Bolton was seated on a metal chair which doubled as an examination table in a well-lit laboratory, his chest exposed and wearing only blank pants as strange-looking implants lay visible underneath his skin. The doctor, a tall and burly half-man, half-wolf, with thick dark fur for skin and sharp claws for fingernails moved around in his white lab coat mixing different chemicals and sniffing them, his nose twitching as he worked.

Bolton had once asked him why he couldn't revert back to his human form and found out Dr Charles had been testing some drugs on himself to find a cure for the rare werewolf sickness that plagued their kind after he had lost his mate to it. He had been able to keep himself alive but had lost some of the genetic composition of his human side so he was stuck in his wereshift form.

His mind drifted to a time in his life when he had almost died, if not for Dr Charles. Watching him work, he knew the man was an extremely intelligent scientist and doctor and was also a

"We can't afford slip-ups like this I'm afraid," he said casually. The other werewolves in the room shifted uncomfortably, not daring to make eye contact with him. They knew what was coming next.Within the next millisecond, he had decapitated Grant's head off his body and blood was still spraying around the table where his body still sat for a few seconds before collapsing off his chair. The rest of the pack remained silent, knowing better than to question their leader's judgement.Walking casually to the waste basket, he dropped the head into it and gave himself a reassuring smile. Useless people or things belonged in the trash."What do we do now?" another lieutenant asks as he walks back to his seat, his hands still dripping in blood. He sat down casually and leaned forward, his hands clasped in front of him. "We tighten security. We double-check everything. We can't afford any more slip-ups like this."The conversation continues as if there isn't a dead body in the room, each l

It was the early hours of Sunday and Lucas sat quietly in his seat on the plane, staring out the window, his mind a blur of memories and emotions. He had left the Willowdale Founder's Day celebration a few hours ago and was heading to Mystic Pines, his hometown in Louisiana, to see his pack and honour them as was his tradition. It was after all, the anniversary of their deaths, of the day he let them down.As the plane began to taxi down the runway, the captain's voice crackled over the intercom breaking him out of his thoughts. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This is your captain speaking. We are currently cruising at an altitude of 36,000 feet and are on schedule to arrive in Louisiana at 5:45 AM. The current weather is clear and we should have a smooth flight. Thank you for flying with us."Lucas sighed and leaned back in his seat, closing his eyes. He knew he was going to be a wreck very soon as the pain of his loss was already feeling very fresh all over again.Suddenly, he

That was when he understood what it felt like to die and yet, he was still here. He knew the loss had broken something that couldn't be fixed inside him and he was happy to always have that gaping emptiness as a reminder of her."Hey babe," he whispered as he bent forward to give her stone a kiss and place the bouquet of flowers he brought next to it. She loved flowers."I miss you, Cassie," he said softly, his voice still barely above a whisper. "Every fucking day, I miss you. I wish you were here with me. I wish I could hold you and hear your pretty laugh again."Lucas took a deep breath, trying to compose himself as hot tears were streaming out at this point and he swore he heard the sound of his heart shattering all over again. "I know I wasn't the best mate to you, I didn't protect you like I should have. I'm so fucking sorry babe. I wish I could go back and change things, and make them right. I wish I never left you."He could clearly remember their first kiss, the first time sh

It was an early Friday morning as Marcella trudged along the sidewalk in white tees, blue jeans and sneakers, her feet aching with every step. She was exhausted from the busy week she had just had. Between her part-time job at the bar, her morning shifts at the coffee shop, and trying to keep up with her classes and take care of her Nana, she barely had any time to rest. Her only consolation was that all her hard work would soon pay off once she wrote her final exams. Her Nana would be so proud, as she had been sponsoring her education until she got into college and wasn't able to work anymore. She just had to make use of her free time wisely in order to ace her final tests and exams to maintain her perfect grades. As she made her way towards the public library, she recalled the people she had interacted with over the past few days. She had been getting along with more of the female attendants at the bar, and it made her happy to have formed some new connections. They had all accepte

She needed a missile dropped on Willowdale that second. Her rotten luck had made her pick the most perverted book she had ever heard of even though she had never read it. At that point, if it was possible to die from embarrassment, she wanted to be the first to do it.“That's uh…” Professor Lucas's brows were now pinched together as his attention remained fixated on the book. The tops of his cheeks looked like they were tinged a light shade of pink. Or maybe it was the sunlight streaming in around them through the shelves but Marcella was still too mortified to respond to him."That's an interesting choice," he finally said and she nodded along feeling stupid. Well, it was too late to back out now.Maybe if she just excused herself…"I was actually looking for a spot to read," she said while looking around for effect, "so yeah, I guess I should get going now…""There's a free chair opposite mine," he suggested, now standing straight. Marcella wasn't sure she heard him correctly and a

Lucas had felt Marcella as soon as she got into the library that Saturday morning, thanks to the growing bond between them. Resolving to avoid her as he still felt guilty about the way he had treated her earlier that week, he quickly moved his things from the second floor to the fifth floor and picked a secluded spot to continue working on the quiz he was going to give her class the next Monday. He also noticed that a certain group of teenage girls who had been on the second floor had also changed positions and followed him, not so discreetly but he chose to act oblivious to their presence, shaking his head at the thought that humans could be so superficial. His escape however was short-lived when he felt Marcella drawing closer to his location a few minutes later until he caught a faint whiff of her scent from behind him.Shit.He was going to ignore her but his wolf had been giving him a hard time all week since their last interaction. He didn't know how to let his stubborn wolf kn

