CHAPTER 3
—MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH— Sitting on the bus, my mind began to wander. Had I overreacted? Was my response justified? But how could I blame him, really? He didn't know me, not personally. We'd only met once, briefly, when we were kids. I doubted he even remembered. He didn't know where I lived or anything about my life, and I knew just as little about his. His words stung, but he was only being truthful. Should I give him the benefit of the doubt? Perhaps he hadn't intended to cause harm. I exhaled deeply, realizing I was the one in the wrong. I shouldn't have abandoned him. As a wife, I should be more mature and understanding. Our conversation was just beginning, so it was natural for him to express himself honestly. Maybe this was all part of the process of getting to know each other? Maybe he was simply too blunt? As soon as I get to the mansion, I'll apologize to him. I was so foolish! I let my emotions consume me! As I stepped off the bus, I pondered how to reach the mansion. Since it's close by, taking a tricycle seemed like the best option. I've been there multiple times, so I'm familiar with the route. However, due to the traffic, it took me until noon to get there, and hunger started to kick in. Luckily, I stumbled upon a fishball cart, and I headed straight for it. As I was eating my third piece of kikiam, someone suddenly grabbed my arm. I quickly looked to see who it was, and I was shocked to see Liam. "What are you doing?" he asked, his brow furrowed. "Ahh, eating kikiam?" I replied, unsure why my response was met with laughter from the others who were also eating. Even the vendor couldn't help but crack a smile. Liam and I exchanged confused glances, and we chose to ignore the commotion. "Stop eating that, it's dirty. Let's go," he said, his words followed by a sudden tug on my hand as he pulled me away. I was caught off guard, leaving my food behind as he dragged me along. He led me to the car, opening the door and practically pushing me inside before closing it firmly behind me. "Why didn't you head straight to the mansion?" I asked, puzzled. Considering how long my own trip took, he should have arrived much earlier, especially since he could have taken the shortcuts. "Would you like Grandpa to ask questions about why you're not with me?" he asked, his voice firm but controlled. I bowed my head, choosing to remain silent. The rest of the ride to the mansion was spent in an uncomfortable silence. As we arrived at the gate, Grandpa was already waiting for us, a warm smile spreading across his face as he saw Liam and me together. Despite being 74, he looked remarkably youthful, as if he had shaved a decade off his age. It was a testament to the rewards of a healthy lifestyle. "I'm so glad you're here! How was your trip? Did you get tired?" Grandpa enthusiastically greeted us. Liam responded. "We had a fantastic drive, Grandpa," he said with a smile. "Maggie and I chatted nonstop, so the time flew by." It was a blatant lie, but he delivered it convincingly. To make matters worse, he wrapped his arm around my waist, his palm resting against my skin. The warmth of his touch sent a shiver down my spine, and my heart began to beat erratically for reasons I couldn't quite explain. "I'm thrilled to see you two getting along so well," Grandpa said with a hearty laugh. "But I'm even more eager to meet my future grandkid!" His words made me blush with embarrassment, while Liam's smile turned awkward and he nervously scratched the back of his neck, as if trying to brush off the sudden discomfort. "Don't worry, Grandpa, we'll get to that soon. Work has just been keeping me really busy," he said, fabricating an excuse. But I knew better. Everything we'd present to him here for the next week would be nothing but a carefully crafted illusion. "I know you're busy, grandson, which is why I wanted you and Maggie to take a break and spend some time together here. Now, come on in, lunch has been waiting." He beckoned us inside, and we trailed behind him. As we stepped into the kitchen, the mouthwatering scent of adobo enveloped me, and my stomach growled in response. I hadn't eaten enough earlier, so the aroma only intensified my hunger. "The dish smells amazing," I said warmly, and was rewarded with Grandpa's gentle laughter. "I knew it was your favorite, so I made sure to cook it," Grandpa said, beaming with a warm smile. "Adobo's your favorite, huh?" Liam whispered, but Grandpa still managed to hear him. "Didn't you know?" Grandpa asked, puzzled. So I intervened before he could start questioning Liam further. "Ah, Grandpa, the thing is... Liam thinks sinigang is my favorite dish. That's what I told him, anyway. I never got around to mentioning adobo. Hehe." I fibbed. A quick glance between Liam and me was all it took to convey our mutual understanding. After all, we'd never shared a meal together before this morning, so he had no idea what I liked to eat. "Is that so? Okay, let's eat then! I know you're both hungry." We quickly sat down in our respective seats across from each other and started eating. While we ate, we simply listened to Grandpa's stories. Words of wisdom, reminders, and other advice for a happy married life, which we just tolerated. "That's why I'm telling you now, start making a baby! I'm not getting any younger, grandchildren. We don't know how long life will last. What if I die tomorrow or the day after without even getting to hold my grandchild?" That was his sermon. "Please don't talk like that, Grandpa. You're not going to die yet." Liam said seriously. It was clear in his eyes how much he loved and cherished his grandfather. "I'm getting restless. I'm eager to show off my future grandchild to my friends." "Let's take things slow, alright, grandpa?" Si Liam. Grandpa's only response was a deep, heavy sigh. I could feel his frustration emanating from it. It's a painful realization, but if Liam ever has children, I probably won't be their mother. The thought itself is heartbreaking, but it's inevitable, given that we'll be going our separate ways. °°°F.G°°°CHAPTER 4—MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH—That night, I was the first to head to our room. I was too exhausted from my earlier trip, so I decided to rest early. Liam and Grandpa stayed behind in the veranda, chatting. I stopped listening because they were discussing the company, and I would have felt out of place if I stayed.I decided to freshen up before bed. I've been feeling sticky since earlier and was uncomfortable. I grabbed a clean towel from the closet and headed straight to the bathroom. I let out a slight gasp as the cold water from the shower hit my skin. We're in a cold place, so it's no wonder the water feels icy. I adjusted the water heater to a more comfortable temperature. I'll just take a quick bath so I can rest right away.As I stepped out of the bathroom, I was shocked to see Liam standing there shirtless. I also noticed his slight surprise when he saw me wrapped in just a towel. I quickly turned away from him, overcome with embarrassment and shyness.I completely forgot
