ALEXANDER'S POV

We drove past a lot of markets, bazaars, and shopping complexes at the normal hour of the day. It would take a person even on a two-wheeler at least 20 minutes or even more to drive past these areas. The traffic was beginning to form for the day. At 7:30 a.m. there is a quietness prevailing in the entire area. Two or more street dogs can be seen near the garbage heaps looking for crumbs thrown by the people the night before. One or two auto rickshaw auto rickshaws flying on the road.

It seems people traveling by rail or bus have moved out early from their houses to catch their transport well in time. Near a crossing, we were lucky to escape colliding with a car moving at breakneck speed. I was sitting at the back of my car as usual.

Suddenly the driver screeched behind us. He swerved the car to his left and missed hitting us by a few inches. I yelled a few mouthful of obs mouthfuls at him and at the same time thanked God that I was safe. The hospital was just around

HELENA'S POVI knew from the start that Alex and I would pull through all of these storms. This was a minor game and I was certain we would win at the end. Every day I wake up in this mansion and feel the need to help, stay and fight for what rightfully belongs to me. Sophia had no place and she is the obstacle I would start with. It's been Two days since Alex went for the appointment for the DNA test. He had given me detailed information about how the appointment went and how Sophia suddenly became uncomfortable around him. Even though I was sure that the child is t for Alex I still wanted to see the defeat on her face when we would all finally see the result. I wasn't going to back down on tracing her and revealing her schemes. Nevertheless, I told them to think of ways to track her moves secretly. It's 4:50 pm, the evening is night and the sun is beginning to diminish gradually. I sat in the garden scrolling through my phone. I searched a couple of tens on the internet for any in

HELENA'S POV.I was sitting patiently waiting for Alex to return from work before going on my little dinner meeting with Sam.I was exhausted and fatigued but that didn't matter at this point. I had a whole shark to devour and I needed to execute that mission as soon as possible. It was a few minutes past six and Alexander had not returned. It was not so normal for him to come home so late at night. He was the kind of man that goes home immediately after he's done with work. I had no idea what he would want to eat when he got back. I called Maggie up to my room to go fix something to eat while I got ready for my appointment. I sat behind my dresser and stared blankly into the mirror. The red dress looks perfect on me. It was a red strapped dress and I always wore a coat over it. I searched my closet and pulled out my long coat. It had black and white petal patches on each side of the coat. It was my favorite coat. I slipped my hands into it and wore my shoes. Exactly how I wanted t

ALEXANDER'S POV. I took a stroll out in the words. In the early hours of the evening at 6 pm. Walking and humming sweet lyrics to myself. The dry leaves ruffled under my feet as I crushed them through each step with my shoes. I had walked half a distance deep into the woods when I began to see shadows lurking behind the trees. At first, it was one but within the twinkle of my eye, I had been surrendered by armed men. I couldn't move at that point. I became suddenly cold in the feet as a bead of sweat began to form heavily on my face. "You can't run away from me" the. The voice spoke out deeply. Each word echoed till it faded completely into the night.Who are you?" I queried."You know who I am, '' the man responded behind his mask. He had a dark mask on. I could only see his red bloodshot eyes from the tiny opening of the mask. I knew he had a gun but the best way to fight a battle was to be on the offensive and so I pulled out my little behind me but before I could even pull th

HELENA'S POVI watched him flounce himself upstairs. I had the conviction to follow him but dismissed the thought and obeyed as he had said. I quickly picked up the bag he had dumped on the ground and packed up the items that had fallen out as he angrily threw the bag down. "My Steak," I said when I found it in the other bag. I sighed letting out deep relieving breaths and went over to the couch and sat. This was my time to enjoy myself. I also needed to be left alone. Nobody's anger was going to get to me. I had promised myself a few months ago and I wasn't willing to break that promise to myself. He was angry at whoever. I didn't care but why would he vent it on me? I pondered the reason for his anger and added one or two sentences from what I could make out of the words he spoke before he snapped. I quickly opened the steak and began to dig from it. Just the perfect taste as I wanted it. I had gotten so engrossed in my food that I was almost unconscious of my environment. The c

  • AGAINST THE TIDES   Chapter Seventy Two

HELENA'S POV Just when I thought everything was going well. Even though we've had a series of clashes in the previous months. I had enjoyed only a few days of happy and quiet moments. Triumph usually comes after a war and so I believed that despite the feud my family is facing, if Alexander's we will both triumph at the end. I had slept over the reason why Sophia and Alexander's mother are bent on kicking me out of the house. For Sophia's plans, I have no idea but I knew she had some form of hidden agenda especially when I caught her bribing the doctor. That was by the way. It's been a week since the DNA test was conducted and we waited patiently for it. Since I had Sam working on Sophia's case I quickly indulged him to do a little digging into Alex's mother. Sam works with the FBI and tracing or tracking anyone shouldn't be a problem for him. The next time I met with him at our usual spot I had relief that he had a little news to give me. He had told me that Sophia was Derego's l

