Chapter Twenty-One

“Check this out.” Jasper turned the laptop screen to face us as we gathered around, “It’s a story of Greek mythology on how werewolves were created.” “The first Lycan wolf was created by Zeus, the Greek God as a punishment for committing murder and placed on a deserted island where he was cursed to live a life of solitude and suffering for eternity.” Alpha Allison read aloud the part that Jasper highlighted and looked at us. “That’s all it says?” I wondered, confused by how an entire race came to be of a single Lycan. “Yeah it tells a brief story of what he did and what his life on the island meant, but nothing beyond that.” Jasper turned the screen back to himself. “I never knew that, but that’s interesting because when I was doing research on black wolves years ago, I found that Zeus was the one who spilt the souls of the original werewolves since their power threatened to conquer the Gods’ rule.” That left even more of our questions unanswered. “Do you think any of that’s

Chapter Twenty-Two

I awoke with a start, my chest rising and falling rapidly as images flashed in my head. My hands were trembling when I reached for my sketchbook causing me to drop my phone which was on the nightstand, but I paid it no mind as I threw open the book to the first clean page.  The pencil moved quickly and fluidly across the page and even in the dark, I could see the image of the woman becoming clearer on the page. It was by far one of the most detailed drawings I’ve ever done of a person I’ve never seen or met before.  “Sophia, is everything okay?” Alpha Allison barged into the room and scanned the space like she was checking for intruders.  “I’m fine, sorry I woke you.” I apologised, not taking my eyes off the page in fr

Chapter Twenty-Three

I walked out of school with a spring in my step, it was the first day of summer vacation and I couldn’t wait, my plans for the summer included training every day and improving my wolf’s combat skills.  “You look excited.” Beta Jacob smirked as I approached him, ever since we found out the attack wasn’t random, Alpha Devin insisted he walks me home from school and much to my surprise, I found myself enjoying his company.  “It’s the last day of school, what’s there not to be excited about?” I chirped, falling into step with him.  Beta Jacob laughed, throwing his head back, “I loved school, I wish I could go back.” He pointed out.  &l

Chapter Twenty-Four

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Alpha Allison asked, stopping me before I could walk through the boarding gate.  “I have to go back and see this through. I promise I’ll be okay.” I assured her, glancing at the two men who stood stiffly behind me.  “Let me know if they give you any trouble and I’ll get Oliver to deal with them.” She threw a glare at both of them and I chuckled, gathering her in my arms.  “Thank you for everything,” I whispered, inhaling her calming scent.  “Take care of yourself, okay?” She frowned deeply, clearly fighting an internal battle.

Chapter Twenty-Five

The afternoon was drawing late, I knew sunset would be soon, but being back at the place I once called home brought back a feeling of nostalgia. The house before me looked exactly as I remembered it, the peach paint on the walls was peeling and the white bannisters looked like they had seen better days, but when I looked on at the building, all I saw were the happy memories. Continuing on my path, I made my way to a familiar place, a place between the trees filled with love and wild daisies. I perched myself on the rock I used to spend hours on, it seemed smaller than before and a tad less comfortable, but the peace remained. “Got space for one more?” I gasped when I saw the man standing beyond the treeline, the sun caught his ginger hair making it glitter. “Depends who’s asking.” I turned away from him, my lips setting into a tight line. “Jas… Your Jas.” Jasper’s whisper made a shiver run down my spine and my fists balled at my sides. “What do you want, Jasper?” My hea

Chapter Twenty-Six

“Wait, you’re telling me that Jasper- Jasper Queen who fell out of the sky, is actually the son of the late Alpha and Luna Atwater who was killed in the packhouse fire four years ago?” Alpha Allison clarified when I told her the story and Beta Jacob nodded.  “We were just as surprised, but it explains why he doesn’t smell like a typical rogue.” Beta Jacob pointed out.  “I just thought he took a scent neutralizer to protect himself from other rogues.” Alpha Devin shrugged.  When we arrived back at the Shadow Moon pack with Maria in tow, Jasper promptly disappeared, leaving Beta Jacob and me to explain what transpired to the Alphas.  “Why did he

Chapter Twenty-Seven

“It’s a Vulture Talon,” Jasper stated, studying the claw with a frown. It was the first we saw of him since returning from Wales and his demeanour was colder than usual.  Both Alphas along with their Betas and Theta were gathered in the office alongside the newly formed “Honour Race”, none of us had any idea what the message meant, but two things we could agree on was that we were under attack and that I was their primary target. “It says here that vultures signify death and danger.” Marcel turned the phone screen to face us with a deep frown.  “So what, they’re sending a message that they’re going to kill me?” my jaw clenched, I hated this.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

“Well, well, well, if it isn’t the Moon Goddess. The creator of the werewolves.” The stocky man chuckled darkly, “I must say I expected more.” He sneered, the scar across his right eye crinkling as he did so.  I looked around the darkened room for an indication of where I was, but all I could see from the position tied to a metal chair was the lightbulb that hung from a crossbeam.  The way the man’s voice echoed indicated that we were in a large metal space, but his careless echoes meant we were far away enough from civilization for him to care about getting caught.  I searched my memory for any idea of how I got there, but the last thing

Chapter Twenty-Nine

I’d lost count of the number of people who asked me where Jasper was, In the weeks he spent here it became evident to the pack that there was something between us and their curiosity was naturally voiced when I was spotted without him.  Many pack members including the Alphas were angry that he’d left without saying goodbye and even more upset that I refused to reveal his reason for leaving. Truthfully I was mad at myself, sure I’d gotten what I wanted, I didn’t want him to stay knowing that he didn’t want to, but I was mad at myself for hoping he would choose me over his secrets for once.  “He’ll be back.” Maria assured me but I refused to let her words get my hopes up. Jasper was a man who moved to the beat of his own drum, he always has and once he had his mind set on someth

Chapter Thirty

The crescent moon was high in the sky and surrounded by millions of tiny stars. The night was as picturesque as they came and I could feel the night calling to me. Selene was restless in my mind and was pushing to be let out, but I hadn’t shifted since that night with Jasper. Suddenly a shooting star crossed my vision and I found myself mesmerised by the way the sky lit up. I didn’t feel my body moving till my feet hit the cold floor, but I was useless to stop it, my body seemed to have a mind of its own and I watched with excitement brimming through my veins as I exited the house. The chill of the night air made me shiver with excitement and like I’d been doing it for years without effort, I felt my body shift and the crisp white fur of my wolf take its place on my skin. I felt alive. The night sky was more vivid and beautiful than I’d ever seen before, the thin blades of grass tickled the spaces between my toes as I grew accustomed to the feeling of my wolfy muscles. “Are y
