Chapter One: Caroline's Mission

“You have to marry the mafia boss, Caroline,” my father announced when I went inside his office. “Make him fall in love with you.”I raised my eyebrows as I closed the door of the office. My father, on the other hand, cleared his throat, intertwined his fingers with each other on the table, and sighed at the very end. He followed me, walking towards his table with my head held high, and sat on the chair in front of him casually.“The mafia boss?” I asked and tilted my head. “Do you mean Dark Vergara?”My father nodded and said, “I heard that he is building establishments in secrecy. No records or news about it publicly, which is odd. I don’t think it will be good for the economy in the city, knowing that he has a huge bad record regarding murder, embezzlement, and theft.”“And?”“I want to know about these establishments. You will be my spy.”“By marrying me off to him?” I echoed and snorted, now crossing my arms. “Do you think that Dark Vergara is an easy prey, Dad?”“You are also no

Chapter Two: Pretentious Act

I pretended to be asleep the whole time the emergency came to the scene. There were clamors of people panicking around me when I was being carried towards the emergency car. The last thing I heard was the hospital staff conversing about which room I would be confined, a doctor being assigned to me, and the nurses tending me to the designated room.“Is she going to be fine, doctor?” a dark, deep voice from entering the door that opened emerged from my hearing.“Are you related to her?” another male voice asked. “Are you her husband?”“No, but I was the one who hit her.” My spine tingled when I realized that it must be Dark Vergara. I cleared my throat in silence and listened to the conversation intently. Dark must be talking with a doctor who was assigned to me.“All in all, she is okay. She seems not to be fractured from any parts of her body; her brain was not damaged; and there were no bruises nor injuries found,” the doctor stated. “Once she wakes up, you can talk to her.”“That’s

Chapter Three: The Beauty of Dark's Mansion

Dark Vergara's eyes sharpened as if analyzing is I was telling the truth. He caressed his jaw between his thumb and index finger. I blinked at him, but not repeatedly, for it indicated that I could lie."So you are telling me that you just went with a stranger, knowing that you have complete amnesia?" he asked as his conclusion. "And the doctor did not even have a say in this? Where was your family? Friends? A boyfriend, perhaps?"Why does he have so many questions?I almost rolled my eyes, but I looked the other way so he does not have to see it.Well, what if I give him a little show?I acted like my head hurt, so I placed both my hands on the sides of my head and started to groan in pain as if I was suffering. I stealthily glanced at him and saw him widen his eyes, flinch, and was bothered by my reaction. The next thing I knew, he was already holding my shoulders gently, guiding me to sit up on the hospital bed."What happened?" he asked worriedly and turned to the door of the room

Chapter Four: Silent Lunch

Dark Vergara's car stopped in front of the mansion. A servant descended the stairs towards the entrance as if waiting for Dark's command. He then suddenly looked at me with his cold brown eyes. "We will eat lunch," Dark said. "After that, we will discuss the conditions I'd give you as you live under my roof.""Sure, sir," I said formally. He did not say anything and went outside the car. Without further ado, he also went ahead and circled to open my door and helped me get out. My curiosity and amazement urged me to venture my gaze into the whole place of his mansion surrounding it. The servant took his briefcase and proceeded to walk inside the huge mansion. Of course, I did not have a choice but to follow him. "Wow," I mumbled in astonishment under my breath when I held the door and stared at the wide interior of the mansion. There was a grand staircase in front of me that would lead to the second floor. A lot of expensive antiques, paintings, and furniture also filled the interio

Chapter Five: Jachrimo Reyes

"Do you think he is going to investigate us?" the man that Dark was talking to spoke. "I feel like his target is you, sir.""Hmmm," Dark hummed, "Mr. Dela Vega is very devoted to his job and to the people in this country. I will not doubt that one day, he will be one of the candidates to run for the presidency.""If he becomes the president, do you think we will be in danger? Our operations and missions would be at risk if he meddled in our jobs."I rolled my eyes. What operations and missions? Killing people, smuggling, and doing illegal business?"We are still not sure about that. The majority of the senate is on my side. He could never drag me down that easily," Dark assured his companion.I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth inside my mouth as I eavesdropped on their conversation about my father. With my slow steps towards the grand staircase, I peeked at Dark Vergara and his companion. They were both wearing corporate attire as if indicating that they were from their company.

Chapter Six: Mistaken Room

"Have you already proceeded to meet him?" Dad asked from the other line. I tiptoed towards the huge curtains in the living area and stole a glance from the grand staircase, checking if someone was listening to me. Thank goodness the maids are busy in the pool area, so the living area was deserted. It was only me in the middle of a hot morning. "Yes, Dad," I answered and peeked over the thick, expensive curtains to see the maids cleaning outside. "I am in his mansion, and he is currently in his room. I don't know if he has the agenda for his gang today. Yesterday... everything happened so quickly..."From me planning to be hit by his car, so I could gain his sympathy. Chapter Seven: The Scripted Confrontation

"Here it is..."I paused, watching the television in front of me when Dark just swayed himself over towards my direction. His nonchalant expression greeted me as he placed some women's clothes beside the sofa where I was sitting. I looked up at him and caressed the clothes he had just brought."You can wear all of these while you are here," he said, and demonstrated his hands."These are not new. Whose clothes are these?" I curiously asked when I noticed that there were no tags, and they looked like they were already used.On that question, he avoided his gaze and transferred it to the ongoing show on television. I squinted at his reaction. That was suspicious. "No questions. Just wear them," he said, avoiding the question. "Anyway, are you comfortable here? Or do you want me to transfer you to another room?""No, I am good," I said and smiled. "Tomorrow, we will go to your place where you and your supposed husband reside." I feel like I was caught red-handed. What? Why does he nee

Chapter Eight: Marry Me

I'm thirsty. That was what I thought when I got up in bed and felt my throat so parched in the middle of my sleep. Going to the kitchen was the primary plan I had as I stood up and left my room to drink water. While yawning and going down the staircase, I noticed how dark the mansion was because the lights were all turned off... except the dining hall. I could see it through the hallway, pertaining that someone was still awake. A maid, perhaps? I would not be bothered in either ways since I also interact with them to create a good reputation in this mansion. In that way, they could also respect me as much as they respect Dark.I did not mind a person being in the kitchen, though. I just walked through the silent and eerie hallway. I will gradually see who is awake since I will have to pass by the dining hall before I can get to the refrigerator."S-Sir!" I exclaimed and almost jumped when I saw Dark Vergara sitting on a stool in front of the counter of a small bar. He only raised h
