View More“And why aren't you yet ready for your date?” Jax asked as I walked out of the room.
I raised my brow, looking down at myself- at the red gown I had on.
What does he mean not ready?
“What are you talking about? I am ready.”
He scoffed, “Okay.”
“If you've got anything to say, fucking spit it out.”
Jax sighed and dropped the book he was reading on the table to face me.
“Today is your two year anniversary, and if my guess is correct, you suspect that your boyfriend is gonna propose today.”
I nodded with a grin, the thought sending butterflies in my belly all over again.
“Not just suspect. I saw a ring with him a few days back and he's been acting so weird so yeah - I know for sure that he's gonna propose.”
Something flashed in Jax's eyes but disappeared so quickly, I thought I must have imagined it.
“Okay. And you are going, in that?!”
I looked at my dress again, “I do not understand what you mean. This happens to be one of my favourite dresses. Roy got it for me some months back.”
“And this man claims he loves you? Honey, that's a hideous dress.”
I rolled my eyes, “fortunately for the dress and I, we do not need your opinion. I love the dress and I'm going in it. Besides, I do not have the time to change.”
Jax tilted his head and looked at me from head to toe with a frown that really got to my nerves.
“This is possibly gonna be the best day of my life and all you can do is criticise me?” I pouted, “what kind of a best friend are you?”
“The kind that loves you enough to tell you the truth, sugar. You are dating the Alpha's son for fuck sake. Please try to look more presentable.” He shook his head, “I've asked you countless times to allow me to work on your wardrobe.”
“Absolutely not! Forget about it because I'm very satisfied with my wardrobe and guess what? So is my mate. Now with that being said, I'll be on my way. Do you have any boyfriend visiting you tonight?”
Jax gasped and placed a hand on his bare chest, “what do you take me for? A whore?”
I chuckled, “one has to wonder.”
“Wait!” He called before I could leave, “I'll let you go in the dress but…I have something that will make it prettier.”
Before I could ask - he dug his hand into his Jean pocket and brought out a tiny box, a jewellery box.
My hand went to my lips, “Jax Anderson, you are not planning to propose to me are you?”
“You wish! I know I'm a way hotter shot than your mate, but you are simply not my type, no offence.”
I laughed, but the laugh quickly died in my throat when he opened the jewellery box.
It was a necklace. And simply the most beautiful one I've ever laid my eyes on.
“Oh my -” I gasped, taking it out from the box.
The pendant was a breathtaking piece, a silver dragon coiled gracefully around a stunning sapphire-blue crystal.
I dangled it in my fingers, marvelled as the intricate scales gleaned, catching the light with every movement, while its wings, detailed and delicate, seemed ready to unfurl at any moment.
The dragon’s tail wrapped elegantly around the crystal, giving the piece an ethereal quality.
“This is so…beautiful. I've never seen anything like it before.”
“I had it custom made,” Jax said, taking it from me and motioning for me to turn around so he could put it around my neck, “I know how much you love reading about dragons.”
I really did.
My eyes gleamed with unshed tears when the weight settled on my neck spreading beautiful shivers down my spine.
“Thank you so much Jax.” I said and meant it. When I turned, Jax was looking at me with a very strange expression.
“You deserve the world, Selene.” He murmured his finger trailing down my cheek. There was something in his deep gaze that held me transfixed. It was like he was staring deep down into my soul and searching out dark secrets.
The short spell was broken when he smiled, “You will be late to your date.”
I forced out a laugh and kissed his cheek awkwardly before leaving the house.
When I closed the door behind me, I took a sharp breath in.
Jax is gay. I reminded myself.
Jax is gay, and you have a mate whom you love.
Then why have I been having these feelings for him for the past few days?

“You are late!” Roy snapped the moment I sat my ass down on the chair and I smiled.
“I'm sorry about that. I got caught up in a few things.”
“You got caught up in a few things that were more important than being on time when I clearly asked you to? Do you think I have nothing better to do too?”
“I'm sorry,” I said calmly, “it will not happen again, but I am here now.”
“There are some bad habits I wish you would have discarded a long time ago once we started dating, Selene. I know you really know nothing about what it means to be from a higher social status, but I'm the future Alpha. Everything you do, as my girlfriend reflects on me. Good or bad. The life you live, how you talk.” He took a deep breath and shook his head, “and honestly you haven't been doing a good job.”
Yeah, yeah.
“Forgive me. I promise I'll try to do better from now on.” My smile was still on my face, because I really had zero strengths for another of his temper tantrums, but Roy wasn't done.
“I will be ascending as the alpha, the next full moon.” He announced and I gasped.
“Oh my! Really? Congratulations! I'm so happy for you.”
“It's not a big deal,” he waved his hand in dismissal, “it's my birthright.”
“Of course.”
