Chapter 21: dinner

Chapter 21 Logan’s POV I was satisfied with the fact that I was able to get done with all that I needed to just in time to get back to the villa and still arrive at the staff dinner at an appropriate timing. I got into my Mercedes that was parked in the staff parking lot of the office and sped off. In less than an hour, I arrived at the villa. I walked into the mansion and spotted Abigail sitting crossed leg on the sofa with a novel in her hand. A new hobby she had developed to keep herself entertained. “We are going out. Get dressed, quickly” I said, immediately I entered the house. She yelped at the sound of my voice, it was obvious that she was deeply immersed in the book and didn’t even know I had stepped in. “Out?” She asked curiously. “You didn’t see my text?” I asked, having a feeling that it’s very likely she didn’t. At that moment she picked up her phone, her mouth forming into a small ‘o’ in realisation. “Hmm” I nodded, “come on, let’s go upstairs and ge

Chapter 22: Camilla

Chapter 22Abigail’s POV I shifted uncomfortably beside Logan as he introduced me to his father. “Good day, sir” I greeted the aged looking man, who had no resemblance to Logan at all. He had sparse dark hair peppered with grey hairs too, a sign that he was aged, but overall he looked well put together. I felt his sharp gaze on me, as he studied me for a moment, sizing me up. After a few seconds, I saw a fatherly smile form on his face. “Good day, my dear” he said, his voice gentle. “We would have a proper introduction later” he said, then glanced at Logan briefly. Logan offered him a short nod and after that he walked away, disappearing into the crowd. I really didn’t know how to feel about the whole interaction that just played out. I didn’t know the kind of impression I had left or the message Logan had passed across with the manner at which he introduced me.“I will be right back” Logan said, and I watched as he swiftly made his way through the crowd.I settled on the seat and

Chapter 23: betrothed

Chapter 23 Logan’s POVI knew the exact reason my father requested I wait behind. It was quite obvious that he had a lot of questions. From the questioning gaze he gave me when I introduced Abigail to the angry looking Camilla that stood behind him when he approached us a minute ago. It was quite obvious that Camilla had reported me to my father. And I was ready for whatever questions he was going to throw at me. I know Abigail must be wondering who Camilla is to me. Well, a stupid agreement made by my father and his business associate two years ago led to Camilla being betrothed to me. When it was announced, I made sure I stated that I wasn’t interested in having a relationship with Camilla, but nobody seemed to listen to me. They were all interested in the future union of the families.According to them, ‘Logan was going to have a change of mind soon. Men can’t resist charming ladies like Camilla” But it’s been two years and I have managed to prove them wrong multiple times. But

Chapter 24: desperation

Chapter 24Logan’s POV I waited for my father’s response. Most people will describe my behaviour towards Camilla as being mean and inconsiderate. But, I managed to see beneath the mask Camilla wears like a second skin and all I see when I stare at Camilla, is a manipulative person who will go to any extent to get what she wants.I do not foresee a future with such a type of person. Not in this life and definitely not in my next life. “Son,” my father called out in a warning tone. “I understand what you speak of but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make out time for your betrothed fiancée” I tried my best to conceal the feeling of disgust I felt at the sound of that. “Your mother and I took our precious time in giving you the training necessary to start and maintain your family, bless her soul.” My father paused for her while. “And that includes managing your career and your family life” “Yes, father. And I am doing just that.” I said, defending myself. “Camilla has just been too a

Chapter 25: visitation

Chapter 25Abigail’s POVI had a lot of unspoken questions yesterday. The entire action of the snobbish looking girl and the way she acted towards Logan stirred up a lot of questions within me. My guess was that maybe she was his girlfriend or someone he had a crush on because I saw the way she glared at me when Logan intertwined his arms with mine. If looks could kill, I’m sure I would have been six feet under by now. As much as Logan tried to conceal the tired look on his face the previous night, I could still tell that he was probably stressed about whatever discussion he had with his father and that girl. I really appreciated his gesture of excusing me from the entire conversation. It would have been an uncomfortable and weird situation for me. I sprayed perfume lightly on my neck and wrist, the vanilla scent of the perfume overpowering the room. I was going to visit my mother today at the hospital. Logan had left the villa very early as usual. I had informed him earlier that

