Chapter Four: Silent Lunch

Dark Vergara's car stopped in front of the mansion. A servant descended the stairs towards the entrance as if waiting for Dark's command. He then suddenly looked at me with his cold brown eyes.

"We will eat lunch," Dark said. "After that, we will discuss the conditions I'd give you as you live under my roof."

"Sure, sir," I said formally.

He did not say anything and went outside the car. Without further ado, he also went ahead and circled to open my door and helped me get out. My curiosity and amazement urged me to venture my gaze into the whole place of his mansion surrounding it. The servant took his briefcase and proceeded to walk inside the huge mansion. Of course, I did not have a choice but to follow him.

"Wow," I mumbled in astonishment under my breath when I held the door and stared at the wide interior of the mansion.

There was a grand staircase in front of me that would lead to the second floor. A lot of expensive antiques, paintings, and furniture also filled the interior. I expected people or family relatives of his would greet me just like my sister and my father would stay in the living area, but I only found maids that were cleaning the area.

"Hey..."

I suddenly looked at where he was and found him peeking over me from a hallway. He was raising his eyebrows sarcastically and casually raised his arms like confused or something.

"Why are you still there? Do you not have plans to follow me?" he asked.

"O-Oh, of course," I said and immediately went to him.

Dark sighed heavily before continuing walking when he was assured that I was following him. The servant who held his briefcase was already gone. It was the only two of us walking in a short hallway that led to the dining hall with no words exchanged with each other. There were already plates of delicacies placed on the table that were served by the maids with their neat blue uniforms and expressionless faces. They greeted Dark, and he greeted them back when he sat in the capital chair.

Not the typical rude man, huh? He seems to have respect and does not disregard ordinary people... just like what he is thinking of me right now. I am only a typical commoner with no clear memories about her past, an abused wife in a domestic home, and almost a corpse, for being hit by his car - when, in fact, I am a spy who will reveal all of his dark secrets to his villainous gang.

"Find your seat, Miss-?" he trailed off and must have realized that he still did not know my name, now waiting for me to reveal it.

"Oh, I am Rose," I answered. "That is the name my husband told me."

"I see," he said, not slightly interested in my name from his austere reaction, could not care less and took care of his table napkin. "We should eat now."

Seeing the usual dishes I see in our mansion made my mouth water and my appetite emerge. I disliked the foods from the hospital, but I did not want myself to be exposed as picky and sassy. Of course, I had to act ignorant, insensible, and innocent to win the mafia boss' empathy. I have to make him fall in love with me - that is my goal.

"Uhhh, thank you very much for welcoming me here," I said in a small voice as I sat beside his capital chair. "If you do not mind, may I know your name?"

"Dark," he simply said and glanced at me for a second before holding his utensils so he could eat. "I am Dark Vergara."

I know. And you are my target, Mr. Vergara.

"O-Oh, Dark Vergara? You have a thrilling name that would make one shiver in fear," I commented, and also began to prepare to eat by touching the utensils at the sides of my empty plate in front of me. "You seem rich because you have a big mansion, Mr. Vergara. What do you do? Do you have a business?"

"I don't think you should be concerned about that, Miss Rose," he said without looking at me. "What you should be focusing on is how you can regain your memory so you can come back to your family. In that way, I can return you to them safe and sound."

Oooppss, he is very restricted from telling me anything about him, then... for now!

"After you eat, I will make you escort you by a maid to your supposed room. Feel free to report to me if you remember something, so I can help you find your memories, okay?" he added.

"You... are very kind," I replied with a shy, awkward smile.

Aaannndddd... he did not speak any more again. He just focused on filling himself with the lunch dishes in front of us. I did the same thing. Silence engulfed us and only the utensils were the ones making sounds inside the dining halls with the maids serving courses.

Ugh, this will not work like this. I am not a talker myself, and he is also the same. But it's fine. I will just have to warm up first.

Dark was not obligated to tell me where he was going in the first place, so one of the maids just escorted me to the guest room that was designated for me while he left the mansion wherever else, without even informing me. I did not have anything but the diary that I was holding against my chest. The guest room was large when I came in, and the bed was comforting to sit on. The whole room was already air-conditioned; the chocolate brown satin curtains flowed on the white tiles; one black sofa was at the edge of the bed with two black pillows sitting; the wardrobe was lovely; and the shower room had a clean scent when I checked inside.

Wow, they must have prepared this one for me...

After I took a shower, I dozed off on the bed after feeling its comfort and warmth. I had just woke up when someone knocked on my door. Before approaching the door, I yawned and stretched both of my arms to see who was outside.

"Ma'am, Mr. Vergara wants you in the dining hall. It is time for dinner," a young maid informed me and smiled.

"Oh," I exclaimed. "Then I will go downstairs."

The maid merely nodded lightly before turning her back on me. My smile immediately vanished into a fierce frown and began to take the hallway to step on the grand staircase towards the wide living area of the mansion. But as I neared the steps, a pile of laughter echoed from where I was.

"You should see how Senator Carlos Dela Vega acted suspicious about our business' liquidation during the annual conference when, in fact, he does not know anything," a strange man commented while laughing.

"Let him be astray with his stupidity," Dark's voice rang in my ears.

What? Senator Carlos Dela Vega? Why are they talking about my father?
