Chapter One Hundred And Twenty

Shannon’s POVMy mouth hung in shock as I stared at Benjamin as he told me about his past. I had suspicions that he had been through a rough patch earlier in his life. I could often see the sadness deep in his eyes when he thought no one was looking but I didn’t know he had been through so much more than I had thought. He lost his parents and he was betrayed by an uncle who he had loved with his heart and a woman who was supposed to be his mate for all of eternity.I didn’t know how he came out of all of this with his kindness intact, it didn’t make any sense to me if I were in his shoes, I would’ve built walls reaching for the sky to prevent anyone from ever coming close but he had welcomed me with open arms and treated me like one of his wolves for months, providing me with everything I ever needed, making sure I or my unborn pup never lacked anything. I didn’t know many people who would do that for a stranger but I had doubted his true intentions for me because of my bad past.

One Hundred And Twenty-One

Shannon’s POV “Good morning, Shannon.” Ricky started, a broad smile on his face as he leaned against the doorpost.  “You ran off without saying goodbye yesterday at school,” Jules added. “Now, that wasn’t very polite, was it?”  “I—“ I opened my mouth to speak but Cole cut me off.  “We’re here to take you to school. You shouldn’t be seen walking down the street like some commoner, you aren’t that anymore.”  It was all happening so fast again. Yesterday wasn’t a fool’s dream. They meant

One Hundred And Twenty-Two

Shannon’s POV I felt my body tremble as Benjamin spoke, the calmness and ferocity in his voice serenading me. My fears were beginning to dissipate into thin air as he wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pulled me close. They would come calling but knowing I had Benjamin by my side gave me all the assurance I could ever need. I smiled at the first memory I had of us together. A week after I arrived, I had grown weary of being in bed all the time so I decided to take a stroll to clear my head. It was a bit confusing figuring out what stairs to take but I eventually made my way downstairs and went into the woods, seeking solace and the quiet it would bring.

Shannon’s POV “Thank you,” I whispered as we sat on one of the benches outside the house, listening to the sounds of darkness. “You took me in when you didn’t have to and you’ve made me one of yours.”  “That's all in the past now, we can only look forward to the future from now on and I want a future with you in it.” Benjamin said as he patted my thigh.  I tried to stop it but I ended up blushing as hard as I could.  I’ve always had a crush on him but it never went past that. I mean, who would want to be with me after everything I had been through?

One Hundred And Twenty-Four

Ricky’s POV It’s been five years since Shannon was sent packing after my brothers and I rejected her just before the mating ceremony in front of the whole school during our graduation party and so much has happened between that incident and now. I had believed that it would be easier to find a new mate but I couldn’t have been more wrong. We had scoured the country hoping to find the right woman to carry on the Mayert’s lineage with but our search was fruitless.  If anyone had told me that we would have difficulty finding someone to be mated to a few years ago, I would’ve laughed in their faces until my ribs hurt but it was my new reality now.  Melissa came crawl

One Hundred And Twenty-Five

Ricky’s POV I could sense some ugly news coming and I didn’t even have it in me to be angry. We had messed up greatly and despite my positive outlook, I knew that there was a possibility that we might not be able to fix the problem at hand. Five years was a long time to let things remain dormant and unless a silver lining appeared in the sky, there wasn’t much we could do as things stood. “What do you mean, father?” I asked, feeling tense as I could sense the pressure hovering above us getting heavier than it had been at the start.  “I’m not rooting for you boys to fail but in the face of impending doom, I need to have a second option to prot

Ricky’s POV I understood their hurt but it wasn’t going to change anything. Knowing our father, his plan was already set in motion. It had already been before he decided to let us in on it and there was nothing we could do about it. “We’re running out of options already,” Cole replied. “Heck, what’s left for us to do is to make it a case of national emergency asking every eligible female to come over for inspection. We can go through every one of them till we find our next mate.”  “There isn’t much time left and we all know it.” Cole said. “We need to come up with something and even if it’s the most desperate thing ever, as long as it works,

Ricky’s POV “We’re going to have to do a lot of convincing to bring her back here.”  “No shit, Sherlock.” Cole sighed. “Anything else we have to check out?” “Yes,” I replied and for the first time, I doubted if this would work.  “What’s it, Ricky? You sound worried.” Jules sounded concerned as he moved closer to me. “What are we going to tell father when he asks why she came back?”  The room

One Hundred And Twenty-Eight

Ricky’s POV One week later The news took the wind out of me and I stood in utter shock and disbelief for over an hour, trying to process what I had just heard. I was struggling to wrap my head around how it could’ve happened and I couldn’t.None of it made any sense to me.  Alpha Robin died in his sleep last night.  I shut my eyes, trying to keep the tears at bay. There was a lot of work to be done and I had to keep my grieving for a later time.  My brothers were disoriented and I couldn’t blame them. None of us had seen this coming from a mile away. The d

Ricky’s POVThey agreed with what I had just said and I knew that it was going to make this job a whole lot easier for all of us involved. “Do you think that’s all father said to them?” Jules asked as we sat at the table to decide on the next step to take. I paused for a moment, digesting his question. “I don’t think so. “Father always has a backup plan, always.” “Do you have any idea what it might be?” Cole asked. “I don’t and to be honest with you, I have no intentions of finding out. That's why it’s paramount that we make this plan worthwhile. Everything depends on it.”***Three days ago, our father had invited my brothers and me into his room. He sent away his servants and guards, he wanted to speak to us in private, and from the look on his face, I was already worried.“The doctor says he’s expecting you to make a miraculous breakthrough any moment from now and when that happens, your healing process will be sped up,” I said, trying to give him a bit of good news to cheer hi
