CHAPTER 61

Dante Theo was a menace. In another world, he would've been a bully. Heck, he might be a bully to someone somewhere. But in the training field? The guy knew his shit. And even better, he knew how to make you want to die from his shit. By the time training was over, my legs felt like they belonged to someone else and every bone in my body screamed out in protest. I was glad to see I wasn't the only one though. I heard one of the girls say this was going to be her last time here. None of the guys said anything of the sort but I knew some of them wouldn't be coming back either. I was on the verge of quitting too, but I didn't want to see that smug look on Theo's face directed at me. He'd pushed me harder than I could bear the previous day. Or well it seemed so. Like he was trying to get me to quit. I wasn't sure why. Maybe because he thought I was weak and didn't want me to end up like Victor? Or maybe he just didn't like my face. Either way, I wasn't going to quit. And I wasn'

CHAPTER 62

Asher Get up!Get up!Get the fuck up you dumbass! You aren't going to die like this! My eyes flew open and then promptly shut back when the rogue hunters fists connected with them. I tried to raise my hands to block him out but I couldn't. He was kneeling on them. Every part of my body screamed out in agony as the rogue hunter punched and tore into me repeatedly. I should be dead. I wasn't. “Yes, you aren't. I'm keeping you alive fuckwad!”Dean? He was back?! “Dean! What…” “No time buddy. You're healing faster than he can keep up with, but it's not going to last long so get your ass up and fight!”I didn't need to be told twice. I roared, feeling the tendons in my wrist stretch as my claws broke free. I was a werewolf once more. The rogue hunter stopped for a second in his assault. A second was all I needed. Putting every drop of energy left into it, I heaved myself up and head butted him. He reeled back enough to let my hands loose and I struck a punch into his face, sending

CHAPTER 63

Asher I waited. The heart in my hands pulsed rapidly then paused. It pulsed again. Once, twice. And then it stopped finally. Still I waited. The boy lay at my feet, chest split open, mouth curved into a shocked “O”, but I waited. “I think he's dead, Asher,” Dean whispered. “I know.” “Okay. So uh, I know you want to admire your handiwork and really I do too, but I can hear Liam stirring and we need to get rid of the body.” “I'm not admiring my handiwork.” I squatted beside the body and lay the heart in his hands. “Kinda looks like you are.” “He's supposed to transform,”I said, sounding so unsure. “Into a wolf?” Dean sounded like he was talking to a petulant child and rubbing out of patience. “This can't be him. This can't be the hunter that has been chasing us for six years. He barely looks sixteen.” I raised my hands to the boy's face and drew his eyelids closed. “Can we worry about this later? Preferably on our way to dispose of the body?” Dean was right. I could

CHAPTER 64

Asher “Our mate.” I repeated deadpan, but even as I said the words, I felt a flush of desire come over me. Dante. With his soft lips and those light brown eyes of his that sucked me in. I wanted to see those eyes half closed in pleasure. Wanted to see his lips tremble as I drove him over the edge. Wanted…. “Oh for fuck’s sake Dean!” I grunted in exasperation. “What? I wasn't doing anything Asher.” I was about to say something else, but the serious tone of his voice stopped me. He wasn't joking. “Let's just get this over with,” I grumbled and tried to focus on the task at hand. “I need him Asher. I yearn to be close to him,” Dean whined. “Goddamit. Can we talk about this later?” I heaped the sand with furious vigour. “No. We can't. I just came back from a traumatic experience and I need my mate.” “Glad to see you acknowledge he's your mate and not mine. We're making progress.” Heavy sarcasm laced my words. “You say that, but those thoughts right now were yours not mine.

CHAPTER 65

DanteI almost couldn't get out of bed the next morning. My body felt amy legs just wouldn't move. When it finally did, the pain was almost too much to bear. They could barely hold up my weight, but I managed to drag myself out of bed and to the bathroom to get prepared for class. I'd vowed not to miss class anymore. I liked school. I liked learning and right now, my behaviour towards classes so far didn't reflect that. Mrs Porter certainly seemed to think so and I was out to prove her wrong. The trick to dealing with the pain, I realized, was to move slowly and move less. Get things done with less movement than you would normally. Difficult at first but I managed. This didn't apply for walking of course. There was no way around that save for, you know, not walking at all. I kinda hoped not to run into Mateo today. I didn't have the patience to deal with crazy today. Maybe not so crazy, but I didn't want to think of werewolves or creatures of the night who left claw marks on my

