It was pure luck I avoided the castle. I knew it would happen eventually, but I wasn’t quite brave enough or confident enough in my anonymity here to risk that just yet. If I could make it a few days with no one recognizing me, then I’d feel better about putting my neck out like that. I kicked myself for not going with a more dramatic dye job or plastic surgery or something before coming here. I had been brash, jumping in with both feet before I truly thought things through. Isaac had continued on to the castle, but Kaleb and Bram had followed me back to the hotel. They explained away walking with me by claiming we were just going to the same place, but I had a feeling I had guards. It didn’t shock me. Wolves followed instinct. The same instinct that told them to be cautious of rogues was the one that implored them to protect the weakest links. Women, children, and elderly for starters, but runts were infamous for becoming the focus of a pack’s protection. Even if they hated a r

I had determined it was a wolf, and with my newfound knowledge of identifying them, a lycan at that. This time, though, the beast was frantic. It paced anxiously around the clearing as I settled into the meadow, and the second I had succumbed to my wild within, its eyes were on me. Mate. This was a figment of my imagination; it couldn’t be real. No matter what Bram said about lycans being able to find mates, I refused to believe it. This was just some fever dream of a lust driven girl. Maybe I had caught sight of Isaac’s eyes when he saved me that night after leaving Djinn and Juice and I had just replicated them in my dream the first time I dreamed up these eyes. The second I thought that name, though, the wolf hidden by the shadows took a step forward, allowing me to get just a glimpse for the first time. Mate. The shadows traveled with it, continuing to shroud it from my sight. No, it was black. Pure, pitch black. And huge. And mine. The wolf before me was much large

I pounded on Blair’s door incessantly. She wasn’t particularly good at decrypting prophecies, but she was a far cry better than me, and she would at least not have the personal attachment to it. She took forever to get to the door, and I was about to break it down when it finally swung open. “Oh, it’s you,” she sighed, letting me in. “I thought you were over at the kingdom?” “Not the concern right now, Blair,” I snapped. I slammed the book on the kitchen counter, open to the page that had my prophecy. “What is this?” She sauntered over and took a glance at the page. “Oh, that. That’s the story of how you supposedly destroy the world.” I motioned emphatically for her to continue. Blair sighed and sat down, writing out the prophecy. “There’s a lot of speculation about it,” she told me, “and I am on the side of it’s not a bad prophecy.” She turned away, heading to the kitchen to make a pot of tea. I was sure it would be laced with something to keep me from freaking out too much,

Isaac POV Bram and I had joined Kaleb and Rudi in their suite for the evening. It was not my first choice of places to be, but Maise had not answered when I knocked at her door, the same as the night previous. I glared down at the last can of a local beer I had and the unopened envelope that had been shoved underneath my door when I returned from another meeting with the Alpha King earlier today. I had a sneaking suspicion the girl was right, and that king of hers would be absolutely no help. The first time I sat down with him was more of a social visit, to alert him that lycans were here. It was not a necessity by any means, but he perceived it as the warning that it was. He was being watched. Today, however, I attempted to start in on discussions. Emphasis on attempted. The last surviving Ambrose was one of few werewolves who recognized just how much lycans still had their hands in werewolf law and life. Prior to this visit, our last conversation had been when I caught wind of

I hadn’t had it in me to go to Djinn and Juice tonight. I was a busy girl, so I could take a night off. It’s not like it would actually impact my client list, anyway. So, I was curled up with a book again, but a totally different book. A dirty book. Leah was out, working a late shift, so wouldn’t be back until the early hours of the morning. So, I was curled up with a cheesy romance that portrayed mate stricken werewolves in the wrong light, and it was just getting to the good part. The thrum through my chest could have been perceived as anticipation, but the way it festered could not be written off as such. I swallowed hard, trying to choke down the heartburn that refused to subside. The thing that sent me rolling off the couch and to my knees, though, was a sharp, stabbing feeling in my stomach. I massaged it, trying to soothe the pain, but it was no use. I felt like I was burning from the inside out, so I struggled to stand, stripping off every layer I had on as I stumbled t

