Chapter 11

Leneora POVMy mind was filled with millions of thoughts; however, I wasn't afraid. Anyone in his condition would be upset. I wasn't moved by his outburst; instead, I breathed deeply and started thinking about my options.Trent was oblivious that Sasha hadn't been around; if she had, she would have come see him since. I had already spoken to her earlier when I met her absence in the office; it was unusual of her; she was always here early. Very early..“She isn't at work today,” I answered calmly. I wished he would listen. “She had called but you didn't pick; she sent messages and emails to you too, and HR had already approved her sick for seven working days,” I explained, looking through his eyes. It was as if I was already getting used to his anger; even when he wasn't going through a critical situation, he had never been patient with me, just within the few days of working at Knights Industries. He uttered no words, but his gaze was fixed on me. I could see his face twisted with a

Chapter 12

Yvonne’s Point of ViewThe room became colder as I watched her reaction. My eyes watched her quick movements swiftly. I was sure she had definitely done something, especially with the way she long pressed the power button on Trent's laptop and closed it off, pushing it to the other end of the desk. She quickly changed her actions by picking up the papers one after the other, ignoring me and my questions. She tried to shift the papers in her hand like she was making an excuse to leave. It really made me feel suspicious. Her face was blank, however, I could sense the tension under it. “Is it that you're deaf? I asked what exactly you are doing on Trent's laptop!” I demanded furiously again, already losing patience as my heels slammed and echoed to the marble floor towards her. "I wasn’t doing anything," she said, her voice too soft for my liking. She clutched the papers like they were her shield, then quickly made strides towards the door. My eyes followed every step; I felt disgusted

Chapter 13

Lenore’s Point of ViewI sigh deeply when I go back to my desk, as my heart is still racing hard. I have picked some papers and documents I didn't need on Trent's desk just for me to hide the contract invitation paper well. I didn't want Yvonne to see it, and I was glad it was well hidden, and she didn't seem to notice anything out of the ordinary, and it made me feel relieved. I tried to calm down and began orchestrating my next step for the upcoming meeting. I picked up the contract invitation papers and began to skim through them, absorbing all the critical details, and it wasn't difficult to comprehend. After all, I had a Phd in business administration. I should have become the CEO of Reed Enterprises right now; however, I wanted to prove something—to build my own wealth and reputation. I didn't want to live off my father's wealth. Some few minutes later, I had gathered all the information I needed; however, I wanted more. still satisfied, i still wanted more, then I thought mayb

Chapter 14

**Chapter 13: Trent’s Point of View**I walked out of the office with rage; every one of my steps was heavier as the doctor’s words reverberated in my head. “He has lost consciousness, and he would need to be supported by oxygen.” The words made me go crazy, and the thought hits me harder each second. I was unsure of how to proceed. As I got to the lobby, I saw Pete, my driver, walked swiftly to me; he took permission yesterday for something delicate. His mother was critically ill; he just returned today. “Drive me to the hospital,” I said without any second thought. Pete's eyes were filled with concern as he asked. “Are you alright, sir?” “I’m fine!” I lied; my voice was flat and emotionless. “My father is dying! He fast with the drive!” I added. Pete was mute; he didn't bother saying anything anymore. He was well familiar with me. He was more than just a driver; he is my most trusted ally. He could easily read my mood, and he was sure of when silence was the only thing I needed

Chapter 15

Leneora POVI stood motionlessly; I couldn't help but process the shock of the termination mail sent to me; my stomach bubbled with a whirlwind of emotions. And I began to question myself unnecessary. “Did Trent hate me so much? Did he despised me to the point where he wanted me to go just for trying to help Knight Industries? I gawked blankly at the email on my phone; my hands trembled slightly as I scrolled up and down, reading the words over and over again. “Terminated,” The word was heavy as I called it out, almost choking me; however, I didn't want it to break me, not yet. I closed my eyes for some moments and whispered to myself. “No, Trent doesn't mean it. He was just angry and upset with his father's situation,” I said, believing that Trent wouldn't just terminate my appointment because I wanted him to attend the conference. His father was in the hospital, and he was going through the stress of everything that has gotten deeply to him; he wouldn't just want to fire me just l

