Chapter 20 - Pick of the Packs

Cassie - "Yes, yes, it is your lucky day Cassie, you get to choose a future pack. All three Alphas have agreed to accept both of you as soon as you are ready. Of course, I haven't told them what you are about to do. That is not my place, but all three are lovely packs with plenty of peace and friendly people. I have printed out some information on each so that you might ponder your decision. Once you have decided between you, let me know, and I will notify the packs and begin making plans, including your travel and accommodation needs." He says all this very quickly, and I will admit, it hurts a little that he seems so eager to see us gone. Something of my thoughts or feelings must show on my face, as he quickly adds, "not that I want you gone, I just want you to be free and able to begin putting this business with Ace in the past." He says kindly, and I believe him. I believe he only wants what is best for me, and I know

Chapter 21 - Nightmares

Cassie -  It is currently 1 am. I can't sleep. All kinds of different scenarios keep running through my thoughts. Thomas lay beside me, sleeping peacefully. He didn't want to leave me tonight, not after I had decided I was going to do the rejection as soon as possible. I try to think happy thoughts, to dream of the future, but always there, in the background, waiting to jump forward and consume me were the thoughts of the coming days. How will I fare? How will Ace react? I just don't know, and not knowing what is driving me up the wall, every time I close my eyes. A different scene plays out before me. Ace accepts easily, and the pain is over quickly. Ace breaks free and kills me before I finish speaking. Ace plots to have me killed whilst I am bedridden. I die from the pain, so many possible outcomes…I finally manage to drift off to sleep around 3am, but

Chapter 22 - The longest walk of my life.

Cassie -  "You got this Cassie, and I will be right here waiting for you," Thomas speaks quietly from behind me. I turn towards him slightly so I am able to see him from the corner of my eye and give him a weak smile. Then I see Alpha and Luna standing close together further down the hall, they are smiling encouragingly at me, Luna bows her head in my direction slightly, nodding her approval of my plan once more, they don't move from where they stand nor do they speak, but they don't need to, I hear their message loud and clear, they are showing me that they are also with me, just as Thomas is, my silent triangle of pillars, ready to prop me up at a moments notice, always.I knew I couldn't delay any longer so with a heavy heart, I pushed open the door to the prison and walked through into the darkness, completely alone. It i

Chapter 23 - Rejection

Cassie -  I can’t put it off any longer, he will never be remorseful, he will never regret what he has done to me. The bond will never be enough for him. So sucking in one more deep breath I finally say the words that I know, for my own sanity, I must say;"I, Cassie Laura Davis, reject you, Ace David Jackson as my mate," I say with conviction. As soon as the words pass my lips a pain rips through me, tearing a cry from me. Ace grips his chest and looks at me shocked, I can barely stay on my feet with this pain pulsing through me like a heartbeat, steady and growing in intensity.“How could you do this? You are nothing without me,” He whispers, falling to his knees."Goodbye Ace," I say, completely breathless as I stagger away from his cell,

I just can't bring myself to leave, not for training or for anything else, I'm desperate for her to open her eyes. I can't focus on anything other than her still form. Alpha understands, he sees what her condition is doing to me. Chapter 25 - Like a pup.

Thomas -  Dr Thorne and I do everything we can think of trying to convince Cassie to wake up, we cajole, we make promises, we bargain with her, just hoping she can hear us and will fight to come back to us. After her hand squeezed mine we couldn't contain our excitement, we were so close to being past this, so close. So for the next 2 days, if I wasn't with Cassie, I was packing up our things so we are ready to leave as soon as she feels up to it. I asked Luna Lily to help me by packing Cassie's more intimate items, I didn't want to invade her privacy and she also helped me by packing the toiletries Cassie would need. After we packed most of what we were going to take, Alpha arranged to have it all transported to the new pack so it would all be there waiting for us and we could travel light. I handled all of this in bursts and between those bursts I continued to sit with

Chapter 27 - Almost time

Cassie -  With the goddess’s words still ringing clear in my mind, my determination to heal and begin our journey was my top priority, for the past week I have been following Dr Thorne’s physical therapy regime to the letter, I have not deviated from it at all, I want to get better as quickly as possible. He has continued to visit daily, he says it is to check in and witness my progress, but I think there is something else that keeps bringing him back, though what that is, I am not sure. 3 days ago I actually managed to walk across the bedroom, now, don't get me wrong, I looked like a baby deer walking for the first time, but I did it, I made it all the way across. I needed to be carried back to bed that first time, but today I actually managed a very slow walk to the door and back to the bed unaided. Every little accomplishment gets me one step closer to bei

Chapter 29 - The Phone Call.

Cassie -  After we ate and watched the rest of the movie, Thomas helped me with my evening exercises, then we went to wash up, the shower groaned when it was turned on, but the water was hot and we had brought our own soaps. After being in the car for so long it felt good to be clean and to get into some fresh clothes. We repacked our bags then climbed into bed. Put another movie on and I fell asleep before the opening credits had even ended. I am suddenly woken by the shrill ringing of a phone, but in the fuzziness of waking it doesn't really register. I hear Thomas spring from his bed, which creaks at the sudden movement, and answer it. It is still dark outside and I can faintly see the moon high in the sky, through the gaudy lace hanging over the window. I'm not really listening to the conversation happening on the p