I was starving. Really starving but I dare not mention food when Roy is talking about something so important. So I ignored my discomfort and focused on listening to him and appearing attentive.
“As the alpha, I will be expected - it's my duty to have a partner, a Luna who's strong. Who understands what it means to be a leader. Someone who is smart and fearless and can contribute to the growth of society besides me.”
I nodded.
Sure that made sense. He has been giving me this orientation since we found out we were mates, and I've been trying so hard actually - to meet up with living up to the standards expected of me.
“I understand perfectly.”
“I know you would. Now this is why - I knew you would understand too when I told you that last night, I got married to the Beta's daughter - Shayla.”
Everything, including me froze and my jaw dropped as I stared at Roy shocked.
Surely I didn't hear him correctly.
Surely he didn't just say he was married - married to who?
Wait…what?
“I'm sorry, what?” I gasped out, with a frown.
Roy gave me a nonchalant shrug, “you do not have to look so shocked, you know. You are a smart lady, so I expect you to understand. You are not from any good family, you have no status so you do not fit into the picture of an Alpha's wife. I had to get someone more fit.”
The way he was Saying it so casually, like it was nothing. Like he wasn't just ripping out my heart from my chest and shredding it to pieces.
Suddenly the restaurant started spinning around me and my vision turned blurry as I stared at Roy dumbfounded.
“You are married? To another woman?”
“Yup!”
I released a breath but blinked back my tears - trying so hard not to give into the pain I was feeling.
If I did, I'd be so shattered beyond repair. If I do that, I'm going to collapse on the floor sobbing.
I won't.
Nothing made sense yet.
“But what about me Roy?” I asked, my voice still impossibly calm despite the turmoil in me, “I'm your mate. What about me?”
“Ah yes. About that little detail,” before I could bat an eye, Roy reached across the table and grabbed my arm, staring deep into my eyes.
“Under the sky and stars, with the goddess and the universe as my witnesses, I Roy Moondrop reject you, as my fated mate.”
The dawn broke slowly, bathing the world in soft hues of gold and lavender, as if the universe itself was acknowledging the monumental shift that had taken place. I stood at the edge of the clearing, the remnants of the battle still fresh in my mind, but as the sun rose, so too did a sense of hope within me. The night had been long and filled with uncertainty, but the light now filtering through the trees felt like a promise—a new beginning for my pack, for me. As I took a deep breath, inhaling the crisp morning air, I could feel the weight of the past begin to lift. Fenriz’s reign of terror had ended, and with it, a darkness that had loomed over us for far too long. I turned my gaze toward the horizon, where the sun peeked above the trees, and for the first time in ages, I felt a flicker of excitement. “Selene!” Roy’s voice broke through my reverie, pulling me back to reality. He approached with a warmth that mirrored the sun’s embrace, his face lit with determination. “We need to
The battle had ended, but the echoes of chaos still reverberated through the air. The ground was littered with the remnants of our struggle—broken swords, fallen warriors, and the unmistakable scent of blood. As the last vestiges of the blood moon began to fade, I stood among the wreckage, my heart heavy with the weight of our victory.I looked around at the faces of my pack members, their expressions a mix of exhaustion and triumph. We had fought hard, and the victory was sweet, but it came at a cost. Lives had been lost, and the scars of this battle would run deep. “Selene!” Roy’s voice broke through my reverie, pulling me from my thoughts. He was approaching, his face smeared with dirt and sweat, but the light in his eyes sparkled with pride. “We did it!”I forced a smile, though the weight in my chest made it feel heavy. “Yes, we did. But at what cost?” I gestured to the battlefield, where our fallen lay. “We lost so much.”He stepped closer, taking my hands in his. “We won. Fenr
The air crackled with tension, thick with the scent of blood and sweat. I stood beside Roy, our backs pressed together as we faced the chaos erupting around us. The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow that painted everything in shades of crimson. It was a blood moon, and its presence felt like an omen of the violence that surrounded us.I had always heard stories about the power of the blood moon, how it brought forth strength and ferocity in wolves. I could feel that energy pulsing through me, igniting my spirit as I prepared to face Fenriz. There was no fear; only a fierce determination to protect my pack and avenge those who had fallen.“Selene!” Roy’s voice cut through the din, grounding me in the chaos. “Stay close!”“I’m not going anywhere,” I replied, my heart racing with adrenaline. With each strike of my sword, I felt the weight of my purpose. Fenriz would not take any more from us. He had already caused enough pain. The sound of clashing steel rang in my ears as
