CHAPTER 31

Dante Mateo was livid. He was more pissed about the fact that I hadn't called him immediately than the fact that my nose looked and felt like a sad little raisin. I listened to him rant about how Asher had no regard for authority or simple human decency and how the disciplinary committee should have been more brutal in their punishment. I couldn't care less about any of that. The throbbing in my nose had reduced to a dull ache and my head was beginning to swim with the buttload of painkillers I'd been given. The clinic attendant had been kind and caring but firm and swift. I had no idea what she intended to do until she did it. Thought she was going to feel around the nose or something which she did initially, but then her fingers moved quickly and I heard a loud crack shortly before I felt the pain. Oh God the pain!I had never felt anything like it. My nose was back into place and she smiled, and gave me a thumbs up, but it hurt like hell. It was a hard toss deciding which w

CHAPTER 32

Asher First day of cleanup duty was terrible. I had no trouble with cleaning. In fact, I did it fairly well. I worked as a janitor in various places over the years trying to make money to survive so it wasn't new to me. What was new was having to do cleanup duty while other students giggled and snorted and whispered over your head. No one was bold enough to say anything to my face. No one was bold enough to even giggle when I was close to them. They did that when my back was turned. Word had gotten round that the school authority finally decided to clamp down on my bad behaviour because I'd almost killed a freshman.Yeah right. The boy was a puny. If I wanted him dead, he would have been. But this was college. The true details of a story weren't enough. Exaggerations were common. I wasn't in the mood to scowl or glower at anyone though. The old man I'd met in the forest occupied my thoughts. He'd said to meet at the barn, but he hadn't given me a time. Obviously it was going to

CHAPTER 33

Asher I jumped onto stacks of wood and lunged for another beam beside him. He was a werewolf. He shouldn't be able to die that easily. I was right. He was still breathing but it was faint and shallow. The wooden beam had gone straight through his heart. He should be dead, but his werewolf abilities were still fighting back. They didn't stand a chance though. I knew that, but I had to help him somehow. I had to try. The beam I was balanced on creaked under my weight as I tried to stretch out to reach him. I thought about pulling him off but I didn't know if that was going to make him bleed to death or if his healing abilities would be fast enough to compensate. “Don't bother.” the words were very faint and if I were only human, I might not have heard them. They came from the old man, teetering on the edge of death. “I need to help. Who did this to you? Was it the rogue wolf hunter?” I asked urgently. He coughed out blood weakly and I heard his breath flutter. He nodded once.

CHAPTER 34

Dante Amir was right. Every student belonged to one club or the other. There were all kinds of sports which I had noticed earlier like soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis and more. The campus was huge so there was more than enough space for all of them. But now that I was looking for it, I also noticed other student activities going on. Amir had asked me to accompany him to the economics club but I didn't think that was my speed. I decided to look for a math club. I stumbled upon a flyer for an event the debate society was hosting later that day. Intrigued, I decided to attend. The debate was held in one of the lecture classes hall, and I was surprised to see it wasn't as filled up as I thought it was going to be. I was surprised even further when the debaters climbed the podium and amongst them stood Slyder. She was dressed in a straight black skirt, white shirt and the college jacket. Her hair was tied into a bun on top of her head with tendrils falling over her face and

CHAPTER 35

Dante.I stuffed half my burger into my mouth the next day, trying to quench the hunger that had somehow taken control of my body.I had not had a single thing to eat all day and it was four p.m. A professor had decided to waste my time, making me her assistant today which meant I had to go with her to all of her classes thanks to Slyder for trying to argue with me in class.“Will you slow down, this is your second burger, man,” Mateo said, his eyes fixed on me.“Sorry, man. I'm just really hungry,”“Yes, it is quite clear that you are. What happened? Did you forget to eat breakfast or what?”“Woke up late, skipped breakfast and lunch because Professor Porter made me her assistant for the day. I had to follow her to all her classes as punishment for talking in her class.”Mateo chuckled, shaking his head in amusement.“Not funny, man. I'm starving.”“Why were you talking in class anyway?” Mateo asked, taking a sip of his coke zero.“Slyder. She argues about everything,”“You two are s

