Ayla's POV
Even as I snuggled myself up with the covers I still had to wriggle my nose to get rid of the stench of alcohol messing with my nostrils. Frustrated, I pulled down the covers only to see that Calyx was just getting started. It was six hours since the wedding and this man had refused to get out of his mini-bar. He was sitting there, hugging a bottle of vodka which I had been unable to take away from him. I know he's doing this to spite me, but I'm not going anywhere. No matter what he does tonight, I will stick around till the end. “Can you at least respect me and go outside to have your drink? It's killing me here!” With the way I had convinced myself that I was staying till the end, I didn't know I would scream out in frustration. This isn't me backing out, right? Aish! “Respect!” He snuggled. “Did she say respect? Tccch.. do you know what that means, wifey? Or you thou-think with your ass?” He stuttered, laughing to himself. I climbed down from the bed to see how wasted he was. He pointed his finger at me, swearing “What do you know about love? Yes, you! You claim to love me yet you do this? Aren't you a bitch like your sister? Huh? Huh?!” “Yes, I agree. I agree that I'm a bitch, but what are you?” I lashed at him. “Me?” He poked his chest and I nodded. “I am the prize, your prize. Ain't I right?” He stared deeply at me and for some seconds I thought he wasn't drunk. My face instantly went dry as I realized what he was doing, he was mocking me. His deep laugh echoes through the room. “That's right, isn't it? You would still want me even if I turned you into a slave. Hmph! You could see your face right now, you look so pale wifey.” His pupils could barely open, but he still managed to describe my face correctly. Was he pretending? Fuck me! I left him to drink himself to death or whatever he wanted. I jumped on the bed angrily, dying of embarrassment. “Haha! Such a pathetic bride, do you want me to call you a guard in case you catch a cold at night?” He shouted after me but I was done giving him an audience. He should go ahead and say whatever he likes, he's drunk, so I don't expect any less. I gripped the pillow and shoved it over my head, shutting him from my world. “Come on, please come sit with my wifey. You shouldn't abandon your husband, let's drink together, eh!” How could I still hear him? I guess this is what I signed up for. Calyx kept on uttering gibberish until he got tired and came to join me in bed. I was surprised he could still want to share a space with me, but to my heartbreak, he threw his leg on me and the next thing I knew was crazy snores that completely blew me off. Calyx's POV A sharp groan escapes me as I jolt up from sleep. I rob my temple calmly wondering why I was feeling so much pain in my abdomen. Taking off the covers, I proceeded to my mini bar but I kicked something in the process. I groaned looking down to see what I hit. “Ayla?” What's she doing sleeping on the cold floor? I was about to carry her from the floor when it suddenly hit me that I was supposed to be mad at her. I skipped past her and walked to get water from the fridge. My head was banging really badly due to how drunk I had gotten myself last night, so I decided to take a shower. By the time I was done, it was already 4 am. I lay on the bed staring at Ayla who was sleeping peacefully on the floor. No, it wasn't bothering me, I was just curious. How is she sleeping so soundly on the floor without catching a cold? Ignoring her, I took out my phone and saw 15 missed calls from Carla. She must have been so worried, I was in the same room with Ayla as I expected. I dialed her number a couple of times but it seemed she was asleep so I let it rest. “I hate you..” Ayla murmurs, drawing my attention to her. A tear slides down her cheek and her face builder into a frown. I watched her with amusement, wondering what kind of dream she was having to make her cry in her sleep. And then it occurred to me that I might be the cause. “Nah.” I looked at her again and slipped out of bed. As I carried her to bed she kept muttering, “I hate you..” and I angrily threw her on the bed forgetting that she was tugging on my shirt, causing me to join her in the fall. We rolled to the end and just when she was about to fall I pulled her towards me, hugging her to myself. “Gracious!” I exhaled. Just then I started hearing muffled sounds and tiny tugs, it took me forever to realize that it was Ayla trying hard to breathe. She must have woken up due to the rough pull. Damn! “How the hell did you get here?!” I shouted, pushing her off quickly. She stared at me with wide eyes, unable to explain herself. “I-I I was–” she stammered. “You what? Did you touch me? Why am I wearing shorts and why are you lying beside me?” I was taking my pretense really far, but I loved the feeling of guilt that was washing up on her face. She scratched her head nervously, searching for words to say. “I don't know how I got here either. I was lying on the floor.” “So you mean I brought you here?” She shook her head. “You took advantage of my drunk state, that was why you never stopped me. You had dark intentions all along, you wanted to seduce me.” I lied, staring intently at her. “No. That's not true!” she mumbled. “Then how did you get here?” A knock landed on the door and we both turned to look at it. I gave her a warning signal and cleared my throat. “Who's there?” “Head maid Moira.” The voice resounded from the door. I climbed down the bed and threw on my robe. “Speak,” I told her. “Breakfast is set my Lord, you should bring Lady Ayla to the table. Your father is going to be present.” She relayed. “We will be there.” I was having a chat with Damon when my father walked in. We all rose to welcome him and took our seats only when he had taken his. “Greetings my Alpha” Ayla greats with a smile hanging freely on her lips. My father glanced at her and turned to look at me, “Your wife looks like she lacked some sleep last night.” He said in the mood for trouble. “We couldn't get–” “It's homesickness, I terribly missed my mom.” She interrupted earning a bombastic side-eye from me. “Is that so?” My father mused, staring at me again. “I couldn't agree less, she even had to resolve drinking. I guess I irritate her that much.” I said absentmindedly, picking up my cutlery. “I hope you had a good night's rest Father?” She tried to strike up a conversation with the Alpha but I shushed her. I passed her a dark smile. “Let's eat.” After discussing some boring issues, Father finally decided to leave the table. Ayla stood up after him but,I stopped her, claiming we had something to discuss in the room. As soon as we got away from everyone, I gripped her neck, pinning her to the wall. Tears slowly streaked down her eyes as she stared at me weakly. “Let me remind you that the reason why I agreed to this sham marriage is because my coronation is tomorrow. So don't even try to play smart with my father because I will be Alpha before you know it and if I were you I wouldn't do anything to jeopardize my stay here.” I released my hold on her and walked away.Ayla's POVMy eyes molded as Damon turned to look at me. I tried to speak but my throat was dry and all I could utter was a gulp.