Ang kuwentong ito ay tungkol sa isang Italyano-Pilipinong mestisa na gustong ibaon sa limot ang pagiging isang bampira at ninais mamuhay ulit ng karaniwan bilang isang tao. Mula sa mga magagandang kuwento ng kanyang yumaong ina, naisipan ni Carmela Salvanza na manirhan at simulan uli ang ibig na pangkaraniwang pamumuhay sa isang bansang tinawag na Felipinas (dating pangalan ng Pilipinas noon), sa bayang ipinangalang Santa Lucia kung saan ang siyang lupang tinubuan ng kanyang ina. Lingid sa kaalaman na siya ay isang bampira, tinanggap siya ng kanyang nag iisang tiyuhin na si Don Graciano Agoncillo kung saan naman nakilala niya at naranasan ang mainit na pagtanggap nang masaya at karaniwang pamilya nito.