ALEXANDER'S POVAs we waited for the person to come in. I looked straight at the door with my eyes shining as bright as a new fire burning in the summer. It took a deep relieving breath when the person finally walked in."Mom". I called out and got up almost immediately."What are you doing here?" I asked as I motioned to meet her."Am I no longer welcome here too?" She asked to study everyone's faces. I blinked and twinkled the corner of my eye at her. It was a signal to let her know our matters and the rift between us at home shouldn't be discussed before our associates. She got the sign as usual"I didn't mean it that way, I mean you should have called."This is my company too" she reminded me as if I was some new staff member. I acted like we were cool and nothing ever happened between us a few days ago."Gentlemen, she greeted the other men seated after she had acted like no one else existed in the room except me."You're welcome, Mrs. Stone. They said in unison. She pulled out

  • AGAINST THE TIDES   Chapter Seventy Four

ALEXANDER'S POVA day had gone by after I had that lengthy meeting with my partners. I had quickly gone on Channels Tv to apologize for the misconduct and violent activity I was involved in.I did it to defend myself I had said. And I made sure it was recorded clearly. The WWBAT had called in a few days ago that I tendered an apology for acting like a child in public thereby defiling the award and recognition conferred on me some months ago. The award brought me lots of contracts and foreign clients I must say. And if I still wanted to stay at the top I must tender an apology to superiors in the game. I didn't hesitate to do that. I assigned the task of drafting a good and convincing apology letter to James, my assistant, who did a great job at making sure that my apology letter had so much remorse in it. I was to read it before the entire cabinet. Hurriedly I did what I had to do before the entire house and I was freed. Not from my rival but from the only organization that would det

My decision to stay and fight with aAlex despite the feud and hatred going on in our families was a strong courageous step for me. It took the bones in my body all it needed to strengthen me on that decision. Every other plan I made to uncover the truth was hidden from him except for the DNA test suggestion which of course he had to know of because he would be fully involved in it. Detective Sam was doing a good job especially after I told him of Gabriel's confession about constantly seeing Sophia with a certain man and when I asked him to give me vivid descriptions it fell again on the same man Don Derego. He has come to stay I think- he's stuck like a plague; a cankerworm and wants to eat gradually yet deep into the marrow. I walked over to my bathroom for the next chapter of my morning routine, it was a ritual i never missed; i brushed my teeth, washed my face and showered. I grabbed the outfit i put together last night and got dressed in it. My hair and makeup are always the last on my list as i do not want any colours or powders spilling on my dress. I wore my dress shortly after and took my time to do my makeup so it's out finely each time. I nodded at the superb job and examine it on the mirror dresser. I finished my look with a high ponytail, and heels whic

HELENA'S POVAlex and I continued to dance. We swerved in the same rhythm for about fifteen minutes after taking our vows. This was an awesome moment for me. I knew life would be much easier and smooth now that we have done things the right way. Alex was hard-working and I too gradually grew into a great woman. For my company at least a year I should be able to boast of twenty to twenty-five employees. I had a few contracts I needed to close after the entire celebration."Have I told you you are beautiful?" Alex asked him. His hands were on my waist."Do you mean today?" Yes,"Well, you haven't told me that today"."Helena Alexander Stone".I blushed. My cheek burned. I pressed MY cheek against his chest. HELENA'S POVTwo weeks later I had suddenly become friends with my best friend's girlfriend Cherry. Cherry would be the sister I never had. She did everything with professionalism and the fact that she would be my best friend's wife in a few months makes me want to draw her to me forever. We've had a few dinners at home together and she has always helped with picking out the best decor and designs we would use for my big day. I have known her only a few weeks but I must say that she is truly an angel. Gabriel needed a woman like her around him. She is so re-spirited and loving that I wished she was my friend from the very beginning. She sure knows her job and does it with so much enthusiasm. "With the way you vibe so much with your event planner, one would think you too have been friends from Genesis" Alex had told me on one of the days I was so excited talking about how good she is with her job and how I couldn't wait to see all she was going to do at the wedding. • AGAINST THE TIDES   Chapter One Hundred and Three

HELENA'S POVI slept off on Alexander's chest. This has got to be the most horrible night of my life. I was exhausted by the time the sun hit my face from the window. Baby Zahir was awake too. He gave me a welcome smile. I pinched his little cheeks softly and then I suddenly remembered that we had spent the night at the hospital. Alex was awake all through. I was sure he was finally swept off by sleep at the very nearly hours of the morning after being a strong watch to me and the kids. On this part, I was vulnerable and soft. I could barely take good care of myself and talk more about adding extra humans to my list. My hair was a mess. Erect like grasses of the field the strands stood. "Good morning my love," Alex said and kissed me on the cheek. "Good morning baby" I kissed back. Then I realized I had been sitting on his lap for a long time. I got up and proceeded to check Zayn a bit. To my greatest surprise, the young man was fully awake. He has changed mine for today I don't k

HELENA'S POVI managed to stay calm. With Bella by my side, I was sure I would be strong through the process. She held baby Zahir while I paced the private room back and forth waiting for the doctors to come with feedback or something we can hold as the sole cause of this sudden illness. We've been in the hospital for about forty-five minutes. Alex showed up just in time. I was holding my little boy's hand when he pushed the door softly and peered his head into the room. He searched it to be sure he was in the right room before coming in. I took in a deep breath of relief and walked over to him. I buried my head in his chest as he hugged me. His cologne, a scent I was already used to replenishing my nostrils left me with a sense of protection and hope. I was more than happy he had shown up even though the results of the numerous tests would be available.Thank God you're here". I told him. He quickly ran his hands on my shoulder and kissed my head."I ran here as soon as a store call
