded.
He was trembling from the cold and his shirt was stuck on his body, revealing his six packs.
He looked like someone in so much pain and as he got to the stairs, he stopped and touched the metal.
"Are you okay?" Ariel asked and he turned to face her. He may be having convex lens but you couldn't miss the sadness in them.
She touched his hand and he was burning with fever. His neck and other hand was burning to, she couldn't check his face as he had this mask that she hated so much.
He didn't seem ugly infact despite the mask, he was still handsome.
"You have fever," she commented.
"I'll be fine," he responded in a low voice.
"You helped me earlier, allow me help you," she requested and he nodded.
She helped him upstairs to his room and picked dry clothes for him from the closet.
"You need to change into this immediately, since you don't have the energy to walk, I'm going to the bathroom to get water and a towel once you are done just tell me,"
It took a while for him to change the wet clothes considering how he was feeling but once done he laid on the bed and didn't call her.
She waited, got impatient and opened the door. She shrugged seeing him on the bed after all they are not so good of friends.
She took care of him till the fever went down then went to the kitchen to prepare some soup for him and fed him.
"Thank you," he muttered.
"Welcome," she responded covering him with the duvet.
"I'll be in my room, if you need anything, let me know," she added.
"You can sleep here if you really care about what happens to me,"
"Once you are strong we start arguing about it, no, I don't want that. Have some rest," she turned to leave but he got hold of her hand.
"My mind hasn't gone nuts, I know what I'm saying right now and I won't argue about it. Husband and wife share the same bed, am I right?"
It may not be the first time for her sleeping beside a man the only difference he won't cuddle her like Jayden did.
Talking of Jayden, how could he be? Maybe right now he is cuddling Beth. Thinking about that made some tears find there way out and she quickly wiped them away walking to the other side but he saw.
"Have I done anything now?"
"No it's not you, have a good morning rest. It's one already," she shrugged getting on the bed.
"You remembered your boyfriend?"
"If you are still not okay when you wake up, I'll call the doctor," she said a different thing and faced the wall in tears.
"Maybe I should get a phone and call him to explain?" She thought to herself.
The only place she heard something like this happen was the movies and novels but happening to her? She didn't think she will ever get over that.
"Ariel," Damian called and she turned immediately wiping her tears.
"Is the fever high again?" She asked.
"If you loved your boyfriend that much, why did you agree to this?"
She chuckled bitterly at his question.
"You won't believe if I tell you I didn't agree because you think I forced myself to you. It's unfortunate that my mom never takes a no for an answer and she always finds her way. It wasn't bad after all, if this didn't happen I won't have known that my boyfriend and best friend always go behind my back. Sleep, you are not so strong,"
"I should sleep when the one beside me is in tears?"
"I'll be fine, this is my fate," she shrugged.
He sighed, she reminded him of someone really close whom he ignored her tears and ended up losing her.
He wasn't sick, too much rain poured on him at the graveside leading to him catching cold and the fever, but that matter, he has gone through more than that in life. He is used to pains and agony and has the perfect mask for all that, a cold personality.
"He used to kiss you and cuddle you to sleep," he raised his brows and she sat up.
"I'll cuddle you, imagine it's him and sleep," he said lightly like it was nothing and she chuckled.
She is indeed dealing with a psychopath, he is crazy. How on earth is he planning to take Jayden's place?
"I can promise, I don't bite," he pulled her closer and she laid on his chest though scared.
"Why are you sometimes so cold and sometimes so kind?" She asked.
"Have a good rest," he whispered and closed his eyes.
Being her turn to take the dirty clothes from his room, Lena knocked on the door several times that she got tired.
"Maybe he is not in and I'm wasting my time," she told herself and pushing the door she noticed it wasn't locked from the inside as she had thought but getting inside she got the greatest shock of her life.
They were in bed sleeping tightly as she boiled in anger. That should be her in his arms, but somebody came from nowhere and took her place.
Lena was the only daughter of the Dean's family and after reading too many novels and watching too many films coming to work in his house was the only thing she could think of.
On coming she met Ivy in the picture and had to change her plans to get him, that was how she had to be friends with Ivy. Everything was falling into place day after day till the marriage stuff came into the picture.
