"I'm sorry for yesterday," Ariel apologized standing at the door but he didn't utter a word, he headed to the bathroom instead.
"Back to normal," she muttered sitting on the bed.
Yesterday he was so calm, kind and gentle that she almost mistook him for someone else. He took care of her and stayed with her at a hard time.
He walked from the bathroom and sat next to her.
"Whatever I did for you yesterday doesn't mean anything, I guess you still know what we talked about yesterday in the morning," he spoke and she nodded.
There was no way she was going to forget they are to stay in their own lane. She got up and walked out. Her heart was still aching and she didn't have the appetite to have breakfast so she locked herself up in her bedroom crying.
After preparing himself, Denzel left to sort out some matters and came back after two hours. As he was about to take the stairs, the still set table caught his attention. Breakfast had been set for Ariel and he expected to meet the table clean but seems like someone didn't have breakfast.
"Fiona," he called out and she rushed from the kitchen.
"What is this?" He asked pointing at the table.
"Ma'am Ariel didn't come down for breakfast and I tried knocking but she didn't open the door. I was giving her time before I knock again,," she replied.
"Is it cold already?"
"No, I have just warmed it few minutes before you arrived,"
"Carry it and come with me," he instructed and continued with his journey.
He walked to his room, took the spare keys and opened her door.
"Fiona, I'm not hungry and I don't want to talk, please," she begged not looking up.
"Place the food there then leave," she heard Denzel's voice and stood up wiping her tears.
"Fiona, you said you are my personal maid and you take instructions from me, please take this food away," Ariel told her and she was confused.
She didn't want to offend either of them. Neither did she want to be in the middle of a couple's fight.
"Are you deaf? What did I say?" Denzel asked in a cold voice, she quickly placed the food on the lampstand and rushed out leaving them to solve their issues.
"Never be a third party between married people," Fiona remembered her mother's advice some years back after the issue in their neighborhood.
They used to argue daily causing a commotion in the whole neighborhood then one day Mrs. Doreen decided to go and help but the tables turned around and they ended up insulting her.
Every time she remembers that incident, she finds herself laughing though that time it was not a laughing matter.
"What again?" Ariel asked.
"I have stayed in my lane, why not stay in yours and leave me alone," she added.
"Eat," he didn't reply but said a different thing.
"I'm not hungry, I don't have the appetite,"
"I also don't have an appetite, that balances everything so let's have breakfast," he suggested sitting on the bed beside her.
"What do you want from me? Why do you like playing with my mind?"
"Are we having breakfast or not?" He arched his eyebrows.
Irritated she got up to serve the food for them to eat though in her mind she had so many questions. Was she by any chance dealing with a psychopath or something? One minute he is nice to her the next minute he wants her to stay in her own lane.
She didn't repeat the same mistake as last time at least she didn't give him 'remains' as he calls it.
"How are you feeling?" He asked as they ate.
"Are you a psychopath? One minute you are nice the next minute you are cold are you sure you are fine?" She asked back.
"You think I'm crazy? Should I treat you the same way I treat the workers or maybe one of the call girls?"
"I'm not your worker nor your call girl,"
"I knew it like yesterday so just take whatever way I treat you depending on the mood," he shrugged and she just nodded.
Silence reigned for the rest of the meal and he walked back to his room. Fiona came in to pick the dishes and to apologize.
"I'm sorry for earlier, I didn't mean to disobey you just that I can't risk my job, I'm the breadwinner in my family," Fiona pleaded.
"It's okay I understand,"
"There is a big problem and we really need your help,"
"Fiona I only came in and there is nothing I know, I can't promise to help but let's hear it out,"
"My friend Nora, was ironing the master's clothes and she can't explain what happened but his favorite shirt was burnt. He just sent for someone to get the shirt for him because he wants to go out," Fiona narrated.
"How do I come in? We don't get along with him that well because he orders everyone around,"
"Help us beg him, please,"
"What? Fiona, I can do anything but you of all people know that he won't listen to anything I say,"
"Right now I know she is heading to his room or maybe she is there already,"
She stared at Fiona and felt pity, seems like they were all scared of him and she too was but she should at least try something.
"It's better to die in the battlefield," she thought to herself.
"Okay, let me see if she will even listen to what I have to say," she walked out of the room.
Seeing her one may think she is courageous but deep inside her heart was thumping so fast.
The door was slightly open so she just found her way in and on the floor Nora was kneeling, crying and begging.
"I said get out," he said in a cold voice with no sympathy.
"Please ma'am, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to, I can't lose my job, this is my only source of income for my two kids please help me,"
"Go back to your duty post," Ariel spoke without thinking and he looked up face her but didn't say a word.
"Thank you, thank you so much," she appreciated and Ariel helped her up leading her to the door then locked the door.
She was expecting anything from him but didn't want to involve any other person especially the maids.
"She is my employee, you don't know what she did, why did you do that?" He asked calmly surprising her.
