I tugged at the shiny blue dress I had on for like the millionth time as I stood at the entrance of the hotel with Jax waiting for God knows what.
I have no idea how on earth Jax had managed to persuade me into coming here with him considering everything that had happened in the past few hours. I really should do a better job at being mad. I sighed and tugged at the dress again, shifting on my feet uncomfortably. It was really absurd everytime u think about my life as it is now - which was almost every second - so absurd that I'd have laughed if I wasn't the victim of the whole craziness. First I get rejected. Then I have sex with my gay best friend. Then I find out he's not gay, but a spy from another pack. Then he goes ahead to tell me he loves me and proposes to me. Madness. Total madness, honestly. Dear goddess, what next? What would come out next to mock me and the joke I've obviously become to the universe? “No matter how hard you tug, the dress won't get lower than that” Jax said with a slight chuckle and I glared at him. Of course I knew that, but I was uncomfortable as hell in the dress. I have no idea where he had dug it out from. The dress barely looked presentable with how low it's back hung and how high it's slit went. If I stand carelessly, my barely covered hoo will be flashed to everyone in sight. “Stop fidgeting Selene. You look very hot.” “I should be going home. I should not have followed you out here to begin with.” He shook his head and smiled as if everything was perfectly fine between us. “I need to be at this party and I do not have a date. Besides, this is extremely important because I have something I'd love to show you.” “What's this party for anyway?” The hotel has to be one of the biggest hotels in the city. Whatever was going on in here has to be for the top classes. “Your Alpha is hosting a private banquet for Alpha Fenriz of Bluemoon,” Jax explained and glanced at his wash, “who will be visiting today for some partnership deal, and alliance treaty.” “How do you know this? And if it's a private banquet, how did you get an invite?” Jax shrugged and grinned, “I know someone who knows someone. You will soon see honey. Just relax.” “You are crazy,” I shook my head, “and I'm crazier for entertaining you.” He chuckled slightly and I looked at him. Really looked at him as his words rolled through my mind again. Did he really mean any of that? That he loved me? And what did he mean by ‘getting a higher status' and marrying him? What has one got to do with the other? “Why are we still standing out here?” I was starting to grow slightly frustrated. “It's just….” “Selene?” I froze, instantly recognising the voice. Roy. I shouldn't be so surprised that I ran into him here. He's the Alpha's son after all. I saw the rage that flashed into Jax's eyes before I turned and winced when I saw Roy with another lady in his arms. His new wife. “Fancy meeting you here,” he said haughtily, looking me from head to toe. “Question is, how on earth did she get invited?” Shayla chimed in, “are low rags now allowed into private banquets as this?” She chuckled and I said nothing. “She couldn't have gotten an invite. Must be here to seek some sort of attention. Will see you later, Selene.” My eyes burned in embarrassment as they walked past me. “Selene…” “I want to go home. Now!” Jax grabbed my arm, halting from me moving, “listen to me Selene. You should not let their words get to you that much. Listen - I promise you this, soon you will have so much power, so much that no one would dare to bully you or walk all over you every again!” What was he talking about? “Whatever.” “Come on. Let's go inside.” I followed him in. Surprisingly the guard at the entrance didn't ask for an invite. He just let him in and I followed him into the hotel hall. I was about to drop my jaw in admiration for the hall, when Roy and Shayla approached us again. “They don't rest, do they? The level of low self confidence.” Jax murmured under his breath and I giggled. “You two got in? I'm almost insulted!” Shayla snapped. “I'll need to question that fucking guard. The banquet is a private one meant for the high class and you two are just nothing.” Since when did Roy become this cruel and unreasonable? Since when did he become a bully, and so obsessed with status and class? “You two should not be here. I don't care how you got in but I'll have you kicked out immediately.” “Oh please. What's the big deal about the party anyway?” Roy's eyes widened. “This banquet is being held for Alpha Fenriz of the blue moon so yeah, it's a big deal for us. Something that I do not expect you understand - but Blue moon is the biggest, most developed and richest pack in the world. His presence alone is a huge honour for us.” Well, that makes absolute sense. “And you two are just staining the surroundings.” Shayla chimed in and Jax's chuckle was calm and low. “Are we?” Before Roy could respond, an elderly man in a suit approached us with a grin. “Ah! Stones! I have been looking for you.” Roy greeted the man's back, “please do you have any idea when Alpha Fenriz will be here?” The man raised his brow, looking genuinely confused, “what do you mean? He's here already.” Roy looked around his eyes wide, “really? How come no one informed me?” The old man was still confused as he responded, “j thought you two already met.” Then he turned to Jax, “forgive me Alpha Fenriz. I would have sent my men to fetch you if I knew you were already here.” “What?!” Roy's shocked scream perfectly mirrored my own shock and how I would have reacted. I stared at Jax, eyes wide. “I'm Fenriz, Alpha of Blue moons.” Jax greeted Roy with a grin, “And Selene here…is my fiancé. Now, for your insolence, I'll let her decide your fate.” Surely my ears were deceiving me. I couldn't move because my feet were still glued to the floor. Jax turned to me, his smile still in place. “How would you love these two idiots to be punished?”The dawn broke