On the third day after my death, my body was sent to the police station in different packages. Jonathan Walsh, my husband, and Frank Stone, my junior at work, saw my corpse and frowned. “If only Elena were here, she would have been able to find some clues.” Frank sighed as he stared at my horribly mangled remains. “Don’t mention her. She’s not even worthy of being a forensic scientist!” I stared at my husband with a conflicted look. He analyzed each part of my body and deduced the manner of my death with familiar ease. “The murderer is a monster…” Frank’s face turned pale, and he sighed again. Jonathan calmly used all that I had taught him and perfectly pieced out the entire process of my death based on the clues from my dismembered body. I could not help but feel proud. Unfortunately, he was still a little off the mark. He did not manage to figure out that this body belonged to me, his wife.

********* « Es-tu vraiment venu ici pour me dire que tu étais avec une autre femme avec laquelle tu as couché et que tu as mise enceinte ? » « Quoi ? » C’est Timothée qui parle, sa voix laisse transparaître son choc alors que son regard passe de moi à Kaïs. Le regard habituellement impassible de Kaïs reste le même, comme s’il n’était pas affecté par mes paroles et la douleur qu’il m’a causée. « Ne faisons pas ça ici, Lucie. Tu sais que je ne peux pas simplement la laisser. » Je ricane. « Je ne t’en ai jamais empêché. Tu sais quoi ? Tu n’aurais jamais dû venir ici. Tu aurais dû rester avec elle puisque c’est là où se trouve ta loyauté maintenant et que je ne suis plus dans le jeu. » Kaïs fronce les sourcils, s’approche et m’intimide un peu avec sa taille et son imposante carrure : « Qu’est-ce que cela veut dire ? Tu es ma femme. » « Ex-femme, » je dis ces mots sans même y réfléchir. Je n’ai pas pensé à tout ça mais je m’en moque car tout mon être semble être d’accord sur le fait que c’est le mieux pour moi. « Je veux un divorce, Kaïs. » Ses yeux s’écarquillent, incapables de contenir le choc face à mes paroles, et je suis fière de moi, d’avoir finalement obtenu une réaction qui n’est ni de la colère ni de la froideur. « Les papiers de divorce et ma démission te parviendront bientôt. » J’ajoute avant qu’il ne puisse se remettre de son choc, et je n’attends pas qu’il réponde tandis que je me tourne vers Timothée, qui est tout aussi stupéfait. « Ramène-moi chez moi, Timothée. »
