“What the fuck”. I yelled and quickly scolded myself because it was past midnight.

Adrian watches blue films! Why would he do such a thing? It dawned on me that he lacked morals because that's the only explainable reason why a successful man like him was patronizing a blue film channel.

I turned off my internet connection and covered myself with the duvet. I think I have had enough; sleep had better arrive fast.

The next morning, I woke up to a deafening knock on the door. I dragged myself out of the bed lazily cursing the knocker under my breath. “Screw whoever was disturbing my precious morning sleep”.

I opened the door to find the maid I had a conversation with last night standing before me. She looked offended and reserved.

“Good morning, ma'am”. She mumbled, feigning a smile; I could tell it was fake.

“Come in”. I reply warmly ignoring her greetings and beckoning to her to walk inside my room.

She hesitated but when I gave her a persistent look, she obliged. I led her to a comfortable couch, and we sat together, but she was feeling nervous.

“Hey, feel free, okay?”. I'm not Adrian and I don't bite”. I said with a warm smile.

She nodded abruptly on the couch and leaned comfortably with me. I don't know what I was doing but I think it was making sense.

“You don't look fine, do you mind sharing what's bothering you?” I asked, gazing at her intently.

“I'm fine, ma'am; your husband asked me to give you this”. She replied quickly, stretching her right hand in front of me with a piece of paper in it. I knew she was trying to change the topic or escape my question but I resolved to let her have her way.

“What's that?” I asked collecting the paper with furrowed brows.

“You can check for yourself, ma'am; I'll be on my way”. She muttered and stood up to leave.

I unfolded the piece of paper and saw scribbled handwriting on it, “Your movement restriction has been lifted.” My joy knew no bounds, I was finally going to see Mom.

I scampered into the bathroom and turned on the shower letting the water cascade down my body in sweet bliss. The thought of seeing Mom brought about this rare surge of happiness in me.

Done with the shower, I dressed in a shaping purple gown and packed my hair in a messy bun, no time for much styling. I flew out of my room and descended the stairs like a flash. I needed to leave the house before anything happened, like Adrian changing his mind, he can be so unpredictable.

As I ran through the living room heading to the main exit door, I could hear a maid asking me to have breakfast. Who fucking cared about breakfast in times like this? I opened the door and went out, slamming it carelessly behind me.

I started rushing towards the gate when a strong palm suddenly grabbed my left hand firmly from behind. A series of thoughts flashed through my mind during the seconds I took to turn around and see the person.

“Did Adrian prank me with the note?” “Did he change his mind or is it that he forgot to alert his fucking bouncers about the changes?”

“Ma'am, your husband gave strict orders that you use adequate security measures when stepping out of this house”. He declared with a deep and precise voice”.

I wriggled my hand free from his grip and stared at him with contempt.

“What fucking security measures are you talking about?” I asked with furrowed brows.

“You will have to take a convoy, bouncers, and entourage with you to wherever you go”. He explained.

“Why is that?” I asked at the top of my voice.

“Because you're the wife of an influential billionaire”. He replied, making me roll my eyes.

“And so what?” I snapped at him. I felt so good talking to the bouncer the way I did because I would have lost my voice if it were Adrian.

“And so because you're the wife of a billionaire, you need to be protected and secured”. He pressed further.

I hissed so loudly in frustration and muttered, “Arrange the damn entourage.” and turned around to leave but stopped abruptly.

“One more thing; them”. He said with his right hand raised, I nodded in confusion.

“Your dress”. He said gesturing at the purple gown I was putting on.

“What about it?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“You have to put on something that fits your status. No offense ma'am, I'm just doing my job”.

I hissed again and walked away heading back into the house. I went to my room angrily and pulled off the dress I was wearing.

I rummaged through my wardrobe searching for something billionaire-wife-like to wear. Sadly, I couldn't find any; the frustration was unbearable. moped on my bed instantly and cried. I couldn't see Mom today again for some sick reason. I am sure I will not be able to forgive myself and Adrian if anything happens to my mother.

I didn't know when sleep took me away, but I had never had a nap in a while. I woke up a few hours later to my piles of problems staring at me.

I had to come up with solutions immediately. Firstly, I needed to go shopping and change my wardrobe to something that would suit Adrian's taste.

Should I meet him to be sure of the choices I make or should I just buy what is generally suitable, I thought to myself.

‘No! I won't meet Adrian”. I declared quickly and discarded the thought. I wasn't ready for his taunts. I will just go to a standard shopping mall and pick good clothes.

There was a knock on the door. I was too angry to remember my manners.

“Who the hell is that?” I screamed.

“Ma'am, the entourage waited for you in vain. Did you cancel going out?”

I was enraged by that question, anything that reminded me of my frustrations angered me.

“Screw you and your entourage”. I replied on top of my voice, though it was cracky.

