Chapter Seventy

Gabriel "You did this?" Ken looks shocked."Why do you look so surprised?" I chuckle. "Am I not capable of kidnapping the man who tried to kill me?""I didn't think you had it in you." He rumbles."Well, I do." I grab a chair from the corner of the room, set it down in front of him and plop down on it. "Here you are, strapped to an electric chair and looking like you were beaten to an inch of your life." I turn my head to look at Rene. "Did he give you a name?""He said he'd rather die." Rene replies."Is that so?" I scoff. "Well... I can make that happen if you don't tell me what I want to know.""You don't have it in you, Cruz." He spits. "You didn't have it in you back then, and, you certainly don't have it in you now. You've always been a weakling."My gaze swivels to Rene and his partner as they simultaneously withdraw their guns from their holsters, ready to blow Ken's brain out for talking to me in such a despicable manner, but I shake my head at them and they pull back, retur

Chapter Seventy One

ArianTwo weeks later It's Kary's birthday today and I can't be happier that I'm here to witness a lovely girl like her officially turn six years old. Everywhere is abuzz with the preparations and it has been that way since the beginning of this week. Her friends from the orphanage have been invited and her friends from school as well. She's so happy, bouncing around the house like a kid high on sugar and I can't help but feel the same way too.The only thing that is putting a little damper on my mood is her father who's been absent minded of late. He's still a wonderful lover and all that, but he's always lost in thought and one would think, finding and arresting the culprit behind the shooting and the explosion at his factory would make him extremely happy. I tried wiggling information out of him through sex and every possible way I could think of but the man's mouth is shut tighter than freaking Fort Knox. He wouldn't tell me anything and it has led me to suspect that his parent

Chapter Seventy Two

Gabriel I watch as a plethora of emotions cross Arian's face as she carefully traces the words in the letter through the glass and I'm left wondering why she looks so sad. She did tell me she doesn't like sad stories but I think it's something more than she's letting on. She looks up at me with tears in her eyes and for that brief moment... I imagine her telling me that she's my Kareena. No two people can evoke such profound feelings in someone and I'd felt that way with Kareena many many years ago. Our meeting had been brief - less than one hour - but I'd known, despite being eight years old and not having any idea what love really was all about, that she was the one. "Why are you crying?" I ask her. She hands me the picture frame, wiping her tears and turning away from me. "I don't know." She sniffles. "Today is a day of emotional rollercoaster for me, I guess. I mean... Kary turned six today and... It makes me feel like she's growing up so fast." She chuckles softly. "I wasn'

Chapter Seventy Three

GabrielIt's been a month and I still can't wrap my head or my heart around the fact that Arian is just done with me. She'd tried to end our 'relationship' many times but I always seduced her out of doing it and I thought this time would be different but I was wrong.Whatever she'd dreamed about had helped solidify her into being able to resist me and she went back to calling me Mr Cruz that very same freaking day. She's still very much the same person to Kary but to me... She's now a complete stranger.I decided to get over the hurt by throwing myself into work, traveling when I don't need to, but it did not help so here I am, at the bar drinking my misery away and hoping that being dead drunk will numb the pain."Don't serve him anymore." A familiar annoyed voice speaks up beside me.I look up from my glass to the intruder through glazed eyes and my brows furrow in confusion when I see my father glaring disapprovingly down at me."Daad! You're here!" My speech is slurred but I'm sur

Chapter Seventy Four

Arian Once upon a time, I resented Lucille Kendrick Cruz because I thought she didn't value what she had and at some point, I pitied her as well, but... I never imagined that I'd be saying this to myself. I didn't value what I had until I lost it and it hurts really bad to be near him but not being able to touch him. At least, he's out of sight and probably out of mind where his wife is concerned, but I don't have that kind of luck. I get to see him everyday, sit with him at the breakfast table with his daughter, then at night during dinner as well. It's been two whole months since we had a friendly conversation and I don't know what demon possessed me to completely cut him off the way I did. I would say it's for the best because I no longer have those terrible nightmares featuring Rafael holding Gabriel at gunpoint - like he did Matteo - but the erotic dreams that have plagued me since we ended our 'thing' are much worse than the nightmares. True to his word, he treats me like o

