Chapter Eleven

The sun was setting as Marcella walked towards the bar on Tuesday evening, her heart heavy with disappointment. She had been hoping to see Professor Lucas at the bar the previous night, but he had never shown up. As she walked, her mind drifted back to their last interaction. Maybe he didn't even remember her name, let alone care about seeing her again. Marcella felt foolish for getting her hopes up, and she couldn't help but feel like she was just setting herself up for disappointment. She had thought that maybe he might come around, but now, she couldn't help but wonder if it had all been in her head.Taylor Swift's Love story was blasting off the earphones plugged into her ears and she couldn't help but wish she had her own magical love story too. But who was she kidding, she wasn't going to get a happily ever after with a Prince because she wasn't even princess material, not with her sorry excuse of a hair. She chuckled at her self deprecating thoughts as the next song came on; Ta

Marcella stared in amazement at the mirror as her once-frizzy hair had transformed into a gorgeous and lustrous mane. "Wow," she breathed, running her fingers through her newly styled hair in . "I had no idea it could look like this."Esmeralda grinned. "That's the power of good hair products and a little bit of know-how. Now, let's move on to makeup."Marcella's eyes widened. "Makeup? I don't know anything about makeup."Esmeralda chuckled. "Don't worry, I'll teach you. It's all about enhancing your natural beauty, not covering it up." She said turning her face this way and that way."You have a really pretty face already but you'd be amazed at what a little contour, some highlight and blush would do for you. I also won't cover your freckles because they make you look stunning. I wish I had freckles too." Marcella blushed at the comments which had Esmeralda chuckling good-naturedly at her.As Esmeralda brushed her face with some powder, Marcella couldn't help but admire how confident

Marcella's breath caught in her throat, and for a moment, she couldn't believe her eyes. He was here, again. In this bar.The first thought that ran through her mind was that he remembered her name. And the way he had whispered it, in that husky voice of his into her ears, had heat curling low in her belly. Even though she reasoned that it was most likely because of how loud the music in the bar was and the chatter of the patrons all around them, his voice had sounded sinfully delicious."I-I'm s-sorry Professor. I d-didn't see you there," she managed to say even though her voice came out breathlessly. "It's okay, Miss Marcella. Accidents happen. Just try to be more careful next time. As much as I want to, I might not always be around to catch you." He finished as he held her with a steady gaze.Did he just say he wanted to always be around her or was she reading too much into his words? She felt heat rise to her cheek as she practically melted on the inside, feeling giddy with joy.E

"Um-he's actually my college professor. Comes around for drinks sometimes." She tried to reply offhandedly even though her heart was already galloping in her chest at the mention of him."O-m-g girl. That's the material you guys are getting now? They didn't make them like that in my time." She gave an exaggerated shudder and dreamy sigh.Marcella chuckled at her reaction but she didn't blame her. Professor Lucas had that effect on every girl it seemed. His girlfriend or wife, if he had one, was extremely lucky. Or maybe not, because she would most likely be concerned with the amount of attention he would be getting from the female folk. Poor her."Anyways, let's go make some big tips, girl," Esmeralda exclaimed, pulling her out of the ladies' room and back into the lively atmosphere of the bar.Marcella nervously followed her colleague's lead as they made their way back through the crowded bar to table six. Table six was in the vip lounge behind a curtain and had bouncers stationed the

Big Ben was expertly placing a slice of citrus by the side of a drink she believed belonged to Mr Bolton. Tucking in a curl behind her ears, she gestured at the cup, "is it ready?" His affirmative nod had her picking up the glass and carefully placing it on a tray to go serve her customer. She also avoided looking in the direction she knew her professor currently was.Fixing the practised smile on her face, she arrived at his table, setting his drink in front of him with careful ease. "There you go," she said, trying to sound confident. "One aunt roberta, just like you ordered."It seemed he was on a call as he kept humming his reply to whoever was on the other side with a slight frown on his face. "Well I wouldn't be too worried about that. Maybe they got wasted and passed out in a dump somewhere. They'll show up soon enough," he said in reply to his caller.Esmeralda had told her to always wait behind after serving a customer to be sure they didn't need anything else and also ensu

Chapter Seventeen

“Have I ever dreamt of having sex with a wolf?” Gina asked with a bewildered look on her face.“No, I mean have you ever had... a sexual dream? You know, the kind that makes you wake up all wet and hot?” Marcella asked, keeping her focus on the laptop in front of her. They had been given an assignment to cover the coming Annual Willowdale's Founder's Day and had agreed to meet in the school library to brainstorm ideas when Marcella had blurted out her question. Which she was now ignoring because of the look Gina was currently giving her. “Well, yeah, of course I’ve had wet dreams,” she answered as she rummaged through her bag for her phone. “The first wet dream I ever got was I think in junior high.” “Really? That early?” Marcella perked up at that as she thought that maybe, she wasn't crazy. Well except for the wolf part.“Boys aren’t the only ones who get perverted thoughts, you know.” she replied with a slight smirk on her face.True, but Marcella usually kept such thoughts loc

Marcella sighed, knowing it was pointless to argue with her friend. "Alright, but can we please stick to a small budget this time?"Gina rolled her eyes. "Don't worry about it, Marcie. I'll cover us."Marcella couldn't help but feel a little guilty as they walked into the boutique. She was sure the money Gina would spend shopping would be enough to cover Nana's medication for a month. Pushing the foul thought away, she put on a cheery smile as she understood that this was her friend's way of showing she cared. They spent hours trying on outfits and taking selfies in the dressing room. Gina seemed to have an endless supply of energy, but Marcella was starting to feel exhausted."Gina, can we please take a break?" she pleaded. Bolton was seated on a metal chair which doubled as an examination table in a well-lit laboratory, his chest exposed and wearing only blank pants as strange-looking implants lay visible underneath his skin. The doctor, a tall and burly half-man, half-wolf, with thick dark fur for skin and sharp claws for fingernails moved around in his white lab coat mixing different chemicals and sniffing them, his nose twitching as he worked.Bolton had once asked him why he couldn't revert back to his human form and found out Dr Charles had been testing some drugs on himself to find a cure for the rare werewolf sickness that plagued their kind after he had lost his mate to it. He had been able to keep himself alive but had lost some of the genetic composition of his human side so he was stuck in his wereshift form. His mind drifted to a time in his life when he had almost died, if not for Dr Charles. Watching him work, he knew the man was an extremely intelligent scientist and doctor and was also a

"We can't afford slip-ups like this I'm afraid," he said casually. The other werewolves in the room shifted uncomfortably, not daring to make eye contact with him. They knew what was coming next.Within the next millisecond, he had decapitated Grant's head off his body and blood was still spraying around the table where his body still sat for a few seconds before collapsing off his chair. The rest of the pack remained silent, knowing better than to question their leader's judgement.Walking casually to the waste basket, he dropped the head into it and gave himself a reassuring smile. Useless people or things belonged in the trash."What do we do now?" another lieutenant asks as he walks back to his seat, his hands still dripping in blood. He sat down casually and leaned forward, his hands clasped in front of him. "We tighten security. We double-check everything. We can't afford any more slip-ups like this."The conversation continues as if there isn't a dead body in the room, each l