My phone rang suddenly and the caller wasn't familiar because the number wasn't saved by me. I went to my Truecaller app and I was told the name of the caller was “Julian Sterling”.

If this information was correct, then it means the caller was Adrian's relative because of the “Sterling” surname. The person called the second time and I picked up.“Hello dear”. His voice came soft and welcoming.“Hello”. I managed to reply in stammers.“You are Genny right?” He asked, making me nervous.“Who are you please?” I asked, trying to clear my doubt. Since I got married to Adrian, no family member has come to visit, and Adrian never introduced me to any. How did he get my contact?“Please answer my question; you are Adrian's wife, right?” He pressed.“Yes”. I muttered.“And your name is Jenny right?” he asked again, stressing the “Jenny” word.“Yes, I am”. I replied visibly annoyed.“It's nice meeting you…….“Please who are you?” I asked with furrowed brows, interrupting him.“I am Julian Sterling by name, Adrian's cousin”. He explained.“Okay. How can I help you please?” I asked, trying to define the purpose of the call.“No dear, I'm the one who wants to help you”. He re

“Interesting”. Adrian replied with a smirk. “So if you knew you were able to use your damn legs after all, why did you write me a note?”I didn't know what to say so I remained silent.“Answer me!” He yelled at once, making shivers run down my spine.I just stood there mute and visibly shaken.“I think I know why”. He said, touching his jaw. “Because I consented to your fucking request with a note, that gave you the guts to do the same”.Now I realized this man was very insane. Why would he have any problem with me writing him a note?“I'm sorry if you're offended. But I need a response”. I replied slowly with my head bowed.“What exactly do you want”. He said, rolling his eyes as if he didn't get the message from the note.“I need some money to change my wardrobe”. I replied.I hated the fact that I was standing in front of a man asking for money. It was a bruise to my ego, never had I imagined that life would maltreat me to the point of relying on a man for my upkeep.“How much do y

I replied, interrupting the poor nurse. The nurse left my ward, and after a few seconds, the bouncers strode in. There were two, the same ones that brought me to the hospital last night. One of them leaned on the wall opposite my bed while the other strode in my direction.“How are you feeling today ma'am?” He asked with no atom of emotion in his voice.I nodded in reply.“Your husband wants you to be discharged; he said you would receive the rest of the treatment at home.” He announced.“But I have not fully recovered; why would he give such an order,” I asked at the top of my voice.“That's the same thing I said ma'am. The doctor will be coming to treat you at home”. He explained.“No!” I yelled, making the bouncers jerk. “I don't want to go home; I still need this hospital environment to facilitate my recovery.” I shrugged.Meanwhile, the bouncer who was leaning on t

Adrian's eyes widened in shock, he stood from where he sat and walked towards me. I could feel my heart pounding against my chest as I began developing cold feet. How on earth was I able to talk back to Adrian? How did I do it? As much as I know that he wasn't going to take it lightly with me, I do not regret it.He was close to me by now with his head high above mine. I fixed my gaze on the floor, looking at nothing in particular.“What did you say?” He asked slowly, I could feel his breath showering on my earlobe.“Nothing”. I replied in shutters. “I didn't say anything”.“Are you sure?”. He pressed further.“Yes”. I affirmed.“I thought as much”. He said and walked away.I heaved a loud sigh of relief and strode away silently. When I got to my room, I twisted the door knob clockwise and walked in. The first thing I did was to take off my clothes and walk under the shower. The stench of the hospital was glued to my body, and although I loved it, it had to go.After freshening up, I

The cashier explained, beaming with a smile.“Who's this boss of yours?” I asked with furrowed brows.“Julian Sterling, your brother-in-law”. She replied.“You know what, I will not be taking any of these items home. It's either you allow me to pay for them or I return them”. I said matter of factly.“No ma'am, please don't do that, you will be putting my job on the line”. The cashier replied with a pitiful voice.I heaved a sigh and stared at the lady intensely. Of course, I wouldn't do anything that would make her lose her job because I understand what it means to make money.Suddenly, as I was racking my brains for the next thing to do, a large crowd started to gather around me. I was scared to my marrow; the boutique securities tried to scare away the crowd, but it didn't work. They kept chanting “Mr

I resolved that I wasn't capable of telling Adrian about Julian yet, so I went ahead to narrate the incident with the crowd, skillfully excluding Julian's ordeal. When I was done, I remained mute, hoping he would just take my word for it and not bombard me with questions. However, he heaved a loud sigh and muttered.“Julian”.I wasn't sure I heard him well and I couldn't help but ask.“What did you say?”He stood up and mumbled, “Never mind”.He walked past me and headed to his room. I wasn't expecting any reply initially so I shoved it aside and went to my room. I tried so much to take my mind off Adrian's issue with Julian, but the more I tried, the more I became interested. Maybe I would have successfully shoved it aside if Julian didn't drag me into the picture.I curled up on my bed as usual hoping sleep would come knocking because it was just a few hours to midnight. I slept off a few minutes later but jumped off my bed and landed on the floor suddenly. I had a dream about Mom a