Chapter 26: catching up

Chapter 26Abigail's POVI stayed with mother till visiting hours were over then I boarded a cab back to the villa. During my journey to the villa, I pondered upon the reason why Helena decided to do what she has been doing and I couldn't come up with any reasonable explanation as to why she was acting that way.In a short while, I arrived at the villa and appreciated Mrs Johnson once again for taking out time to prepare my mother's meal. I went up the stairs and realised that Logan wasn't home yet. I felt a feeling of relief wash over me as he probably won't be aware that I came later than I normally should. Not that he gave any strict warning in particular today.I felt he was becoming a bit more lenient in terms of my freedom and I really appreciated that. The simple act of him handing over his keys to me the previous night showed that he indeed had developed some sort of trust in me.Even If I had it in mind to run away yesterday night, that singular act of his would have change

Chapter 27: curiosity

Chapter 27 Abigail's POV After my discussion with Gigi, I was left feeling entertained for hours. Because Gigi's funny and her high pitched voice kept on playing in my head. But she had not instructed me to be very careful and I plan on doing that. Having another Helena in my life wasn't an agenda for me. I even went ahead to tell Gigi about how Helena had been frequently visiting my mother in the hospital, and she also agreed that it was really suspicious. I just needed my mother to get through her surgery and become free from the bondage of cancer Gigi and I agreed to meet up later this week. Which was something to look forward to. The bedroom door was suddenly opened and a tired looking Logan strolled in. “Welcome back” I greeted, offering him a small smile. “Thanks, Abigail” he said as he shrugged off his suit jacket and walked towards the walk in closet. A few minutes later he came out clad in only his underwear. “What time did you get back today?” He asked as he laid

Chapter 28: Vandal

Chapter 28 Logan’s POV Few weeks later, “Quit daydreaming!” Gabe said as he swatted my back lightly, his eyes fixed on the screen as he frantically clicked the buttons on the gamepad. I fixed him with a death glare and just as I was about to question him on the reason why he swatted me, he let out a sigh of frustration and flung the gamepad. I would be surprised if it doesn’t sustain a scratch from the impact. “Nooo!” He exclaimed as he dropped the gamepad in frustration. They were playing a football video game and he happened to have lost the game. Eli, his opponent, on the other hand had a calm expression on his face and his lips twitched upwards in a slight smirk. Gabe played the game so enthusiastically and with so much energy, and it came as a surprise to me that Eli actually won the match. What an irony! “That’s unfair!” Gabe lamented, his lips downturned in a pout. “Life’s unfair” Eli said with a shrug, calmly placing the gamepad on the couch. Yes, we were in the

Chapter 29: improvement

Chapter 29 Abigail’s POV “Do you need anything else before I leave?” Logan questioned from his position across the dining table, opposite where I sat. I paused for a while, then shook my head affirming that I wouldn’t be needing anything. I took a spoonful of the scrambled eggs placed in front of me, and chewed quietly. “Good,” he said calmly. “If you eventually need something, call me or text me,” he added. I nodded with a mouthful of scrambled eggs, “sure” I said, my voice appearing muffled. Over the past few weeks, Logan had improved drastically as compared to when I initially arrived. It’s either we are beginning to get used to each other's company or he is just changing for the better. He stood up, immediately making the room appear smaller with his physique, then adjusted a small crease on his navy blue suit jacket that was tailored to perfection. “I will be on my way now. Text me when you get back from the hospital” he said. “I will.” I assured him with a nod. He picke

Chapter 30 : reality

Chapter 30Abigail’s POVI ordered a cab and in less than thirty minutes, I arrived at the villa. Immediately I got down from the cab, I brought out my phone and texted Logan, informing him that I had returned to the villa just as he requested—or more like ordered— I did before he left for work. The security guards opened the gate upon sighting me and I nodded in appreciation before strolling further into the compound. I twisted the gold rimmed handle of the glass entrance door and stepped into the sitting room. I could hear chatters coming from the direction of the kitchen, which was quite unusual given that Mrs Johnson rarely ever had a guest over or even enjoyed engaging herself in chit chats. I walked towards the kitchen in a bid to drop the lunch bag and also appreciate Mrs Johnson once more for her kind gestures. I halted in my tracks when I stepped into the kitchen and spotted Camilla trying to converse with Mrs Johnson—which looked futile as Mrs Johnson just appeared to hav