CHAPTER 5—MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH—I felt an intense, heavy sensation. It was as if something massive was weighing me down. I couldn't move either, feeling as if I was tied up.My eyes snapped open to find Liam's face mere inches from mine, his features soft in slumber. I was shocked to discover why I couldn't move: his arms were wrapped tightly around me, holding me close. His leg was even draped over my hips, pinning me in place. And in that moment, I also realized that I was clinging to him just as tightly!I distinctly remembered him putting a pillow between us as a barrier before dozing off last night. But now, it was nowhere to be found! It seemed he'd gotten comfortable enough to think I was the pillow! He looked utterly relaxed, snuggled up against me.But I have to admit, being in Kevin Liam Anderson's arms felt unexpectedly wonderful. I found myself wondering if he'd ever had a girlfriend before. It was hardly unlikely, given his captivating presence and stunning looks. He w
—MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH—In three days, Liam and I will be heading back to our home in Manila. Everything has gone smoothly between us during our stay here so far. I'm happy here as long as Liam and I are together. I've suddenly felt his presence in my life as my husband. When we were at home, we rarely saw each other, so I guess that's why I didn't feel like I had a husband. I even thought that maybe he was intentionally locking himself in his room to avoid me because he doesn't like me. But now? I don't know.Things are happening too fast if he's going to suddenly like me, right? I love the idea, but I can't read his mind, so I have no idea what's going on.Maybe I'll just take advantage of our time here in the mansion to get to know each other better. Yeah, that's exactly what I'll do!"It's getting cold outside, grandchild. Why haven't you gone inside yet?" I looked back when I heard Lolo Enrico's voice. It's already mid-November and the wind has a chilly bite. Actually, I've been
—MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH—"I'm hungry." Liam announced as we entered the house. He still had his arm around me, and he was the one who placed my hand on his waist. The household staff of Grandpa were thrilled to see us in that intimate pose. How am I? Well, I'm still wondering about Liam's behavior. He's never been like this with me before. When he'd come home in the past, I was practically invisible to him. It was as if he didn't even see me."Aren't you eating yet?" I asked. Usually, when he comes home from work, he eats out."Not yet," he replied briefly."Okay. Wait here. I'll cook something for you," I said, pointing to the sofa in the living room for him to sit while he waits for me to finish."I don't want food," he said, causing me to stop in my tracks and furrow my brow as I turned back to him. I was suddenly confused about what he wanted. He said he was hungry, but now he doesn't want food. What does he want, then?I stared at him intently and only now noticed something unusu
—MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH—Liam threw himself on the bed when we got to the room. He must have been feeling terrible."I-I'll go get some porridge. It's probably ready by now." I said goodbye. I was still hesitant whether I should go out again or not. I felt like I couldn't face them anymore because of what they witnessed."No need. Just help me take off my shirt. It's hot in here." I swallowed my saliva twice because of his request. Here we go again! Should I comply?"O-okay. I-I'll help you with that." In the end, my obedient nature prevailed. I think it's normal, anyway, since we're married. But, the first time is always the hardest, so my hands were shaking while I slowly unbuttoned his long-sleeved shirt.I thought he was already asleep, but I was startled when he suddenly gripped my hand tightly as I was about to pull off his clothes."Enough. Go to sleep now, Maggie." I noticed the tightening of his jaw and his deep breathing. Is he mad? Why did his mood suddenly change? He could

I couldn't believe it when I received a text message from the current president of Anderson Company, Mr. Enrico Anderson, Liam's grandfather.I just met Mr. Anderson by accident when I bumped into him at the supermarket. I know who he is because I often see him in business magazines. I was looking for the dairy products section and didn't notice him, so I apologized profusely for my clumsiness. I thought he'd get angry, but instead, he just smiled at me. I was even more surprised when he asked for my number. CHAPTER 1—MAGGIE ELIZABETH SMITH—"Come in," Liam replied emotionlessly when I knocked on his door, which was slightly ajar. I had brought him a hot cup of coffee. He had just come home from work and gone straight to his room."Hi." I greeted him with a wide smile. "I made you a coffee. Here, while it's still hot." I offered."Thanks, but I already had coffee earlier before I came home," he said without even looking at me."Are you busy?" An obvious question, but I still asked. He couldn't seem to take his eyes off the papers that maybe needed his signature. He's been working all day, but even here at home, he's still working."Well, obviously, yes." I thought so. "Do you need anything, Maggie?" For a moment, I was fixated on the coffee in my hand. What I really wanted was to have a conversation with him while he sipped his coffee. I was curious about his day – if it was good, or if something had gotten under his skin. The kind of topics couples usually discuss."I... Just want to—"

It used to be easy for me to accept the idea that we'd eventually part ways, but now it's different. The thought hurts. Are my efforts to win his heart still not enough?"Hey, Maggie," he called out, and I turned to face him."Yes?" I replied, forcing a smile despite the ache within me."What are you thinking?" His inquiry was unexpected; I'd never seen him take such interest in my thoughts. Perhaps he's just trying to pass the time, as the long drive to the mansion was starting to feel tedious. I decided to take advantage of the moment and chat with him."Hmm... I'm just thinking about Grandpa Enrico. I miss him so much." I said, even though that wasn't what was really on my mind."It seems you're quite close to him. Did you know him long before our wedding?" he asked."Not really. He'd often visit the café
