Ayla's POV

My fingers played with the cutlery as I had absolutely no appetite for any meal. My eyes were fixed on my phone the whole time.

I completely find that odd but a part of me still hoped that Calyx would message me.

At intervals, I would look at my parents to see if they were watching me, but those people weren't even concerned about me as they were busy with their food while I was busy picking on mine.

“Please eat something, baby. You can't continue to starve yourself.” My mom complained softly.

“I'm not going to die if I skip breakfast.” I mumbled, snatching my eyes from her.

“But it's not just breakfast, you didn't eat anything either last night,” She queried.

My dad dropped his fork and looked at me, sighing. “I've told you before, Calyx doesn't have a choice in this. The wedding is going on. Why do you keep stressing over this?”

“Stop shouting at the poor child, she's just heartbroken.” My mom came to my defense.

“But he's going to claim her back–”

“It doesn't change the fact that he cheated!” I cut in “and on top of it he doesn't want me anymore. If he's claiming me back it's only because he's forced to do so.”

“Isn't that better than crying your eyes out? You won't eat, you won't stop crying either–”

Beep beep

The sound of a flash message diverted my attention. My eyes flashed at my phone and my hands started to shake as soon as I saw the contents of the message.

“It says to come out.” I said with uncertainty as I gaped at my parents.

“What says?” My dad asked. I took my eyes down to my phone, and he gasped, “go, quickly.”

Instantly, I jumped out of the chair and quickly made my way outside the house.

My stomach churned at the sight of him. He was looking so ruffled and stressed. His hair was scattered with strands of it messing with his face.

He probably didn't notice I had come out as he was looking so innocent and handsome like the man I fell in love with.

“Tcch” he kissed his teeth as his eyes located me. A sinister smile hung on his face as he started approaching me.

As he advanced towards me, all I could see was a tall walking prince with a hardened heart, whose piercing blue eyes were slowly drawing the life out of me.

He suddenly stopped, sizing me up with his eyes. He was still very far from me and I got lost staring at him, all my worries slowly slipping away.

The hurt, the heartbreak, the epic betrayal.. Everything was gone, and I was just a lifeless being gloping at my only source of living.

My eyes twinkled as he got near. I threw my hands wide open, ready to welcome him regardless of his flaws. I was ready to forgive him even if he didn't utter the sorry words.

“I heard you're holding onto my father's words. You really believe I would accept you back and marry you? Pathetic!” he spat, spooking daggers at me.

My eyes watered as I stared at the unfailing spite in his eyes. His eyes were heavy with anger and I realized there was really nothing left for us.

He poked my chest aggressively, pushing me back with his finger driving deep into my flesh. He continued pushing me until my back hit the wall, then he brought his face really close to mine and grinned.

“I already rejected you, so stay out of my life. I won't be this nice next time, pretty.” He said snickering, slapping my cheeks with an ugly grin plastered on his face.

Words deserted me and I could only sneer at his back as he walked out pridefully, knowing he still had control over me.

My legs wobbled and just when they were about to give way I met my dad's stern eyes. He approached me with a cold gaze and brought out his hand, offering to help me up.

As he pulled me up I saw the disappointment in his face, he was embarrassed that I was being treated like a fugitive and that hurt me the most.

“I will marry him.” I said out of the blue, causing my dad to jolt.

I am going to prevent him from getting what he so much desires until he sees me again. I will not stop.

“Are you sure about this?” My Dad inquired. Worry slowly slipped into his face.

I stared back with disbelief. “Isn't this what you always wanted? For me to put on your armor and claim back what is mine?” My voice cracked as I gasped at him.

“Yes.” He scratched his brows. “That is what I wanted for you, but do you really want this? Remember, once you're in there's no going back. There's going to be many bridges on the way.” He rushed.

Why was he sounding like he didn't want me to marry Calyx anymore? Is he perhaps shaken because of the situation he found me in minutes ago?

His hands gripped my shoulders and he bent to my level. “Listen Ayla, torment is the worst thing I would want from you and with the way I saw you and Calyx– I'm having mixed thoughts.”

I was stunned.

“You are not sending me to hell. I am doing this for me, I cannot watch Calyx live his life peacefully while I'm here dying slowly.”

“Ayla, that is revenge.” My dad cautioned.

“I do not care! He brought this upon himself, so it's even better we face it together.” I shouted and ran into the house.

As I ran I could feel my dad's confused eyes ogling after me. My Dad was right, I knew full well what I was getting myself into but I was filled with jealousy and anger.

I pushed the door open and slammed it angrily without a care if it gets damaged. Slowly, I crawled to my knees, resting my back on the door as I clutched my heart.

Tears glistened in my eyes causing me to go blind for some seconds. I rub off the tears with the back of my palm, drawing in the mucus drifting from my nose.

“How could you Calyx? We were in love. How could you suddenly turn your back against me?

What can Carla possibly offer you that I can't? Just why are you doing this to me when you know how much pain it is going to cause me. Why? why?!”

I bashed the door with my bare fist, hitting it non stop as I cried my eyes out.

A thought crossed my mind and I stopped. My eyes darted to my wardrobe and I sprang up, heading towards it. My hands hurriedly pulled it open, and I threw out my clothes, searching for the dress Calyx gifted me. He wanted me to wear it on his coronation.

My lips pulled into a grin. “This is perfect.” I muttered, hugging the dress to my chest.

Let's see what kind of sound comes out of you when you see me in this!
