Chapter Ten: He Made Me Feel So Ugly!

“Let’s go out.”

I was reading a book from the library when Dark knocked on the door. I immediately closed the book when he appeared he looked at what I was reading. A smile plastered on my lips as I regarded him.

“Oh, where are we going?” I asked with mandatory enthusiasm to avoid suspicions.

“At the mall. We will buy a dress for you,” he said.

“But why?”

“Dinner in Baguio,” he said. “Jachrimo is already there.”

“And do you mind if I ask why we are going to Baguio? It is too far… and cold,” I suggested and tilted my head.

“A celebration,” he answered briefly answered and turned his back on me. “You’d better be ready next minute.”

My face was disgruntled as I followed him with my glares. He talked to a maid before going his way. The maid, on the other hand, escorted me to my room and gave me the privacy to change.

Sometimes, he is sweet. Sometimes, he is just a pure asshole. I could stand his cousin more than him. He wanted me to be his wife, and yet, I could not even go closer to him.

But well, I don’t intend to be closer to him, anyway. The moment we get married, I will be able to locate their headquarters when he introduces me to his gang. My father would be able to identify the mafia boss’ intentions and his secret establishments in the city. After that, I would not be able to doubt that I would assassinate him.

My targets in the record do not end well.

I wore a simple dress that felt like it was only for Sunday masses. It was not my type, but this will match the innocence as my façade to manipulate him. I don’t have any idea how he chose these types of dresses when clearly, these are for only nerds. I am not a nerd. I am a queen bee! Even in my college days, I was a campus crush.

Even though I was protesting deep inside me, I continued dressing up. I put light makeup on, combed my hair after drying it, and wore mediocre heels that would match my outfit.

When I was done dressing up, I looked at myself in the mirror. Simple, delicate, and innocent. Perfect, I must say. After removing a small smudge of lipstick from the left side of my lips, I walked towards the door of my room to open it.

“Did you see Dark?” I asked the maid who was wiping the railings off the floor.

“He is already at the entrance of the mansion, ma’am,” she informed me. “Would you like to be escorted?”

I shook my head. “No, thanks,” I said and flipped my hair before going downstairs.

The mansion was empty and silent. How much more if Dark and I would go to Baguio? It would be so hunted. But well, he has the maids.

I wonder what happened to his family, though. I suddenly remembered that his parents were killed.

And Layla… who the fuck is Layla?

While I was thinking about it, I could already see Dark Vergara who was on a phone call. His stoic expression was implemented around his face. A serious topic, I contemplated. He must have heard my heels, so he turned to me unconsciously.

I smiled as I stopped in my tracks so he could analyze what I was wearing. I even turned around as he just hovered his gaze over my body.

“Well, do I look okay?” I asked.

I saw how he ticked his jaw, an unknown type of pain went through his eyes, and clenched his fists. Because of his complicated reaction, I had to stop.

“Why? Is there a problem?” I added my question.

I knew I was not gorgeous because of this stupid dress, but I was confident that I was not ugly! How could he bestow that stupid expression? It made me feel like I was really ugly in his eyes!

Dark avoided his gaze and ended the call from his phone. Without saying anything, he opened the door of his car and stashed his other hand in his pocket. I had to roll my eyes and could not help myself but to hiss. I feel so offended!

I went inside his car without talking to him. He did the same when he finally sat in the driver’s seat and turned the engine on. I was frowning the whole time because his silence irritated me a lot. We arrived at the mall minutes later, and he parked his car in the parking lot.

“Come outside now,” he said and opened the door for me again.

I rolled my eyes, and I made sure that he saw it. He furrowed his eyebrows and blinked.

“Woah, what was that?” he mumbled.

“What?” I asked in a stoic voice.

“Why are you rolling my eyes at me?”

“What? What are you talking about? Why would I roll my eyes at you?”

But the sarcasm was very obvious. I could not hide it because I was annoyed at him. I started walking towards the entrance of the mall while clenching my fists.

I hate it when someone makes me feel like I am so ugly. What was with his stares, by the way? He made me wear this dress, and he looked at me like he was in distress.

Goodness, I cannot even stand this man!

“Rose!” he called me as he stalked behind me. “Wait for me!”

I heard his car’s alarm, locking it. I was already nearing the entrance, when I gasped at how aggressively he pulled my arm as I bumped into his chest hard. I looked up and was about to reprimand him, but I heard the roar of a car behind me as he glared at the vehicle.

That was when I realized that I was almost killed by it while I was passing by.
