Chapter 85

“He was sent on an ambush disguised as a peaceful negotiation,” my father said with a sigh. “They have become more proactive in their quest to eliminate him.” He rubbed his eyes which had been overtaken by ugly dark circles.

I stared at the battered wolf whose blood was everywhere. No matter how hard I stared at the wolf, it did not move. It looked – dead. There was barely any sign of life in him.

“Alpha, you called…” Doctor Lorenzo came into the room and sucked in a sharp breath upon seeing the dastardly wolf laid out. “My goodness.” He got to work as he mumbled under his breath. “Miss, you have to step aside.” I think the words were directed at me but they came from such a faraway place that I could not be sure.

“Persephone,” my father’s tired voice rang out and a cold hand grabbed my bicep and tugged at me. I followed like a ragged doll.