That four letter word that came to me in a dream about golden eyes kept running through my head. I had to wonder if I had manifested the feeling, or if it was something my subconscious was trying to push through, past all my preconceived notions of it. A lust driven early twenties girl was the more logical answer, but something just screamed this was more. I hated to even think it, but I kind of wanted it to be true. Isaac was true to his word. So long as I kept my hands still, he was a perfect gentleman. The kisses proceeding were chaste, reverent. His hands didn’t wander, but his arms kept me caged in. The way he fisted the sheets showed just how hard he was working to rein himself in. The second my hands wandered, though, the sugary sweetness dissolved in the heat, a warning of just what he wanted. It was only when I had pushed a boundary he had put in place for me one too many times that he tucked me into him, my back to his chest. It took several minutes before breathing was abl

We walked in silence, taking the back way to her house. I knocked on her door, waiting patiently. Isaac still had a firm hold on my waist, and I had given up trying to struggle out of it. Blair was the only one who could logic this for me. Isaac being my mate made the whole mood flip flopping make sense, but I couldn’t rid the feeling of being violated twenty-three years ago. I didn’t know much about bonds, as I had always been told I wouldn’t have a mate. Sure, I knew they kicked in as soon as you locked eyes with your mate - no matter the age - but I had never spent much time thinking about what would happen if you were a child when you found them. Blair had done extensive research on bonds in different species, so she would have an answer. That, and I desperately needed to freak out, far away from the apartment, as Leah would be getting home soon. The door swung open, and Blair’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. Immediately, she bowed her head and opened the door wider to l

Isaac POV A touch to Maise’s forehead, and she sunk into a magic induced sleep, giving the witch and I the ability to talk freely. “You know what this means, right?” my mate’s friend asked. I nodded solemnly. I knew extremely well.“How did you realize she was the Princess, anyway?” I thought for a moment, hesitating to answer. Trusting the witch was an act of necessity. Maise saw her fit to harbor all her secrets - willingly or otherwise - so I had to hope she would stand by what was best for her friend, and the best of her kind as well as mine. If our theories were correct, and she was the woman the Unity Prophecy spoke of, she could not know of the bond, not yet. There was nothing the witch could do to go through and nitpick out all of Maise’s suspicions, but she could remove the confirmation that it was there. “I think I always knew, but denied it,” I finally admitted. “Her new look and new attitude had me fooled for a time or two, but when her soul called to me… my obsessio

I was being rocked. Lulled gently. I wanted to let it sweep me back to sleep, but the sensation wasn’t what I was expecting upon waking me up, dragging me out of the depths of my peaceful slumber. The wolf had been there again, but it was only a presence, a sensation. No eyes, no form. Just a protector, letting me rest. I peeled my eyes open, no longer able to fight the curiosity in favor of sleep. I was in a car. A fancy car, with a cushioned headrest and heated seats and appropriate leg space. I looked out, seeing the unfamiliar snow covered scenery flashing by around me and realized it was a large car - an SUV or truck. I rolled my head to the left in an attempt to identify my captor. I wish I could say I was surprised it was the lycan. “Where are we going?” I mumbled. Isaac glanced over to me with a guarded expression. “The lycan pack,” he said cautiously. “You don’t remember? You agreed to come with me, help work on the case to free you.” I hummed, trying to remember l

Warmth seeped into me, a stinging juxtaposition to the sharp cold that licked against my skin. I knew who was carrying me, and I cuddled into him for warmth. I cracked my eyes open, seeing an open sky with the moon and stars blinking down at me. “What time is it?” I mumbled, catching sight of trees as I craned my head around. Isaac’s arms tightened around me. “Almost midnight, Princess. We’ll be inside in a second.” I hummed, acknowledging that I heard him. I had questions for him, and I hoped he would stay awake long enough to answer them. Driving was exhausting, but I didn’t particularly care. If he was going to drag me to another country for something I had no memory of agreeing to, he was going to fight his exhaustion to explain it all to me. Just inside the door, he set me on my feet. I looked around cautiously. “This isn’t the castle I thought you lived in.” Isaac snickered at my comment. “We don’t have a castle here. It would stand out too much.” “But it’s not even big
