Chapter 1: Plans to Visit The Human World

Lorcan JudsonThe sky has already turned into the darkest shade of black, welcoming midnight. The small stars shine like tiny diamonds, illuminating the night sky. The gentle glowing moon is the only source of light in this dark forest.I’ve been sitting comfortably on a high branch of a tree, enjoying the chilly breeze that has been grazing against my skin since a while ago. I cannot deny that leaning against the rough bark of the tree with my hand resting on the knee and the other one behind my head, is the best position to enjoy the perfect view of the dense forest. It isn’t your ordinary forest but a forest enriched with flora and fauna. That means…I can hunt my prey whenever I want. Perhaps these forests of the vampire world are the only forests that aren't tarnished by the worthless humans. Being a vampire is actually fun. Like you can see how the world is changing from the renaissance period to the present day. Since the last five hundred years, I’ve witnessed how the simple l

Chapter 2: The Newcomer

Verena Layton Ring ring…ring ring…"What the heck is wrong with this phone?!" I groan, trying to continue my sweet sleep. It has been ringing since the last minute and I'm stiff-necked enough not to get out of my blanket burrito roll and throw it god knows where so that I can continue my sweet slumber. After a few seconds, the annoying ear-piercing sound stops. I sigh in relief. Finally, it's time to continue my sweet dream that is disrupted by the stupid alarm. I’m about to drift into sleep when that damn phone starts to ring again. Fucking hell!I curse with my eyes closed. That's it! I am resolved to throw away the only source of my alarm today! This cannot keep going - either the phone will stay in my house or I’ll stay. I crawl at a languid and sluggish pace like a sloth with the blanket wrapped around me like a burrito. With my eyes still closed, I aimlessly move my hand to the adjacent table, trying to find the rectangular object. As soon as my hands trace the target object

Chapter 3: Who Is She!?

Lorcan JudsonI’m sitting in the canteen on the cornermost bench. Luckily corner benches aren’t very crowded. I keep tapping my foot with earbuds plugged into my ears.“Didn’t you socialize?” A familiar voice spoke, making me look at the owner of the voice. “Oh, Dylan.” I look at him before reaching for the earbuds to take them off.“What's up with your earbuds?” Dylan wiggles his eyebrows before pulling the chair opposite to me to take a seat. “As far as I remember you aren’t a very big fan of music.”“It's to make the girls think that I’m busy and they won’t approach me,” I reply, placing the earbuds in its case carefully so as not to damage them.Because I don’t wanna lose them and buy a new set. It's not worth investing my money anyway. “Are they after you?” Dylan wanted to know, leaning a bit forward.“Notoriously!” I shake my head. “They were sending me their phone numbers non-stop like I'm in charge of a phone booth or something.”“Here I thought I was the only one,” Dylan sc

Chapter 4: He Defends Me!?

Verena Layton “Amara, we should meet at somewhere besides the canteen,” Julia suggests. “I too think so, Amara,” I nod, taking a bite of my sandwich. “You know, Julia dislikes being in a crowd and this hour is well known for being the rush hour.”“Suggest a place where we shall meet,” Amara says, munching on her pasta.“Rooftop of the Prosthetics building will do,” Julia adds. “Hardly anyone goes there.”Amara glances at me, seeking my opinion. I nod, agreeing with Julia. To be honest, I don’t care where we have to meet. As long as we are together and can have our meals peacefully, I’m fine. “Alright then.” Amara shrugs. “Let's meet up at the rooftop of the prosthetics building. Since it's a bit away from the canteen, how about I buy lunch and bring it there since usually I’m the late one.”“I don’t think it's a bad idea,” I hum. “Let's do this. Whoever finishes their classes early will buy lunch and wait at the rooftop.”“I’m in,” Julia agrees. “It's such a pity that I cannot co

Chapter 5: Fleeing with Her

Lorcan JudsonMurmuring noises flood the canteen. Right now, everyone’s gaze is averting between the twerp and me. There is visible fear as well as excitement in their eyes. It appears like I’m an emerged hero from the depths of the ground to rescue oppressed people. I don’t know what has taken over me and now I’m standing in front of the human from whom I was thinking of keeping my distance. I just vowed to myself not to get involved with that girl and here I’m defending her. Before I could realize it, my body moved on its own and I threw myself to protect her. Thanks to that, now, I am in the center of the cafeteria with all the attention on me.The bully huffs like a crazy bull. Perhaps it's the first he has been crossed like this. I wait a moment, being patient enough to listen to him or maybe waiting for him to attack first so that I don’t have to back off. It has been a long time since I broke someone’s neck. Abruptly, the bully’s lackey appears out of nowhere and whispers int