I could still hear the echoes of the battle resonating in my ears—the shouts, the clash of swords, and the cries of my pack. The smoke from the explosion still hung in the air, choking us and masking the reality of the chaos around us. My heart raced as I frantically searched for Selene, my thoughts spiraling with fear.“Roy!” a voice called out, cutting through the confusion. I turned to see Declan staggering toward me, his face smeared with dirt and sweat, his expression frantic. “We need to regroup! Fenriz won’t give up; he’ll chase us!”“Where’s Selene?” I demanded, my chest tightening at the thought of her caught in the fray. I couldn’t lose her—not like this. “I don’t know! We got separated!” he shouted, panic edging his tone. “But we can’t linger. We have to get everyone to safety!”“Right. Let’s move!” I said, pushing past him as I tried to block out the dread building in my chest. We gathered the remaining pack members, forming a tight unit as we retreated into the woods. As
The sun rose slowly over the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. A new day, a new battle ahead. As I stood on the balcony of the Salvatore estate, the crisp morning air filled my lungs, but the taste of dread lingered in my throat. Today, everything would change.I had never felt the weight of leadership like this before. The responsibility of my pack rested heavily on my shoulders, and yet, I had chosen to lead them into a trap. My heart ached at the thought, but I pushed it aside. Selene's life depended on this. She was worth every sacrifice, even if it meant betraying my own.The faint sounds of movement stirred within the estate as the pack began to wake. I turned back to the room, where Selene still slept, her chest rising and falling gently beneath the covers. She looked peaceful, a stark contrast to the storm raging inside me. I wanted to wake her, to hold her, but I couldn’t bear the thought of her questioning me about today’s plan. Not yet.I slipped out o
I sat at the head of the council table, watching the flicker of uncertainty in every pair of eyes surrounding me. They didn’t trust me. After everything I’d done, every fight I’d led, the bond that once tethered us as a unified pack felt tenuous, like a thread on the verge of snapping. It was the hardest thing to accept—that despite my intentions, the seeds of doubt had been planted. And now, they were growing like weeds in the hearts of my pack.As I shifted my gaze to Declan, he wouldn’t meet my eyes. I had known Declan my entire life; he was not only my Beta but my closest friend, my brother in all but blood. And yet, in that moment, the distance between us felt insurmountable. He knew something was wrong—hell, *everyone* could feel it. I couldn’t tell them the truth. Not yet. Not while everything hung in the balance. I cleared my throat, preparing to address them. “We move at dawn,” I began, the weight of the lie pressing down on me like a heavy cloak. “Fenriz will expect an atta
The dawn broke over the Salvatore estate, casting a warm golden glow that felt almost surreal against the backdrop of the brewing storm. I stood on the balcony of my room, staring out at the horizon where the first light met the encroaching shadows. It was a peaceful morning, but I couldn’t shake the feeling of unease settling deep in my bones. The calm was deceptive, a brief respite before the inevitable chaos would unfold.“Roy?” Selene’s voice drifted through the open door, pulling me from my thoughts. I turned to see her standing there, her hair catching the sunlight, framing her face in a halo of warmth. “You okay?”“Just thinking,” I replied, forcing a smile. “About the meeting last night and what’s coming.”She stepped inside, wrapping her arms around herself as if seeking comfort from the impending conflict. “I can’t believe things have escalated so quickly. It feels like one moment we were just living our lives, and now…”I stepped closer, placing a hand on her shoulder. “I k
The tension hung heavy in the air as I made my way through the grand hall of the Salvatore estate. Shadows loomed in every corner, mirroring the unease that settled deep in my gut. Fenriz and Selene’s growing bond was not just a personal concern; it was becoming a strategic nightmare for our pack. I could feel the weight of impending conflict, a storm brewing just beneath the surface.“Roy!” Declan’s voice broke through my thoughts as he strode toward me, his expression serious. “We need to talk.”I nodded, my mind racing. “About Fenriz?”“About everything,” he replied, glancing around as if ensuring no one was eavesdropping. “We can’t ignore the signs any longer. The Blue Moon pack is mobilizing, and it looks like they’re preparing for something big.”The realization hit me like a slap to the face. The peace we had fought for was crumbling, and I could feel the anger rising within me. “What do you mean? Are they planning an attack?”Declan nodded grimly. “Word on the street is that F
The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a warm golden hue over the sprawling grounds of the Salvatore estate. I leaned against the large oak tree at the edge of the property, my thoughts tangled in a web of confusion and regret. My heart still ached from Selene's rejection, a wound that seemed to deepen with each passing moment. I had never expected to feel so lost after being so certain of my feelings for her.“Roy!” The sharpness of Declan’s voice sliced through my thoughts. I turned to see him striding toward me, a scowl etched across his face.“What do you want, Declan?” I asked, annoyance bubbling to the surface. My brother had been a thorn in my side ever since Selene had chosen to stand by Fenriz's side.“You need to stop moping around like a lovesick puppy,” he snapped, crossing his arms over his chest. “You think this is going to win Selene back?”“Maybe I don’t want to win her back,” I lied, forcing a casual shrug. The truth was that my heart was still tangled up in memor