CHAPTER 36

Asher The punny kid was in our dorm room. What was he doing here? I had thought he left to one of his little nerd friends and now I find out he's here in our dorm room.“Ah, you are here,” I said, prowling towards him, determined in my stride. He picked up a pillow and put it up in an attempt to prevent me from getting closer to him. His eyes were even closed and his head tilted to the side. This was really who Dean was attracted to? He was a fucking moron.I rolled my eyes at him.“Relax, I'm not going to hit you.” I voiced and he slowly opened his eyes to look at me.“I just came to find my textbook, okay. I'll be out of here in a second,” he blurted out.“What text book?” I asked, vaguely remembering that I had grabbed a book that wasn't mine a couple of nights ago.“Um, ethics…”I gave him a once over. Dean growled within me, warning me not to touch him.“Relax,” I said to Dean but he wasn't having it.“If you hit him again, I'm going to transform in front of him,” Dean voiced.“

CHAPTER 37

DanteAs soon as I got out of the dorm building, I began to hyperventilate. He'd kissed me. Why the fuck did he kiss me? This was sexual harassment, right? That had to be it.I ran my hands through my hair, trying to fight the urge to think about what had just happened. I had been expecting him to shove me, push me. Anything else, but kiss me? That was totally out of line.Out of nowhere, Amir stopped his car in front of me. “Get in,” he said. I did as he told me to without hesitation.“Did you get what you were supposed to get?” He asked.“huh?” I frowned as I got into the passenger's seat.“Your textbook?” He said, igniting the engine and driving it off.“Oh, yeah, yeah,” I nodded, remembering how passionately Asher had kissed me and how I had almost liked it?No, no, no. I didn't like it. I wasn't gay. It would be gay if I liked the taste of another guy's lips, not to mention ridiculous. He was my fucking bully too. Now, that was mental.“Are you okay?” Amir asked, looking between

CHAPTER 38

DanteThe sigh turned into a hiccup of panic as I watched Asher turn and approach me, an unreadable expression on his face.Shit! He was barely three feet away now. I panicked and practically ran the other direction. I ran until I got to my destination. When I finally stopped, I realized just how ridiculous running away had been. To passers-by that saw me, It probably looked like I was being chased by the cop.Goodness, I was such a loser. An irrational anger came over me. How dare he do this to me? How dare he even kiss me? I knew he was into guys, but I thought he hated my guts. Now, not only was I scared of being physically abused by him, I was afraid of being sexually abused.“Thanks mom, this is all your fault for coming here today, now I've completely embarrassed myself,” I muttered under my breath.I made my way to the freezer at the bookstore and took two pints of ice cream and a bottle of red wine for later tonight and some of the things my mom had asked to get her. I really

CHAPTER 39

Asher. The scorching sun of the afternoon made me want to rip off my clothes, transform and run into the woods till I couldn't feel it anymore. I had not expected to meet the kids' mom and girlfriend. They were both cute, but it was obvious as fuck to me that the puny kid didn't love his girlfriend like he claimed.“Someone's jealous,” Dean boldly said, and I wrinkled my nose in annoyance.Jealousy was a strong word. It was just an observation, but Dean was a total ass and was obsessed with his mate.“Not now, Dean,”“Why not? You were clearly jealous especially when he kissed her. It's okay I was jealous too,” he said, annoying me further. Sometimes I wish I could rip him off my consciousness.I scoffed. “Really? I didn't notice. I especially didn't notice when you almost transformed and pounced on the poor girl.”“Well, she thinks our mate belongs to her, I can't have that,” Dean growled.“Actually, that's just her boyfriend, you are the intruder here and can we stop talking about t

CHAPTER 40

AsherI gritted my teeth, the adrenaline kicking in. The rogue hunter had played its games long enough. Tonight, it ended one way or another. The forest was unnaturally silent as I crouched behind a cluster of thick undergrowth. The trap was set a few feet away, ready for its culprit.I could feel the rogue hunter nearby. His scent was faint carried on the soft breeze that rustled the leaves, but it was unmistakable. A musky, bitter odor that reeked of pure malice. Dean stirred restlessly within me, eager to confront the rogue.“Dean, are you ready?” I questioned, watching every direction, wondering where the hunter would come from. He was tricky, fast and cunning, but I was definitely more cunning and that was why I knew this plan would work. Minutes ticked by, stretching endlessly as I waited. The stillness of the night pressed down on me, and I had to remind myself I was doing this for my own good. As long as I was marked, the hunter would not rest.My hands flexed involuntarily,