Chapter 6: Befriending the Judson Brothers

Verena LaytonOrlo looks at Lorcan and waves his hand like an excited child, sitting on a solid concrete block on the roof floor. His other brother is sitting on another block. Amara flashes a big smile of relief, waving her hand lightly. Julia is sitting with her chin resting on her palm, looking as uninterested as Lorcan was in the medicine class. Her eyes light up as soon her gaze meets mine. “Rena!” She springs up from her seat and rushes toward me. “Is everything alright? You are fine, right?”“Yes, I am.” I smile assuringly, nodding readily. “I was so worried, thinking that Alan might have caught you,” Amara joins. “That's why I told both of you not to associate with the newcomers!” Julia whispers though it seems like it doesn’t go unheard by the Judson brothers. Eh? Where does this come from?! “Shh…Don’t say such things. Why are trying to connect the things that are nowhere near to each other?” I quickly glance at the brothers, before turning my face to her Julia. “They mi

Chapter 7: Detention At This Age?

Verena Layton “Shall we chicken out?” I whisper as I lean toward Lorcan. We have been sitting in the HOD’s office waiting for the last thirty minutes and there is no sign of her. Lady Hitler said that she had something to do and we shouldn’t leave her office unless we wanted to mess up our academic year. I know backing out at the last minute isn’t an excellent idea, given how fucked up our situation is but waiting for thirty minutes and not knowing god knows when she will arrive makes me anxious enough to churn my stomach. “If you want to be stuck in this institution for another ten years, then feel free to try your idea.” Lorcan scrolls through his phone, without caring to glance at me. This guy! Doesn’t he have even a bit, a little bit of anxiety about the outcome? Firstly, HOD won’t go easy on us, and secondly, Alan won’t spare us. Only if he doesn’t have this vampire-ish handsome face, only if I amn’t weak and obsessed with vampires, dealing with this guy will become much ea

Chapter 8: Helping Hands

Verena LaytonI drag my feet out of the building. It's such a hectic day. First, it was Alan, and now the preparation of the charts. Just thinking about hopping from department to department to collect the registers makes my introverted self hide in a small hole in the ground and never come out of it until the commotion settles. I glance at Lorcan and as usual, he seems unfazed. At this point, I’m really jealous of his calm demeanor. It's his first day and after going through such hassle, he is fine. Perhaps, I am the weak one here.Pushing out a breath, I walk with my eyes glued to the ground. “Rena!” Julia’s shrill voice forces me to lift my head. “Julie?” I frown. My frown deepens when more people come into my visual field. “Amara, Orlo, Dylan? What are you doing here? What about your classes?” I quickly pressed the power button of my phone and the screen lit up. It’s 4 pm and we have HOD’s class. I look at Julia. “Don’t tell me you skipped Ms. Petra’s class and you are planning

Chapter 9: Where is she?

Lorcan Judson “Things aren’t going as planned,” Dylan sighs, standing beside me. “Only if I wasn’t involved with that girl.” I shake my head. We reach the nearest stationary shop to buy the required materials. We have no idea what to buy. So, we order a few chart papers, colors of all kinds, glitters, glitter papers, and whatever girly stuff that artistic girls will enjoy. Orlo ditched us at the last moment. Otherwise, the three of us would have been discussing something productive. “Well, what is done cannot be undone.” Dylan shrugs. “What’s your plan?”“Haven’t thought of one yet.” I sigh again. It seems these days I’m sighing more than usual. I should take a break, maybe? Things don’t work like that for a crown prince. Ultimately, I have to find a way to finish my mission as soon as possible and report everything to the leader. “I won’t accompany you on your return,” Dylan says, slipping his hands into his pocket. “That’s better.” I nod. “You should focus on our mission.” I

Chapter 10: Is He Worried?

Verena Layton “I’ve heard you are in a messy situation,” Zale Boris says, taking a glance at me while entering the name of the book and the borrower into the computer. Lines of worry are evidently drawn on his forehead. “Is everything good now?”He has been my friend, well, a very good friend since my freshman year. Besides Julia and Amara, he is the one I trust the most. He belongs to the Prosthetics and Orthotics (PO) department - a department that’s too foreign to us. If you are wondering how I met with a guy from an alien department, it's easy. He is a part-timer in the library and as a bookworm, I always find him here. I read and borrowed so many books that he ended up talking to me. Our interests click together and we become friends. As a student from the PO department, he works a lot and hardly has time to spend with the rest of us. So, we hardly have lunch or dinner together. “A fifty-fifty situation, I would say,” I sigh, resting my elbows beside the bunch of registers that
