Ayla’s POV

I was still lying on the bed with my eyes fixed on the ceiling when I started hearing distant sounds. My attention now divided, causing me to creep out of bed to find out what was making those sounds.

Walking out of the room, I was about to mutter a 'hello’ when I recognized the voice to be that of my parents. It seems they just got back, they'd better not see my teary eyes.

Already making a U-turn, I made my way back to the room but stopped midway as I heard my name. “Good evening dad, mom.” I threw them some greetings and was about to walk out again when my dad broke the silence.

“We were just about to get you, your mother and I are just returning from the pack house and we have good news.” Mr Jacobs relayed excitedly.

“I'm sorry to cut your excitement short..” I turned to face them, “Calyx rejected me and I have accepted his rejection.” I say in the calmest tone I know. And I watched all the excitement fall from their faces as they gawked at me with puzzled looks.

“What do you mean, child?” My mom asked. Perhaps, she couldn't believe such a thing could ever happen, I didn't believe it either.

“Did you just say Calyx rejected you or did I hear wrongly?” My Dad rephrased, finding it hard to process.

I just stared at them like some ghost that has just realized she's no longer part of the living.

And actually, I wasn't part of the living anymore cause I'd long lost the cause to live and it was a miracle that I could still stand and answer questions from them.

As I stared at them I got reminded of how dreadly I was rejected and I didn't know when I started to tear up. My face once had only marks of tears. It was now flowing with tears again and as soon as my parents noticed this they rushed towards me, running their hands all over my face.

“Baby, are you okay?” My mom freaked and tried to wipe off the tears but I moved back, staring at them with glossy eyes.

“Who am I?” My voice cracked. “How am I a hybrid and not a Luna like you, Mom?” I finally let out the heavy question that has been weighing me down.

The room fell dead silent as soon as those words left my mouth. My parents stared at me dumbly, shock now taking over the worry in their eyes. Flustered, they start to exchange eye signals. I wasn't comfortable with this especially when it was eating me up to know what they were hiding.

“Hmph!” I let out a cracked chuckle, glaring at them. “I'm so stupid for actually thinking you were ever going to tell me anything.” I was disappointed but I didn't let it wear me down.

I was ready to make them feel all the guilt in the world until they finally opened their mouths and told me what I wanted to know.

“Baby, please calm down. You're just stressed about the coronation and your wedding, just take some pills and rest okay.” my mom bellowed, trying to blame it on my misplaced emotions.

“Stressed?” I laughed.

“Come on, let's talk about this another time alright?” My dad added. His voice was oddly clear as if he had nothing to hide and I was just being dramatic.

I'm starting to believe that they set this up to break me and turn me into a maniac because it doesn't make sense how Carla would know about this and use it against me. The Carla I know doesn't dare to stand up to me so it only makes sense that her parents are heavily behind her.

I shook my head continuously. “No, I'm not stressed at all. I want to know who my parents are and why you've hidden it from me for the past 18 years?!” I had to shout because they were never going to tell me anything if I didn't pressure them.

Their eyes raised to humanly possible and just when I thought they were finally going to say something they became silent again.

I moved an inch closer to my mom and held her hands, “Mom, please! If you truly loved me as your daughter you wouldn't keep this from me.” I cried.

Her eyes glistened with tears, her hand traveled into my hair and she fumbled it softly.

“Baby.. why don't you rest your head and we talk about this tomorrow, hmm?” she croaked.

“No,” I said sharply, slowly pulling away from her.

“Just listen to us, we would never do anything to hurt you—”

My dad was saying when I cut him off, “How did Carla know about this and I don't?!” I said in an outburst and they exchanged shocking glances.

“What are you talking about?” Mr Jacob questioned, his brows knitted.

My lips spread into a sad smile as I felt the disappointment in his tone. “You think I made this up? Your daughter, Carla, told me about my existence. She said that I'm a weak wolf who doesn't belong in your life. She said so many harsh words to me and you, her parents are still not going to speak the truth?” I was almost breathless by the time I finished my statement.

It was already disheartening that they didn't want to tell me the truth but making me look like a mad woman didn't go down well with me.

My dad and mom were busy staring at me like some lunatic, Carla was telling the truth and they're really bad at hiding it.

My dad stared at me with paused lips as if confused about what to do. He glanced at my mom and back at me, though impatient I allowed him but the disappointment in my eyes never left.

After taking almost 30 minutes to figure out what other excuse to give, he sighed and walked to the living room with me trailing behind him.

“Please sit and let us discuss this calmly.” He glanced at my mom whose face was already filled with terror.

“Finally someone to tell the story” I ruffled, taking a seat opposite him.

“I don't know what you heard from Carla, I hope hearing this story doesn't change your mindset of us being family.” He began, my mom sneaked her hand into his and smiled softly at him.

“Your father was my very good friend but I lost him to death during a war between our pack and the north rogues.”

My lips parted dryly and I didn't know when a tear broke down my cheeks. “So he died..” I didn't know when I mouthed the words.

“We are so sorry baby, we promised never to let you know, even the pack members have forgotten about the incident that took place years ago.” My mom said, trying to comfort me.

“What about my mother? Don't I have a mom?” I asked, deep down inside me I was hoping to hear she deserted me but what my Dad said broke me.

“You did. She died during childbirth, she couldn't see what beautiful lady she brought to life.”

My heart hammered inside my chest, and I raised my eyes to meet his, my lips shaking “She died while giving birth to me? I killed her, I killed my mother.” I broke down in uncontrollable tears and even the consolations I got from my mom couldn't amend my sobbing heart.

Suddenly, we started hearing the sound of heels hitting aggressively on the tiled floor. We were forced to look at the door to know who was coming and it was none other but the bitch, Carla.

She walked into the room, wearing a really big smile that I feared her lips would tear off.

“Isn't this what they call perfect timing?” She snickered. Her eyes ran from my mom to my dad and then me as she stared at us absurdly.

My dad straightened up and cleared his throat. “What's all these you're carrying?” He questioned with bugged eyes and only then did I notice the big shopping bag she was holding.

“Oh yes! Mom, we have a wedding to prepare for!!” She screamed excitedly. Her wide grins driving more confusion into our faces.