All she had worked for is now crumbling. She worked hard something she never does all her life she always had workers at her call but she had to stoop to their level and work her way to be among the trusted workers in the house.
She couldn't hold the tears again and they came flowing down.
"I'll protect you," Damian said in his sleep and Lena heard it.
It felt like her heart was tearing apart. She walked to the laundry bucket, took the clothes and walked out with them in tears bumping into Fiona who was coming out of Ariel's room.
"Good morning Lena," Fiona greeted and noticed her tears.
"Lena what happened? Are you okay? Are you sick? Are you hurt?" Fiona asked concerned.
"I'm fine," she wiped the tears away quickly ready to leave.
"When you want to talk, you can count on me. Have you seen Ma'am Ariel?"
"They are in bed," she said bitterly.
"Love birds, I should look for my own man before I get old. Who knows how it feels to be cuddled to bed every night? Have you ever been cuddled to bed? Wait have you ever fallen in love before? It must feel so good, right?" Fiona said happily.
"Not now Fiona," she complained.
Each word Fiona said was like a burning nail on an open wound and all she wanted was to walk away.
"You are such a kill joy, let's talk later," Fiona stepped aside for her to take the stairs.
Opening his eyes, Ariel was there beside him. For the first time in a long time, he didn't have a nightmare of what happened that fateful night.
He kissed her hair, slowly rested her head on the pillow and got down as she opened her eyes as well.
"Good morning," she greeted sitting up.
"I'm sorry for disturbing your sleep, go back and sleep,"
"How are you feeling now?"
"You slept late, you had stomach pains yesterday, I'm fine the fever is gone, go to bed," he pleaded but she just stared.
She was sure his time of changing into this cold person was almost, the clock was ticking and she wanted to leave before time elapses.
Breakfast was brought to his room and they both had breakfast there even though she didn't eat freely, she quite of felt a bit safe with this side of him. "It's getting late, you should go to work already," she urged putting together the dishes to take them to the kitchen. "I'm not going to work, are you feeling strong? I want to take you somewhere," "I don't mean to be rude to you but did your fever get into your head?" She questioned. If the sickness got into his head then he needs urgent medical attention before he loses his mind. "Meaning?" "You want to take me out, it sounds like a sentence in a soap opera right? What if we get there then you remember we are to stay in our lanes?" She arched her brows and he sighed. "We are still in our own lanes, and about arguing while there, then I promise not to argue with you today so can we go?" "Can you remove the mask, I want to see the face of the person I'm going to walk with just Incase things g

"I don't have time to waste," he replied in a cold voice and she slowly walked to him. His voice alone scares her and the thought of her spending even a month let alone a lifetime, scares the hell out of her. She never thought her mom was heartless till yesterday, maybe she never really loved her as she claimed. After he was done she slowly walked to the bathroom not uttering a word. He picked back his laptop as his phone started to ring. He sighed, just the person he wanted to talk to at the moment. "Dad of all women in this world you picked this crazy one as my wife?" He questioned raising his voice which attracted Ariel. She walked to the door to eavesdrop to the conversation. "You should be grateful to her. Because of her accepting to marry you the Lillard group of companies will be handed to you as the new director," His dad replied. "I'm supposed to be worshiping her now? Let's make something straight dad, I don't love and will not love her so stop i
"Come in," Jayden replied after the knock was planted on the door. Beth walked into the room with a tray of food and placed it on the lampstand. "I cooked and it would be bad if I eat alone and not share with you yet I used your things to prepare the food. I didn't cook much but I will appreciate if you have a taste," she said with a smile. "I'm not that hungry, I ate at an eatery on my way home," he told her. "The more reason why I served just a small portion of the food. I knew you must have planned yourself, just have a taste please," she pleaded. "If that will make you happy," he shrugged and took the tray. It was dark but the lights in the compound somehow covered everything up. She would be lying if she said didn't have fun because she had fun. After going round the market, they finally got what she was looking. With Fiona everything is worth the risk, they decided to the park to have fun had some ice creams then went to an eatery to have a nice meal.It has been long since she came to the eatery but it was the best eatery while she was growing up and will still be the best not forgetting the cheap price. Fiona enjoyed the meal that they lost track of time. Both of them were laughing remembering what happened in the eatery when they got into the house but Fiona smile faded off immediately.
