The pack house is a mess, but it would have to wait for now. I am already running late for patrol and I can’t afford another mark against my name. Not if I want to keep my title of gamma. I grab my satchel and check I’ve at least got a protein bar to have for a snack when the door slams shut behind me. “Rylie.” My whole body can’t decide whether to freeze or melt at the sound of my name on his lips. “Hunter,” I reply, rolling my eyes as I turn around to face my alpha. I let my gaze roam up his broad chest until our eyes lock, and every ounce of reasoning leaves my mind as I lose myself in the icy-blue eyes of the alpha. A smirk haunts his lips, a hint of a shadow covering his hard jaw. In two strides he stands before me. I barely reach his shoulder, but I refuse to let him intimidate me. One of us has to keep an ounce of self-control. “You seem tense, Rylie,” Hunter comments. “I’m late for patrol,” I mutter, scanning the empty pack house around me. Everyone else

My elbow was instantly in the rogue’s ribs and he doubles over, coughing. “Get the others!” I order Val as I take another swing at the fallen male on the ground – smashing the base of my gun into his head and knocking him out cold. “You’ve picked the wrong day to mess with me,” I growl under my breath as I shoulder my gun and aim for the shelter of the trees.“Rylie, on your left!” I hear Val shout.I duck, spin on my heels and fire off to my left and the rogue is down in an instant. I can’t help but smile to myself. “Val, we need to move out!” I yell, climbing to my feet and breaking into a run.I’m surrounded in an instant, a rogue on either side of me. I can’t see Val in my peripheral vision, but pray she’s following behind me. I go to aim to my right, the rogue’s gun instantly mirroring mine. But instead of pulling the trigger, I duck and the bullet meant for my chest embeds itself in the rogue to my left. The other is down before it has a chance to realise its mistake.

You feel it in your veins, with each beat of your heart. And it hurts like hell. My heart feels as if it’s being pulled from my chest, my lungs burning with each breath I take. Not when one of my own is in pain and needs my help. I could never live with the guilt if I left them out here to die. But the air is growing cold. I shiver, goosebumps littering my flesh. I’m not sure what I plan to do when I find whoever is injured. With nothing but a knife and my bow, I’m almost as helpless, but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. I cannot be the one to bring death to the pack for my own recklessness. We knew the threat of the rogues was in the

"My instincts are usually good.”Tomasina studies me. "I'll say. You're one of the best gammas out there."I chew, putting all my focus on the food rather than the burning questions in my friend's eyes."Did Hunter flip?" she asks."Of course.""What did you tell him."I stare at the ceiling. They are not going to drop this, are they?"I apologized.""And he bought it?"