CHAPTER 66

DANTE I tried sneaking into Mrs porters class, but she caught me, giving me a disapproving look that made me feel weird in my stomach, and I actively tried to avoid her gaze, but it was like it was piercing through my soul.“You're late,” she said, crossing her hands.I gulped down on my saliva, trying hard to avoid her gaze. “I'm sorry about that, Mrs Porter. I had some emergency to deal with and wasn't able to make it on time,” I explained.I could tell that she wasn't buying my story. I didn't need her to though, I just wanted to go through this class and other ones, and then go back home, study and get a good night's sleep. She shrugged. “I'd pardon you for today, but if you come late again, you'd be meeting with the vice chancellor,” she warned.I nodded in response, making my way towards the little entrance that led to my chair. I sat down, trying to process everything that she was teaching. I tried hard to listen to everything that she was saying, but at the same time my mind

CHAPTER 67

ASHERI stopped on my tracks when I noticed something unusual. I checked the spot that caught my attention, not surprised to see that it was some belongings. Maybe it belonged to a passerby or some traveller. I walked past it, but a sense of deja vu hit me. Almost like, I had seen that bag somewhere and I was trying my best to recall it, but couldn't.“Check it then. Argh!” Dean groaned out of frustration.I rolled my eyes at his statement, but curiosity killed the cat. I checked and recalled it in a matter of seconds, it was the place where I had caught Mateo spying on me. A smirk formed on my lips as I thought about that pathetic prick.I bent down, checking his bags for clues and found nothing, but there was something else that caught my attention. My eyes darted to the footprints on the ground, leading me to the direction he went in. He must have not gone far.“Are we really going to look for that asshole instead? Don't we have important things to do?” Dean whined.“It would only

CHAPTER 68

DANTEI knocked on the door, taking deep breaths. I can't believe I actually showed up here despite mixed feelings. I wanted to turn around to leave, but it was too late, and Amir opened up the door. A smirk appeared on his face. “Look who it is?” He chuckled lightly. “I never thought you'd actually show up. Who knew you cared about Asher that much?”I rolled my eyes at his statement, this was not what I came here for. “Can we get this over with or would you prefer I leave instead?” I threatened. He continued laughing, irritating the hell out of me. I couldn't take it anymore and was about to leave, but he pulled me back, his laughter ceasing.“Sorry about that, dude,” he apologized. “You know I'm just messing with you, right?”He punched me slightly on the arm. I tried ignoring it, acting like it was nothing, but deep inside I was still kind of offended. He led me to the living room where Mateo was seated. We maintained eye contact for a second before Slyder broke the silence.“Can we

CHAPTER 69

DANTEI tell myself I don’t care about Asher.I tell myself I’m just going to the gym to clear my mind, to focus on something other than the mess my life has become.I tell myself a lot of things. But none of them fucking matter the moment I step inside and see him.He was standing near the lockers, his black tank top damp with sweat, clinging to his body in a way that makes my throat dry. His curly black hair is slightly damp too, strands falling into his face as he tilts his head, laughing at something.I don’t know why I stopped walking.I don’t know why my fingers tighten around my water bottle, why I suddenly feel like I shouldn’t be here. And then I see him. Some blonde guy. Tall, built, confident. And way too close. My stomach tightens as I watch the guy casually rest a hand on Asher’s arm, fingers lingering a second too long, and Asher lets him. Something sharp twists in my chest. I should walk away. I should not care. But I do.I try to ignore them, forcing myself to keep wal

CHAPTER 70

DANTEThe library was dead silent. It always was at this time of the night. Most students didn’t stick around after dark, but I liked the quiet. No one bumping into me. No distractions. Just me, my books, and the hum of the flickering overhead lights.I stacked my notes into my backpack, stretching as I stood up. My back was stiff from hunching over my laptop for hours, and my eyes burned from staring at the screen for too long. I glanced at my phone, it was 11:47 P.M.Damn. I wasn’t meant to stay this late.I slung my bag over my shoulder and made my way toward the exit. The library felt different at night. The long, empty rows of bookshelves cast weird shadows, and the dim emergency lights near the doors gave everything a bluish glow.I shook off the eerie feeling creeping up my spine. It was just my imagination.Pushing the heavy doors open, I stepped out into the cold night air. The campus was practically deserted. A few distant streetlights flickered, casting long, twisting shado
