Chapter Forty-One

“Alpha Oliver I am fine, I promise, there’s no reason for you to come down here.” I insisted over the phone, he and Luna Yasmin were preparing to fly to California since the weather had finally cleared up enough for flights to leave the ground.  “Our flights are booked, the Summer is expecting us so my decision is final. We will arrive tomorrow morning.” He concluded and I sighed.  “But you have a whole pack to run, it’s senseless to leave that all behind for me.” I pursed my lips feeling selfish for monopolising their time.  “The pack is more than capable of surviving a few days without us. Now, I’ve got to go or we’ll be late for our flights and maybe when we get there you can greet us with a

“I thought you left?” I said as I came to a halt beside Jasper on the front porch of the Alpha House. Jasper’s presence at the pack in the last few days had been scarce, to say the least, the lack of confidence Moon Shadowers displayed after his return was both interesting and sad to watch after all Jasper had come to mean to the pack. “Can’t say it hasn’t been tempting.” He shrugged his left shoulder. “They were hurt when you left so suddenly… We all were.” I added softly. “That’s the one thing I miss the most about living alone in the woods.” He shook his head regretfully, “Too bad the Moon Goddess couldn’t leave me alone.” He scoffed softly, the irony of his words was not lost on me. “You missed the party you know?” My jaw tensed. “Not really my scene.” Jasper looked at me for the first time sending me a tight smile. “Why haven’t you left, Jasper?” I angled my body to face him and crossed my arms over my chest, I was curious to know his answer. “Alaster Dark is still after

Chatter around the pack seemed to have perked up amongst the talk of the return of the mysterious man, I hadn’t heard his name before, but it seemed that most Moon Shadowers were very aware of who he was. “I heard his mate rejected him and when he turned feral Alpha Allison kicked him out of the pack.” One girl said as we sat in the movie room at the pack house. “Nonsense, my mum said he was rejected by his mate and Alpha Allison took away his pain.” Another argued. “How is that even possible?” A younger boy scoffed when Susie nudged me on the arm and nodded towards the door, indicating for me to follow. “What’s up?” I asked when we closed the door behind us. “Nothing, I just got tired of listening to them spout nonsense, I mean why would the Alphas ask him to come back if he was kicked out or feral for that matter?” Susie shook her head with an eye roll. “I have no idea, but something I learnt about rumours is that there’s usually a semblance of truth to them.” I shrugged, no

Chapter Forty-Four

“ My dearest Fia, There are days I awake with your laughter echoing from my dreams, days the warmth of the sun on my skin reminds me of your touch and days I long to tell you of my adventures; the one thing all those days have in common is the unique torture of being away from you. It becomes harder every day, harder to remember your smile, harder to recall the sweet sound of your voice. I miss you.  I don’t think I ever told you this, but as I trek further into the forest, hiding from rogues in trees and building fires for the warmth it’s all I think about. You were- you are my best friend, and you’ll always be.  I wonder often, what you&rsqu

Chapter Forty-Five

“We received this in the mail today.” Alpha Allison dropped the heavy envelope onto the desk we were all gathered around and by us I mean the Honour race and Christopher Butler, his purpose here- I had no idea. “Who’d like to do the honours?” Alpha Devin crossed his bulky arms over his chest. “Well, it’s addressed to someone by the name of Daisy Wild.” Maria looked at the mailing order with raised eyebrows. “From one Ca-sus… Puer.” Marcel read with confusion. “Seems to me none of you know who that is, but you’re sure it was addressed here?” “It was addressed to our post office box, it’s mostly used for business-related mail.” Alpha Allison said. “The name sounds Latin.” Maria studied the stamp once more, “There’s no return address either.” “It’s from Jasper,” I uttered, looking at my hands chuckling lightly. “How do you know?” Alpha Allison raised a curious eyebrow at me. “Casus Puer- means ‘Adventure boy’ in Latin, I used to call him that when we were kids and Daisy Wild- the

Chapter Forty-Six

I couldn’t stop laughing, Jasper was telling me a story of the time he was chased by a wild boar.  “It was terrible, Sophia, I’m a werewolf and it didn’t care! I had to climb a tree to escape the damn thing and luckily it was a strong tree cause the thing kept headbutting the tree trunk.” Jasper complained invoking yet another round of hysterical laughter. “Oh, poor thing, how long did you stay in that tree?” I teased, trying and failing to control my giggles.  “All night…” He mumbled and I smiled to myself, “don’t laugh!” He groaned through the phone.  “I can’t help it, my imagination is too vivid.” I chu

Susie and I looked at each other with wide eyes when the pack siren sounded, after I was taken, Alpha Devin had sensors put up around the pack and if someone enters the borders without permission, the siren sounded, alerting everyone.  “What do we do now?” She questioned and I jumped into action.  “Go straight home, gather everyone and lock yourselves in the bathroom,” I ordered, recalling the new safety protocol we came up with.  “Where will you go?” She inquired with a deep frown on her face.  “The assembly point. Go now, don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.” I pushed her in the direction of her house and made my way to the assembly poi

“That’s preposterous, I won’t allow it, no way in hell!” Alpha Devin brought his fist down hard on the desk and I flinched as the table vibrated under the pressure. Despite being as shocked as he was by Jasper’s suggestion, I could see the logic behind it. Alpha Allison glanced at her mate and sighed, “Jasper, what you’re asking… It isn’t a night out at the movies, you’d be putting yourselves in real danger.” She emphasized the last part and she wasn’t wrong, what he was suggesting was a suicide mission with all the men Dark has searching for the talisman, but if we succeeded that would mean we would finally have the upper hand on that psychopath. “Alpha Allison,” I sighed and glanced at her mate who was glaring intently at Jasper, “what Jasper’s suggesting is crazy, I agree, but think about if we find the talisman. We can’t let something that powerful fall into the hands of a murderous psychopath like Alaster dark.” I glanced at Jasper from the corner of my eye. “I’m going wit

The museum was virtually empty for a Wednesday morning, apart from the few lurking employees and the primary school tour group that followed the museum guide around, we were the only other people scuffing up the polished floors. “According to my research, the moonstone was displayed here,” Jasper announced as he led us into a room filled with gemstones on display. “It was the centrepiece at the event.” We lingered around the room looking for nothing in particular. “Where do we even start?” I blew out a frustrated breath, nothing in this place looked like it held any traces of something that happened twenty years ago.  The large display case that stood front and centre was empty which made Jasper’s inspection look completely out

Chapter Fifty

AMIDST THE SHADOWS OF NATURE, AT THE CENTRE OF THE LOTUS, LIES THE LIGHT OF THE SEEKER Did the clue refer to the Moonstone? The Curator did say the stone was luminous. “Do you think it will be that easy? We find this lotus in the shadows of nature and there’s the Moonstone?” I frowned, looking at the tiny board we took from the museum, clearly, no one would miss it if they never found it before. “Something tells me it isn’t going to be that straightforward. Whoever stole the stone clearly went through a lot to make sure it remains lost in time, but to leave clues behind? They definitely want someone to come to find it.” Jasper answered from his seat beside me on the train. FLOWER, EXISTS THE LIGHT OF THE SEEKER. The words echoed in my head aimlessly, I had no idea what a lotus flower even looked like nor what the shadows of nature entailed. “If you think any harder your hair might catch fire.” Jasper’s teasing voice sounded behind me as he stepped onto the tiny balcony. Our chos