slowly, bathing the world in soft hues of gold and lavender, as if the universe itself was acknowledging the monumental shift that had taken place. I stood at the edge of the clearing, the remnants of the battle still fresh in my mind, but as the sun rose, so too did a sense of hope within me. The night had been long and filled with uncertainty, but the light now filtering through the trees felt like a promise—a new beginning for my pack, for me. As I took a deep breath, inhaling the crisp morning air, I could feel the weight of the past begin to lift. Fenriz’s reign of terror had ended, and with it, a darkness that had loomed over us for far too long. I turned my gaze toward the horizon, where the sun peeked above the trees, and for the first time in ages, I felt a flicker of excitement. “Selene!” Roy’s voice broke through my reverie, pulling me back to reality. He approached with a warmth that mirrored the sun’s embrace, his face lit with determination. “We need to
The battle had ended, but the echoes of chaos still reverberated through the air. The ground was littered with the remnants of our struggle—broken swords, fallen warriors, and the unmistakable scent of blood. As the last vestiges of the blood moon began to fade, I stood among the wreckage, my heart heavy with the weight of our victory.I looked around at the faces of my pack members, their expressions a mix of exhaustion and triumph. We had fought hard, and the victory was sweet, but it came at a cost. Lives had been lost, and the scars of this battle would run deep. “Selene!” Roy’s voice broke through my reverie, pulling me from my thoughts. He was approaching, his face smeared with dirt and sweat, but the light in his eyes sparkled with pride. “We did it!”I forced a smile, though the weight in my chest made it feel heavy. “Yes, we did. But at what cost?” I gestured to the battlefield, where our fallen lay. “We lost so much.”He stepped closer, taking my hands in his. “We won. Fenr
The air crackled with tension, thick with the scent of blood and sweat. I stood beside Roy, our backs pressed together as we faced the chaos erupting around us. The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow that painted everything in shades of crimson. It was a blood moon, and its presence felt like an omen of the violence that surrounded us.I had always heard stories about the power of the blood moon, how it brought forth strength and ferocity in wolves. I could feel that energy pulsing through me, igniting my spirit as I prepared to face Fenriz. There was no fear; only a fierce determination to protect my pack and avenge those who had fallen.“Selene!” Roy’s voice cut through the din, grounding me in the chaos. “Stay close!”“I’m not going anywhere,” I replied, my heart racing with adrenaline. With each strike of my sword, I felt the weight of my purpose. Fenriz would not take any more from us. He had already caused enough pain. The sound of clashing steel rang in my ears as
I could still hear the echoes of the battle resonating in my ears—the shouts, the clash of swords, and the cries of my pack. The smoke from the explosion still hung in the air, choking us and masking the reality of the chaos around us. My heart raced as I frantically searched for Selene, my thoughts spiraling with fear.“Roy!” a voice called out, cutting through the confusion. I turned to see Declan staggering toward me, his face smeared with dirt and sweat, his expression frantic. “We need to regroup! Fenriz won’t give up; he’ll chase us!”“Where’s Selene?” I demanded, my chest tightening at the thought of her caught in the fray. I couldn’t lose her—not like this. “I don’t know! We got separated!” he shouted, panic edging his tone. “But we can’t linger. We have to get everyone to safety!”“Right. Let’s move!” I said, pushing past him as I tried to block out the dread building in my chest. We gathered the remaining pack members, forming a tight unit as we retreated into the woods. As
The sun rose slowly over the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink. A new day, a new battle ahead. As I stood on the balcony of the Salvatore estate, the crisp morning air filled my lungs, but the taste of dread lingered in my throat. Today, everything would change.I had never felt the weight of leadership like this before. The responsibility of my pack rested heavily on my shoulders, and yet, I had chosen to lead them into a trap. My heart ached at the thought, but I pushed it aside. Selene's life depended on this. She was worth every sacrifice, even if it meant betraying my own.The faint sounds of movement stirred within the estate as the pack began to wake. I turned back to the room, where Selene still slept, her chest rising and falling gently beneath the covers. She looked peaceful, a stark contrast to the storm raging inside me. I wanted to wake her, to hold her, but I couldn’t bear the thought of her questioning me about today’s plan. Not yet.I slipped out o
I sat at the head of the council table, watching the flicker of uncertainty in every pair of eyes surrounding me. They didn’t trust me. After everything I’d done, every fight I’d led, the bond that once tethered us as a unified pack felt tenuous, like a thread on the verge of snapping. It was the hardest thing to accept—that despite my intentions, the seeds of doubt had been planted. And now, they were growing like weeds in the hearts of my pack.As I shifted my gaze to Declan, he wouldn’t meet my eyes. I had known Declan my entire life; he was not only my Beta but my closest friend, my brother in all but blood. And yet, in that moment, the distance between us felt insurmountable. He knew something was wrong—hell, *everyone* could feel it. I couldn’t tell them the truth. Not yet. Not while everything hung in the balance. I cleared my throat, preparing to address them. “We move at dawn,” I began, the weight of the lie pressing down on me like a heavy cloak. “Fenriz will expect an atta
