CHAPTER 4

—MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH—

That night, I was the first to head to our room. I was too exhausted from my earlier trip, so I decided to rest early. Liam and Grandpa stayed behind in the veranda, chatting. I stopped listening because they were discussing the company, and I would have felt out of place if I stayed.

I decided to freshen up before bed. I've been feeling sticky since earlier and was uncomfortable. I grabbed a clean towel from the closet and headed straight to the bathroom. I let out a slight gasp as the cold water from the shower hit my skin. We're in a cold place, so it's no wonder the water feels icy. I adjusted the water heater to a more comfortable temperature. I'll just take a quick bath so I can rest right away.

As I stepped out of the bathroom, I was shocked to see Liam standing there shirtless. I also noticed his slight surprise when he saw me wrapped in just a towel. I quickly turned away from him, overcome with embarrassment and shyness.

I completely forgot that we're supposed to share a room. How could I be so forgetful?

"I-I didn't know you were already here. I thought you'd be coming in later," I stammered, still turned away from him. Why am I so flustered? It's just Liam, but... those six-pack abs are a surprise! I had no clue he was working out. Has he been hitting the gym regularly?

"Turn and face me, Maggie. I don't like being turned away from while we're talking." He said in an authoritative tone, so I slowly turned to face him, tightly clutching the towel wrapped around me. This is awkward, and I'm worried the towel might fall off. And to make matters worse, I'm not wearing any underwear!

"Why are your eyes closed? Look at me." I faced him, but my eyes remained shut. How could I possibly open them, when his, ahem, "buns" are right in front of me? And they're quite... distracting!

"C-can you put on your shirt first?" I asked, still keeping my eyes shut.

"Why? Are you tempted?" He asked with a sly tone. I felt my cheeks flush, as his voice sounded ridiculously sexy. Is he flirting with me? Or is he just testing me to see if I'll fall for his seductive voice?

"Let's just say, I'm trying to keep things polite and respectful." I replied in a calm and composed voice. "One more thing, would you mind giving me a few minutes alone? I... I just need to get dressed." I couldn't see his reaction to my response because I kept my eyes shut. I only felt the door open and close, signaling that he had left.

I gradually opened my eyes, and upon seeing that Liam was gone, I let out a deep breath and felt a wave of relief wash over me.

After getting dressed, I opened the door to call out to Liam. I caught him just as he was finishing a phone call.

"Ah, Liam, you can come in now." I informed him. Without waiting for his response, I re-entered the room. I sensed him following me from behind. I was wearing a pair of pajamas, and I could feel his gaze on my back, so I quickly made my way to the bed and lay down.

He excused himself to take a quick shower, and after ten minutes, he emerged from the bathroom. This time, he was only wrapped in a towel, revealing almost his entire physique! His muscles were so chiseled, they seemed almost perfect. His wet hair gave him a sultry, seductive look that would make any woman drool. I felt so lucky to have such a handsome husband!

"It's rude to stare, you know that?" But how did he even know I was staring at him when he was slightly turned away from me? I quickly covered myself with the blanket, overcome with embarrassment.

"Hey, Maggie." I felt the bed sink beside me. Liam must have finished getting dressed. I could also smell the sweet scent of soap on his skin.

"Still awake?" I remained silent, waiting for him to continue. "I'm sorry about earlier. I said too much, and I regret it. I'm sorry." His apology caught me off guard, filling me with a sense of happiness. I hadn't expected him to apologize; I was the one who should be saying sorry. But instead, I stayed quiet, anticipating his next words.

"We're sharing one bed now, so you must behave, okay? Good night."

"Good night, Liam." I whispered to myself, certain he wouldn't hear me since my voice was barely audible. At last, I could finally sleep soundly tonight.