“He's gone.” He said softly, his eyes peeked at me and in the corner of it was a glint of concern.I took my palm to my face and wiped off the tears rolling down my cheeks, straightening myself. I tried to maintain a strong pose, but who was I deceiving? Damon had seen me run out of Calyx's room and even protected me from getting caught.Still, I hoped he didn't know what I was facing, he might know because Calyx was mad about me due to what he told him but I really wished he didn't or perhaps stopped concerning himself with our issues.“Ayla, can you not hear me? Are you okay?” Damon asked, his eyes searched through mine as I was lost in thoughts.I whizzled out of my thoughts and stared back at him, “did you say something?”“Yes, I was asking if you want to see the grand Alpha but are you okay?” He asked instead. I nodded my head. “Are you sure? I don't m
Calyx's POVRaw rage burned within me as I excused myself from Carla and stormed out of the study. My heart pounded in my chest, as I took long strides in the dark hallway and within a few minutes, I had already gone up the flight of stairs which led to the master bedroom I shared with Ayla.Damon's words echoed in my mind, accusing me of being too harsh on Ayla. How dare he question my authority, my leadership as the alpha?I clenched my fists, in a bid to control myself until I got to Ayla.I had to put an end to this nonsense once and for all.My breaths were coming in heavy gasps and my fists were clenched. I reached the door to the master bedroom and threw it open, the door slamming against the wall with a loud bang.Ayla, who was sitting at her dressing table, was startled by my sudden entrance. Her tear-stained face looked up at me, confused. I caught a glimpse of fear as she sprang up , her eyes searching mine, but I pushed it aside. She needed to learn her place, to understan
Calyx's POVWatching Ayla's face fall as she saw us was more satisfying than I could have imagined. The fear in her eyes fueled a sense of triumph within me; it felt right to see her suffer, and Carla was unwittingly making it all too easy. Ayla's eyes were filled with shock and pain as she stumbled away, and I relished the moment.I knew it would break her, and I was prepared to mold back the pieces and shatter it all-over again this time harder.A hand snuck around my arm and I brought my eyes down to the small figure of Carla, she slipped her hand around my waist and I couldn't help but smile as I ran my fingers through her silky black hair."I'm happy we're doing this," she giggled, her artificial lashes fluttering. Lost in her beauty, I found myself drawn to her dimpled cheeks, unable to look away. With Carla, everything felt effortless, and now, just gazing at her, I was overwhelmed with desire."I'm never letting you out of my sight again, Carla," I whispered into her ear, brin
Ayla's POVShivers wrecked my body as I stared down at my trembling legs, the fear that had seized me when Calyx locked eyes with me still lingered, threatening to consume me entirely. My hand crept up to clutch my chest, fingers tapping anxiously against my breastbone. I dared not raise my gaze until I sensed Calyx's movement, his presence filling the room with a suffocating intensity. With cautious agitation, I cracked open an eye, my heart hammering in my chest as I stole a glance at him. He sat at his mini-bar, pouring himself a drink, a casualness in his demeanor that sent a shiver down my spine. The urge to flee nibbled at me, but I couldn't muster the courage to escape his penetrating gaze. His eyes seemed to bore into me, stripping away every ounce of resolve I possessed.Disturbed by his earlier words about Dwayne's health, an urge to leave the room surged within me, propelling me to my feet. With a sharp inhale, I braced myself and made to leave the room, only to freeze in m
Calyx POVSniveling, I struggled out of the covers, my breath rampart, my face covered in deep sweat. Tying my robe around my waist, I rushed to get the door and, for the first time, I sneaked out of the room not wanting to wake Ayla, who was deeply asleep and didn't hear the thud from the door.“What's going on? You sounded urgent.” I said, taking hasty steps towards Damon, who was standing quietly beside my door.He didn't reply and just stared at me, worry etched on his face. I was awoken by Damon's hushed voice, he had mind linked me and yelled my name severally asking me to get out of bed.“Damon,” my brows twitched as I looked back at him, what could he be hiding in that strong face of his? “What is this about?”He suddenly moved and faced me properly, “it's about your father, Dwayne fell into coma last night.” His words felt like a sledgehammer to my heart.Sweat broke down my forehead, I looked at him, shock enveloping my senses. “Father was fine when I spoke with him, how-w d
Carla's POVWith my heart beating heavily and shattering against the wall of my chest,my vision blurred behind the shimmer of sun that sank into the room through the window.I quit pacing as my attention was drawn to two raps that came from the door.“Come in." I called out settling into one of the sofas in the room.It had been twenty minutes since I had sent for the healer, the long minute had been filled with an emptiness that expanded deep in the inside of me till it threatened to eat me alive. How fitting my belief had been that this was the only way out. Much as the entire thought of what I was about to do seemed to me as being desperate, I was beginning to realize it had to be done.I stood in the middle of the beautiful apartment and felt nothing but cold and emptiness as the door opened, three people walked into the room and as my gaze turned to meet them, a smile came up on my face.My mind spun with desperate thoughts of how all of this was going to end. Still they all ende