Chapter 16

Trent's POV My eyes stared at the screen of my phone, and the email notification gawked straight at me. “Termination Letter Retracted. Report to work immediately.” I had sent a message to the HR earlier to retract the termination letter of Leneora. He had sent me and copied me right inside it. I needed to see Lenore, especially after everything she had done for the company.I inhaled deeply and tossed my phone on my desk as I rested my back in my chair. My office was dark; it was only brightened by the street light that flickered through the window. The clock on the wall kept ticking away every second; however, it was as if the time was slower tonight. Every second stretched into forever as my thoughts reverberated through the past few weeks. Lenore Reed. Thinking about her name provoked me unnecessarily and made some sort of frustration run through me. She was the last person I wanted to have the thought; however, she couldn't stop crawling into my head. She has a way of getting un

Chapter 17

Yvonne POVI had left Trent's office after sitting for a while and getting no clue about his whereabouts; I wanted to go to the hospital to see him. However, I was skeptical about if he would be in the hospital or not. I had contacted him many times, and he wouldn't pick up my calls. I didn't know if all was well with him. I was a bit concerned about him; however, I felt relieved when my father informed me he wasn't present in the meeting, and it prompted me to go back home. I got home and wrapped myself inside my white duvet; the weather was somewhat cold. And I felt like seeing some nice movie, just to clear off my brain. I was in the position, and I drifted into a long sleep. When I woke up, I realized that I had missed some calls on my phone; my father had called me too, and then my phone buzzed and a notification popped up in the news.“Knight Industries wins a multimillion-dollar contract!” I immediately jolted upright from my seat, my heart raced in succession. As I clicked th

Chapter 18

My finger formed into a curl around the stem of my wine glass, and I felt tensed a bit. “I'm not,” I replied as I tried to keep my voice steady. “I just underestimated her!” His lips opened slightly and formed into a smile. He folded the newspaper and then placed it down on the table. “Underestimated? It doesn't sound like the word I like to hear from you!” I stared at him for quite a moment and hated the way he sometimes made me feel like a child. No matter how much I accomplished.“I will fix it,” I responded firmly. “She will never win.”. He raised his eyes, his eyebrow furrowed; he was clearly not impressed. “His secretary is a big problem,” he said firmly as he leaned forward a bit. “Deal with her before she becomes bigger!”. I understand what my father meant. I knew he didn't mince words; however, his solutions were always brutal, and I wasn't ready to take things that far. Not even now. “I have got things under control!” I insisted; however, I could feel the unassurance in

Chapter 19

George Reed POVMy face was brightened with a smile at the sound of Lenore's car pulling into the driveway. I had been waiting for her to be home. I was proud of her today's accomplishments. Winning such a tremendous contract for Knight Industries wasn't a small feat, and I was so delighted with how she had handled everything. As she walked through the glass front door, I stood up firm in my exotic armchair and walked towards her. I stretched my arms towards her for a hug. Her face was screaming of exhaustion, and her shoulder slumped as her eyes were slightly dimmed by the long they had been through. However, I could still see and feel the quite strength that hung behind her exhausted expression.“That's my superstar!" I said warmly as I pulled her towards me for a hug. “You did incredibly well today, Lenore, and I am super proud of you!” Her lips parted, and she let out a big smile; however, it was a weary one. Her arms were slightly loose as she gave me a brief hug. “Dad, thank y

Chapter 20

After I dropped Yvonne's call, I felt really bad for her. My dad's plight had made me distant from her; however, I was glad she understood my situation. My mind wouldn't be able to focus elsewhere for now, not even on Yvonne. My only focus now was on my father; his health is the number one priority to me; everything else would have to wait. I sigh heavily as I lean back and rest my back on the chair. “Pete, drive faster to the hospital,” I instructed my driver. I needed to see my dad as soon as possible. I need to tell him all that was achieved today. As we drove past the city light, I felt the pain deeper in my heart. If my father was well, we would be celebrating the success of the contract by now. Knight Villa would be lit with joy, and a big party would be hosted and everyone will be gathered for the celebration. Dad always loved to throw major events whenever Knights Industries secured a major contract. And he would raise his glass gently, proud, and be beamed with a sweet grin
