Chapter 41

Two weeks later . . . Chelsea read the text message she had received from Derek a week ago for the tenth time. Derek: Chelsea, I know I fucked up royally. But, I’m going to move heaven and earth to prove to you how sorry I am and to become the man/husband you deserve. I love you beyond measure. Then she read the second text he had sent yesterday for the tenth time. Derek: I get it. You need your space right now. But, please, say something. Even if it’s just hi. I miss you so much and I love you – more than you know. Chelsea took a deep breath and finally texted him back. Chelsea: You think you love me because you can’t have me. Just . . . do what it is you do and I’ll do the same. Don’t worry. I’ll keep my end of the marriage agreement so you can get your inheritance when your father dies. Chelsea had no choice but to stay married to his cheating, lying ass. Catherine had her estate planni

Chapter 42

Derek and Deidre walked into Davos Nightclub. The place was pretty packed. It was located on Lexington Avenue. Derek looked around as they made their way to the bar. The DJ was hot. Derek knew the guy. He had played at The Oasis several times. The lights were dim but not too dim. You could see to get around comfortably, and the space was large. They even had an upstairs. Damn. Whoever is running this place knows what they are doing – on the surface at least. Deidre had put on a black leather bustier with spaghetti straps. She was showing a little too much cleavage for his liking, but he really couldn’t say but so much about it. She was a grown woman now. She had on skin tight, black denim pants. And her heels were at least three inches high. Her dark hair was down with small, tight curls that grazed her bare shoulder. Derek had opted to wear something subtle. He wanted to blend in. He didn’t want whoever ran the place to know

The crowd was still applauding as Chelsea and George left the stage. They walked down the short stairs to the main floor. The DJ began playing a slow song. Chelsea wasn’t sure what it was. But, she wanted to dance to it just the same. The dancefloor wasn’t far. Georgie playfully took her in his arms, making her throw her head back in laughter. She was about to wrap her wrists around his neck when all of a sudden a hand reached out to grab George’s shoulder pulling him away from her. “Hey!” George shouted. “Hey!” Derek said nastily and then he punched George in the face so hard he hit the floor. Chelsea screamed. “Derek, no!” a woman screamed. “If I ever catch you with my wife again, I’ll kill you!” Derek snarled like a wild beast as George picked himself up out the floor. Chelsea was frozen. Fear had gripped her. Derek’s face was redder than red. She had

Derek and Deidre’s parents were still up when they got home. Q had met them at the townhouse with Dr. Cleaver, the ophthalmologist that looked at Derek last time when one of Chelsea’s sisters had maced him. “So, you say that this was an accident?” Dr. Cleaver said as he examined Derek’s swollen eyes Derek could see enough to see his mother ringing her hands nervously. She was worried sick. “Um, yeah. My sister-in-law . . . a different one, sprayed me thinking I was a burglar.” “Again?” Dr. Cleaver asked as he stood up straight. He removed his loop. “Derek, I suggest you stop sneaking up on your wife’s sisters.” The look on his face said he didn’t believe a word of it. “Is he going to be all right?” his mother nearly croaked out. “Oh, yes, ma’am. I don’t see any scratches or abrasions in his eyes. His left eye got it worse than his right eye this time. And it doesn’t seem as bad this time,” Dr. Cleaver

After all the excitement over the phone, Chelsea had agreed to return to the Van Dyke estate per her parents request. “Chelsea, I can protect you better if you’re here and not at Hilltop House,” her father had said. “You can return there after your better and when that idiot husband of yours finally get the hint.” She had told her parents that George was coming to take her and Chastity home. Nevertheless, they sent Cameron and Catherine to fetch them. Constance had called while Chelsea was getting ready to leave the hospital. Chelsea had given her the go ahead to explain everything to the family; what had happened at Derek’s penthouse, etc. Catherine had asked the staff if there was another way out of the hospital. Apparently, several photographers and reporters were on the sidewalk waiting for Chelsea to come out – or to take a shot of Derek coming in. Catherine and Cameron had a quick brush with them as they were coming int

Chelsea jostled awake. The book she had been reading dangled in her hand. It was called, The Mystifying Nine Months. Constance had given it to her. Some noise had woken her up. Chelsea thought it was her imagination. She leaned back on the pillow, wondering if she should try to go back to sleep or keep reading. Then she thought she heard grunting outside. “It might be the dogs.” Tippy, the fuzzy white house cat, was quietly snoozing at the foot of the bed. It didn’t seem like she had heard a thing. Chelsea shrugged and picked up her book. She had nearly jumped out of her skin when the glass door to the balcony rattled. Her head snapped over to see it slowly opening. She shrieked. “Shh!” Derek hushed as he darted inside. “What . . . what the hell,” she chopped out breathlessly. He had nearly scared her to death. “I just needed –” There was a knock at the door.

One week later . . . Derek got his mother to call Chelsea to invite her over for Thanksgiving dinner. His mother had expressed that she was worried about her, which she really was, and wanted to see her. To everyone’s surprise, Chelsea agreed to come over for appetizers and cocktails. But she had to get back to the Van Dyke estate for dinner or her mother would be upset. “Oh, you look divine, darling,” Ms. Violet said when she greeted her in the foyer. “Just divine.” The butler took the red fox fur Chelsea worn on the way over. It revealed a lacy black cocktail dress that came to her knees. She wore flats. A long thin gold chain hung from her neck. She wore her hair up in a loose bun. “Thank you. I love your dress.” Ms. Violet wore a long sweater like dress. And her shoes were red bottom Louis Vuitton. Very stylish for a woman of her age. “Thank you, dear. Come. Everyone is so anxious to s

New Year’s Eve . . . It was two hours before opening. Customers were already lining up on the sidewalk to get in. Two hours before Derek hosted a New Year’s Eve bash at The Oasis one last time. He looked around at the dark interior of his beloved club. The security lights were on. Derek exhaled as he remembered all the good, the bad, and the extraordinary. He walked over to the bar. He had fucked a hell of a lot of ladies on top of that bar. He turned around and looked at the dance floor. He had done the electric slide, the wobble, and the cupid shuffle with his customers on it countless times. Then he looked up in the rafters. There was a great view up there. “You’ve been a good girl,” he said with a croaked smile. “But it’s time we both move on.” The sale would be final three days after the new year. Derek walked to the back of the bar and raised his hand to the switch. “All right, beautiful. Let’s do it one las