Why exactly didn't he just ask me to use the other cars in his convoy? The backseat door was opened and I sat inside cautiously. I felt Adrian's gaze on me but I tried to avoid looking back at him.“My home is just a stone's throw from here; I can walk down there”. I muttered.“We are heading to the office; enough of this going home nonsense.” He replied firmly.“You can't do this to me. I really need to visit home, it's very important”. I cried.“Driver, move this car!” Adrian ordered ignoring my pleas.I sank back into the car seat frustrated. Why was he just so difficult? My tear glands were alerted and so on tears began trickling down my face. Adrian kept a straight face all through and refused to have a change of heart.Suddenly, our car pulled up again. I refused to regret my actions and applauded myself for a job well done.“Get out of here, back to where you came from this minute, and don't ever show yourself stupid self till further notice”.I picked up my bag from the floor, tucked my hair behind my ear, and walked out of the room. No sooner had the words escaped my lips than Helen's eyes had widened in alarm and she let out a loud shout, but I was quick to react. I swiftly clamped my hand over her mouth, my fingers pressing gently against her lips to silence her. "Why are you shouting?" Her voice was trembling, and I could feel the depth of her anxiety. I took a deep breath and, as reassuring as possible, my voice calm and soothing, told her, "No, he won't. Just do it, and be unnoticeable," I urged, my eyes locked on hers.Apprehension clouded her gaze; she was terrified that her ruse would be discovered. I knew by now that I really had to get her on my side. My knees nearly grazing the floor, I stepped closer, speaking in a begging, urgent voice:"Please, Helen, I beg of you. I need to kno

And as I sat, lost in my thoughts, came Adrian's soft voice to pierce my fog."Sit, my love." But I didn't utter a word, my mind still wandering to some far-off place, engrossed in the thoughts that had occupied me all day.Adrian's voice came again this time louder, more insistent, "Sit, babe." The sound of his voice was like a summer's breeze-soft and soothing but it was enough to bring me back to reality."Hmm, I breathed in immediately," I said, my voice a little shaky, as I slowly came back to the present."Sorry, I was lost in thought," I apologized, and my eyes found Adrian's concerned face across the table. A look of worry marked his features, and a pang of guilt pinched in my chest as I looked at him for the first time. The scent of the food wafted up to me: savory, full, and growling my stomach with anticipation.Today's dinner was a light, elegant rice flour and chicken soup. What astonished me most was the way it had been presented: freshly arranged with a handful of color

While reassurance on my part was due, it would not go away, and a shadow of skepticism and doubt remained in Adrian's eyes. But I knew I needed to reassure him and he had to believe that I meant to help him."Serious, Adrian," I said, the conviction laced deep in my voice as I reached out and laid my fingers on his shoulders. My fingers came into contact with his skin, and the tension in his body started to dissipate.Adrian's face slowly broke into a smile, crinkles forming around his eyes as he stared at me. But then his face turned curious, his eyebrows arching upwards in a questioning curve."But how will you do it?" he wondered, his voice full of wonder, eyes wide with curiosity. I smiled again, and excitement and anticipation started building up in me."Don't worry, I will do wonders," I said confidently, looking right into Adrian's eyes.He was still in shock, his eyes wide with wonder, trying to digest the fact that I was offering to help him. Finally, we reached the door to our room, and Adrian pushed it open, gesturing for me to enter. As I was about to step inside, my eyes automatically fell on the two maids standing in the corner, speaking in hushed tones and whispering to each other. I knew beyond any doubt that they spoke of Adrian and me, their eyes darting toward us with curiosity and suspicion. But I wasn't scared, not in the least. After all, Adrian and I were married, and we had nothing to hide.We closed the door behind us, and Adrian and I sat down on the bed, the soft mattress wrapping us in its comfort. And then, as if the dam had finally burst, I began to cry, great racking sobs that seemed to shake my very foundations, as if I were letting all the built-up emotions inside me go.And the tears just kept on coming. I wailed, my voice ringing out in the empty space, a pitiful, anguished sound, as if something was being ripped from the very soul itself. The hot, salty tears rolled down my cheeks like a river breaking its banks: unstoppable, relentless. I had lain on the floor, crying and weeping; my body was shaking with sobs, like the accumulated pressure of emotions finally found a way to break loose.Lying here, I felt as though I'd been plunged deep into an ocean of despair, with no life preserver to cling to. Then, somewhere in the depth of me, something seemed to turn over-a determined ember that refused to be doused."It's all right, Jenny," I said to myself, my voice no more than a soft, quiet whisper, as I stood up slowly, my legs shaking right beneath me. "You will be fine."