Chapter Seventy Five

Gabriel Somehow, I can't seem to find a quiet place to talk and end up taking Arian to my bedroom upstairs. She yanks her hand from mine immediately I shut the door behind us, glaring disapprovingly at me, but I don't let her attitude bother me... Much."Really,Mr Cruz?" She spits. "Your bedroom?""Yes, really. You saw for yourself how filled up with people the house is." I retort. "No one can bother us here.""I'm not going to jump into bed with you, Mr Cruz. I'm sorely disappointed in you." She snaps."Will you stop with the Mr Cruz bullshit?!" I demand. "Calling me that doesn't change the fact that we slept together and I didn't bring you here to have sex with you.""You gave me your word." She growls."Yeah, I did give you my word." I agree. "I tried really hard not to develop feelings for you... But I failed.""I'm not listening to this right now." She whirls around and marches to the door, ready to open it to leave, but I stop her by planting one hand on the door, preventing he

Chapter Seventy Six

Gabriel "I'll go away." Lucille says. "I just came to say goodbye to you."Kary's gaze slides to mine in excitement, as if she's already guessed why her mother is saying that. "Does this mean... She won't be in our lives anymore?""Yes, baby." I nod. "We're finally getting a divorce.""Yay!" She claps her hands excitedly. "Thank you, daddy!" She wraps her small arms around my neck."I guess this is my cue to leave." Lucille's voice cracks with emotion as she finally realizes that even her daughter doesn't want her around. "Goodbye... Kareena. Can I hug you?"Kary literally recoils from her, burying her face in my neck. I stroke her back to calm her down and gesture for Lucille to leave. Thankfully, she listens to me and walks away."Is she gone?" Kary asks."Yes, baby." I reply. "You won't see her again if you don't want to.""I don't want to see her again." She reaches for Arian and I hand her over to Arian. "I love you, Arian. I want you to be my mother."Arian's wide eyed gaze sli

Chapter Seventy Seven

Arian"This is so surreal." I mutter. My head is resting on Gabriel's chest after our intense love making. It was better than the previous times. Although, it could be because we'd both gone two months without it and we'd been so starved for one another. All I know is that I'm not so sure I can say no to this man anymore."It is, isn't it?" I can hear the smile in his voice. "Being here with you, like this again. I feel like I'm dreaming.""Then, we're both having the same dream." I chuckle."I love you, Arian." He bends his head to plant a kiss on my hair. "It feels really good to let it out now.""Will you be okay with me saying I like you?" I ask in a tentative voice. "I can't go any further than that.""I'm more than okay with it." He squeezes my shoulder. "Half bread is better than nothing.""Do you think... Kary will hate me if I tell her I don't think I can be her mother? I mean, legally?" I look up at him. "What do you think?""I think she'll love you either way, Arian." He re

Chapter Seventy Eight

Lucille Gabriel has finally done it. He wants to get rid of me so he can have a good life with that bitch and my stupid daughter who wouldn't know a good mother from a bad one even if it hit her in the face. She has forgotten that it's because of me, because of my love for her father that she's alive today, but I'm going to let it slide with her because she's just a little girl.I'm sure Gabriel has been feeding her lies about me, which was the reason why she'd not wanted me at the party. One thing Gabriel Cruz doesn't know is that inasmuch as I love him, my love could easily turn to hatred and I did promise to never let him be happy with any other woman. If killing him or her would ensure the end of their budding relationship, then so be it. I'm game."Are you really letting him go?" Samantha settles down on the single wingback chair with a drink in her hand. "It's unlike you.""I'm making him think he has won, Sam." I send her a smirk. "He may win the case in court and we'll get d

Chapter Seventy Nine

Gabriel Six weeks later Walking out of the High Court with the knowledge that in a few weeks, I'll be a single guy once again has me grinning from ear to ear. The judge had listened to both sides of our story and even as Lucille had laid it thick on her tears for the judge to rule in her favor... He hadn't and had declared our marriage irretrievable, but it hadn't been his final decision and that was good enough for me. I'd wanted Arian inside the court with me but she'd refused to go in, saying it reminded her of her own divorce and I'd not pressed her. Seeing her waiting for me on the steps of the building makes me very happy and my smile widens when she looks up and sees me. "How did it go?" She asks. "I'll be a single guy in a few weeks." I reply. "I don't know why he didn't just give a decree absolute instead of a decree nisi. It's all good, though, because I have finally beaten Lucille at her own game. She won't be Mrs Cruz for much longer." "It's fast." She remarks. "Min