She was expecting more considering the cold aura that was in the room when she arrived but seems like he wasn't going to kill her so they can talk.
"What did she do?" She asked calmly maintaining a distance between then just Incase things don't go well she can jump out before he gets to her.
"She burnt my shirt, and I need to go out, happy now?"
"But killing her won't bring back your favorite shirt will it? I can get you a shirt same as that one. Give me the one she has burnt and I will use it to get a similar," as she finished speaking she remembered the money she has in her account is not even enough for one meal in a cheap eatery let alone his shirt.
"I told you your mouth will land you into trouble some day," her subconscious mind reminded her and she sighed.
"You want to replace it, interesting, but it's not about the shirt, I can get any shirt that I want it's how special the shirt is," he stood up with the shirt handed to her and headed to the bathroom.
"How is it special?" She remained behind asking herself.
Looking at the shirt it didn't seem that expensive, she actually thought if where she could get the shirt at such a cheap price but it's unfortunate she can't make it special.
She was sure he could buy such a cheap shirt with all the money he has, it only means maybe he was given by someone special but who could it be?
Every minute she spent in that house, she got more confused and things got more complicated making her more curious to find out more about him.
Going back to her room, Fiona had a first aid box with her.
"What happened, are you okay, were you hurt?" She rushed her questions and Ariel sighed.
"What is that for?" Ariel asked pointing at the first aid kit.
"When Nora left the room and explained to me how angry he was I blamed myself for sending you and so I got this to nurse your bruises,"
Ariel laughed.
"It's okay I'm fine, I want to go to the market in the evening to get a shirt same as this,"
"I know someone who sells good shirts at affordable prices. I can take you to her and see if she can get something close to that, as can't get a replica," Fiona said and she nodded.
"I'll finish what i have to do today then we can go," she added and left the room with her first aid kit.
It was dark but the lights in the compound somehow covered everything up. She would be lying if she said didn't have fun because she had fun. After going round the market, they finally got what she was looking. With Fiona everything is worth the risk, they decided to the park to have fun had some ice creams then went to an eatery to have a nice meal.It has been long since she came to the eatery but it was the best eatery while she was growing up and will still be the best not forgetting the cheap price. Fiona enjoyed the meal that they lost track of time. Both of them were laughing remembering what happened in the eatery when they got into the house but Fiona smile faded off immediately. "Where are you coming from at this time?" Damian's cold voice made them stop on their track and Fiona hid behind Ariel. "From the market and it's only eight not that late," Ariel shrugged. He got up and took the stairs not uttering a word. Nora and Lena whispered to themselves both s
Not being able to hold herself she got up. "I'm sorry but I'm not feeling so fine, please excuse me," she bowed and slipped through the door as fast as she could.Thankfully she saw the bathrooms at the far end, she touched her stomach and started walking towards the bathroom. "Since everything is done and we have reached an agreement, the meeting is over, excuse me," Damian got up and rushed after her. "He ran to her and got there before she reached the bathroom," "Use that," he handed her his jacket. "Why?" "You are on your menstrual and technically you have stains on your dress," he said bluntly. "What! I'm so sorry for embarrassing you. Go back to the meeting, I will be fine," "I'll take you home," "No, I have to go to the mall," she winced in pain. With each passing minute, the pain increased and she nolonger had the energy to stand. "Sure, let's go," he helped her to the elevator and she didn't put up a fight, she didn
The clouds were dark, the wind was too much not talking of the cold but he wasn't back. Ariel kept on looking through the window if his car was coming in that she forgot her pain, then rain started to fall adding to her worries. She wore her slippers and headed downstairs, maybe she can get a way of finding him on phone. If not for anything, the fact that he has been treating her well made her worried about him. Everyone was asleep so she sat on the couch and picked the remote. It was almost midnight and the rain had reduced when she heard a car enter the compound and she yawned getting up from the couch, she was so tired and needed rest to help with her cramps. She headed to the door and opened just as he was looking for his keys. He was soaked with water that the water was dropping from his clothes. "Welcome," she said stepping aside for him to come in and he just nodded. Breakfast was brought to his room and they both had breakfast there even though she didn't eat freely, she quite of felt a bit safe with this side of him. "It's getting late, you should go to work already," she urged putting together the dishes to take them to the kitchen. "I'm not going to work, are you feeling strong? I want to take you somewhere," "I don't mean to be rude to you but did your fever get into your head?" She questioned. If the sickness got into his head then he needs urgent medical attention before he loses his mind. "Meaning?" "You want to take me out, it sounds like a sentence in a soap opera right? What if we get there then you remember we are to stay in our lanes?" She arched her brows and he sighed. "We are still in our own lanes, and about arguing while there, then I promise not to argue with you today so can we go?" "Come in," Jayden replied after the knock was planted on the door. Beth walked into the room with a tray of food and placed it on the lampstand.