As she arrived at the café, Marcella saw that there was a small line already forming outside. She rushed inside and quickly started her shift, taking orders and making the coffees as quickly as she could. It was a busy morning, and Marcella knew she didn't have a moment to spare."Good morning! What can I get for you?" Marcella greeted the first customer, a regular who always ordered a latte with extra foam."Same as usual," the customer replied, smiling."Coming right up!" Marcella quickly prepared the order and handed it over. The next set of customers were a group of teenagers who ordered different types of frappuccinos. Marcella made their drinks with a smile, enjoying their youthful exuberance. As the morning rush continued, she started to feel the pressure mounting. She was working as fast as she could, but the line just kept getting longer. Also, her coworker Ruth was yet to arrive and she felt a little irritated at her tardiness. She was working on a cup of hot coffee for a l

As they walked towards the ice cream shop later that afternoon, Gina looped her arm through Marcella's and grinned. "You look like you've had a rough day, and I've got just the thing to make you feel better then you can tell me all about it."Marcella managed a weak smile in response. She was still feeling a bit upset about not getting enough time to write way more than she could have for the quiz, and the events at work had left her feeling dejected. She had also later found out that Professor Lucas apologised to the class before the quiz for his intolerant behaviour in his last class. Apparently, there was a gift for whoever scored the highest in the quiz and she was optimistic. They entered the ice cream shop, and the sweet smell of waffle cones and freshly churned ice cream hit her nostrils. Gina led her towards the counter and told her to order whatever she wanted. Marcella felt a little better as she perused the flavours, finally settling on a small scoop of chocolate and a

"Anna," she cut in with an apologetic tone, "Are you guys in danger? I mean, with the police and all... What about Lucas?"Anna offered a reassuring smile, her eyes filled with a reassuring warmth as she seemed to understand what she couldn't say out loud. "Marcella, you needn't worry. Everything has been taken care of."Marcella couldn't help but feel more worried. If this information got out into the wrong hands, they would be hunted. "What about the bodies? Marcella slowly stirred from the depths of unconsciousness, her senses returning in fits and starts. At first, there was only a vague awareness of warmth and comfort, as if she had been cocooned in a soothing embrace. Then, as her consciousness sharpened, her eyelids fluttered as she transitioned from the depths of unconsciousness to a hazy awareness. Her surroundings felt familiar, and it took a moment for her to piece together where she was. The soft, muted light filtering into the room, the subtle hum of a ceiling fan, the comforting scent of fresh linen—all these sensory fragments coalesced into a realisation. She was in Lucas's apartment. As her vision cleared, she turned her head slightly, a dull ache thudding in her temples, and there, at her side, was Lucas his handsome face etched with worry as he sat perched on the edge of a nearby chair. Despite how much his taunts stung, he ignored them as certain pieces began to click into place. He had noticed that, despite Bolton's incredible regenerative abilities, there was a pattern to the way he protected certain parts of his body, most especially his chest. It was most likely his Achilles heel. This realization ignited a spark of hope within Lucas. With newfound determination, he charged at him and launched a series of relentless attacks aimed specifically at Bolton's chest, each strike calculated and precise. Then, it happened. Marcella, Esmeralda and the other captive women had felt the first tremor beneath their feet in their cell, a low rumble that reverberated through the concrete floor before they heard animalistic growls that grew louder. Their heads turned, their curious expressions morphing into fear as they slowly got on their feet and huddled backwards together. What kind of fighting was happening outside their cell that could cause such ground-shaking tremors? Before they could form answers to their unspoken questions, the rumbling intensified, causing the women to stumble and clutch at each other for balance. The cell's dim, harsh lighting swayed above them, casting eerie, elongated shadows on the cold, damp floor. Marcella turned to glance at Esmeralda, about to ask if this was a common occurrence but the baffled expression on her friend's gaunt face was all the answers she needed. She hadn't spent a day here but from the looks on everyone's faces, this wasn't normal at all. Then, without warni

The corridor stretched out before Anna and Lucas, a dimly lit passage that seemed to extend endlessly into the underground base. The walls looked like they were made of cold concrete, their surfaces marred with scuffs and scratches. It was a wide corridor, with three distinct pathways branching off from the central route and they had company. Very angry company. "That's her!"“That's the Shaman we've been looking–”"Get her!"Loud angry grunts and fiery growls filled the air as the rogue werewolves who were around the corridor when the main door was blasted open instantly charged at Anna. Her lips tightened into a determined line as she mentally prepared herself for the battle that was about to unfold. It seemed she had become something of a celebrity as she could see the deep malice and hatred in their gazes as they had instantly recognized her, probably from her distinct features as the ‘lady shaman who had killed their recruits.’ There was a thrill of excitement going through her

It was a sensation he had never experienced before, a deep connection that went beyond anything he had felt even with his pack. He had full trust in it because there was no time to analyse it; Marcella's life depended on it. "I can feel her," he said to Anna who had joined him in the passenger's seat, his voice filled with urgency. "She's terrified out of her mind.""Stay strong, Lucas," Anna said, her voice soft yet filled with conviction. "The bond will lead us to her. We'll bring her back home."He pressed his foot on the gas pedal, the engine roaring to life as they sped through the streets. The bond seemed to grow stronger with every passing moment, pulling him in a specific direction. It was as if Marcella's presence was imprinted on h
