Chapter 79

“My dearest mother has her sights set on you,” Koa said during the tense carriage ride back home. “Your father is in danger, too.”

Again, I was staring death in the face.

The Luna Queen had decided to get rid of my father and I. It was not unexpected. I knew that once she got it into her head that my father was not a tool she could use, she would not want him to fall into someone else’s hands and would, thus, try to do something about him.

“You will be fine,” Koa tried to assure me but he had not died before and kept memories of his gruesome death so he did not understand how I was feeling.

“I will be fine only if I can outsmart her fast enough.” I bit my fingers. “You will not always be there to protect me.”

“I will be,” he said. “Do you trust me?” He beat me to the punch. “No, do not say a word but trust me. I will protect you.”

I didn't think the plot was off track. I thought you were trying to introduce new minor characters that supported the plot point of Persephone building her influence separate from her father or Cassius. That bit of story telling was necessary if you planned to make it a lengthier story.
